Hello supporters of Talking Radical,
In my latest interview about learning in, from, and for
social movements, I talk with Vancouver-based organizer Melanie
Andita. She talks about organizing in the tenant
and drug user movements, and about learning from popular
education, revolutionary struggles in the Global South, and the
labour movement.
I'd also encourage all of you, but particularly those of you based
in Nova Scotia, to check
out this post from Fernwood Publishing. Independent
publishing in Canada cannot survive without public support, but
the NS government's proposed budget will enact major austerity
measures that would include eradicating provincial support for
publishers based in the province. That includes Fernwood. They
offer actions that locals can participate in to oppose the budget,
and they also have suggestions for how those of us who live
elsewhere in the country can act in support. I've published all
three of my books with Fernwood so I'm a bit biased, but I think
they are a crucial resource for people who think critically about
the world and who want to change it for the better, so I urge all
of you to do whatever you can.
