Hello all,
So, I updated my iPad Pro to iPad OS 14, I went to open the books app to read a book using VO and the strangest thing happened. VO skips every other page. Example, I'm on page 22 of a book, the next page is 24 it skips 23. Has anyone else had this issue? This just started happening after the update. I don't know if maybe a setting was changed or what, but I love my books and can't read them with every other page missing. I thought it might be the particular book, but it is in every book I try. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Jeff

Hi

When I first saw this, I thought it just might have been the book, because I’ve had problems before with poorly formatted books, however, you have tried it on more than one, so that’s not the problem.

I did not get the same thing happening on a book on my iPad, but I then tried it on my iPhone and it’s doing what you describe.

I fear we have an email to Apple Accessibility coming on. I’ll certainly write to them. If anyone else is experiencing this, would you please consider emailing too?

Best

Adrienne

That would be awesome if you could do that. What is the email to Apple accessibility so that I can also write to them. I’ve never reported a bug so I’m not really sure how this works but if you give me the email address I will get on that as soon as possible like today.

Hi Jeff and Adrian:
I’m dictating here so pardon any misspellings. Just a note if anybody has issues like this, the more emails they get the more likely they are to take something seriously. Please write to Apple Accessibility about your issue with reading books. I have seen this on other lists as well. Thanks, :-) everybody stay well.

Yeah, what she said.

Email address is: access...@apple.com

They always want to know the type of device, the model and also the operating system you are running. In this case, it could be useful also to tell them which books you’ve been having the problems with.

Cheers

Adrienne

Question. Does this issue is the same in other text or books you read like for example in Books, or any of the Bookshare books you read in the various apps it be read on? I wonder the issue is BARD, or it is ust the reading itself?

I used to find issues with this occasionally on PDF readers when the view was set to side by side. Does changing from portrait to landscape or vice-versa still have this happening?
Best wishes,

Every way I do it seems like the issue was still there. Even after the latest software update of 14.0.1 it’s still the same. I thought it had corrected itself but it seems like it has not. We need to keep reporting this because it just keeps happening and it’s not good because I actually use the books app to read a few books that I have to use for work.

According to what I’ve been reading, 14 is just plain full of bugs. Rather disappointing don’t you think?

That is really sad. That’s far thank goodness, this is the only one that I have personally found. All of the things that I do on my devices so far seem to work which is good except for this thing with books. I really thought that this past week when the new software came out that is to say 14.0.1 that would fix it but I guess we just have to wait. I am going to send another email just to keep it on their radar. If you all  could do the same that would be awesome. We will get this taken care of.

Hi there

I haven’t found many either. I hadn’t even noticed the books one until you pointed it out.
I really only experienced a little bit of difficulty with focus, but I found that switching to containers sorted that.
