Tall Memories

Talk about your blast from the past! I was visiting my "cousins" just
yesterday - Roberta (Agatstein-Steele), David, and "Aunt" Belle, in
Stuart, Florida. I hadn't seen them in many years and Tall Timbers came
up.
While I was not a regular at TT, my parents, Shirley and Sandy Guth,
along with my brothers Steven and Mitchell, and my mothers' sisters'
family, The Solomons - David, Judy (parents), Nancy, Bobby, Gary, and
Michelle, were. My memories, however, even at 3 to 5 years old are
still very clear and strong:

I too, can hear Uncle Mel close the day with Day is Done, Taps, and
"Tall Timmm berrr - walk, walk, walk". I remember the Marders, and
Geisha, as well as color wars, carnivals, the ride up to Lake Mohegan
in the summer (to visit my cousins The Agatsteins and the Solomons),
and once staying in a bungalow next to the Casino. I remember an
eclipse and being warned not to look at the sun. (you'll go blind!).
There was a handball court, and hideouts, and the sound of swinging
screened doors banging, as well as a large pool where I learned how to
jump into the water and swim. I had a chance to learn and recite the
prayer for wine on a Friday service. I remember some of the songs from
the shows mostly because us kids would play them over and over during
the course of the year (and make up a few of our own). I remember
Roberta as a counselor, and going up to the "hang out" (where the older
kids and counselors were able to listen to music), leeches from a
treasure hunt, and myself in a Playboy bunny costume (I was 4 years
old), Aunt Judy still has that picture and a few thousand more.

My mother and I recently "walked through" the website and she was all
excited. Now, if I could get the rest of the family to take a peek ...
that would be fun! ...

Thank you Demian and everyone who has written in, I laughed and cried,
and remembered things looong forgotten...
My heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your father, but rejoice as his
legacy lives on in all his "children" -

(I will try to get my large extended family to write) Presently, I live
in Ridgewood, NJ with my husband Jaymes, and daughter Audrey. My
parents are in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Hello Karen:
This is Jon Broz. I enjoyed reading about your TT memories.
I have a memory of your dad Sandy riding his Norton motorcyle on Union
Road in Spring Valley. I had just missed the bus to Spring Valley
Senior High School and he gave me a lift. I live in New City, NY with
my wife Roberta and have two grown children. My daughter is a fashion
designer and my son will be attending law school in September.
My sister, Linda Shaw lives in Wellington, Fl. with her husband and two
children and my mom Milly lives in West Palm Beach. My dad, Irving
passed away three years ago. Please send my best to your parents.

Hello Jon,

I'm so happy to hear from you and know my parents will be too. I am currently in Ridgewood, NJ with my husband and daughter. I flew home from Ft. Lauderdale yesterday. Mom (and Dad) were talking about you when I brought up the sight and we were reminiscing while looking over the pictures. Dad remembered the motorcycle ride, and I am sure he'll be thrilled to know you did too!

I am trying to get a teaching position in Fl. (we have some property in The Acreage off of Seminle Pratt Whitney, near Wellington).

I don't know if you knew about my brother Mitch passing away? My brother Steve is married and lives in Michigan with his wife Gail, and two daughters, Hannah, and Alana (11 and 10).

I was sorry to hear that Mitch passed away many years ago.
My sister Linda (Shaw) has lived in Wellinton for 18 years. My mom
lived in Wellington for many years and moved to the next town
(Greenacres) after my father passed away.
Mom has been teaching in the health department at Palm Beach Community
College for the past 15 years. Her house in Wellington was too big for
one person. Her new house is smaller and in a gated community which
made Linda and me feel more comfortable.
Linda may be able to give you some advice about the Wellinton area as
they have lived there for years and know so many people. Her address is

Dear Jon,

Great to hear from you. I was suprised to get emails from others, and
even more delighted to find my cousins response. I heard from Bobby,
and my brother Steve, too, but I don't know if they got to respond
online or directly. Anyhow, I am no longer in Florida, and probably
won't get a teaching position there, however, if you think it's ok to
contact Linda, or your Mom - I would at a later date. Perhaps when I
return (next year?), I can visit - maybe with my folks? Thanks though
for the encouragement!
