Anybody got any decent traces from a high-quality VIII? (well, or any
high-quality rowing at all I suppose) I'd like to compare it to ours
(reasonable quality, will churn along at 2:00 at 20 ish).

Here's the trace (Samsung Galaxy Y, many thanks to Tal for making
Talos work on the low-grade screen of this phone):

And here's a fragment, annotated:

Outlined in yellow is a pile of stuff that shouldn't be there as we
finish / hands-away / rockover not quite in sync. Arrowed in pink is
either a slackening of the power mid-stroke, or possibly just the
phone moving slightly - its only velcroed down. That's why I'd like to
see some other people's traces.

Hi William,

have you had a look at the "Rowig Faster" book? There is a chapter on
analysis. It contains acceleration graphs for different parts of the
boat. There also is a paper by one of the co-authors of the book where
he goes into even more detail:

http://www.coachesinfo.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10138:temporalanalysisofstrokesycleinrowing&catid=107:rowing-general-articles&Itemid=207

Hope this help,
Michael

Here's one of a quad row from a while back.

I haven't tried to analyze it so I'd be interested to know what you think.

Dropbox tells me: "nothing here. The file you are looking for has been deleted or moved". Is it non-public, perhaps?

Thanks for that. You have less noise on your trace than us, so you must be smoother :-). I'm still not sure how to interpret these, but it looks to me as though your peak power is shifted towards the finish, whereas ours is more at the catch / through the stroke. It also looks like your decceleration just before the catch peaks (relative to your max power) higher than ours, which might be bad.

ps: MH: thanks for the coachesinfo link, that was instructive too.
