Hi Everyone:
Well, I bit the bullet and got an iPhone SE, second generation. The phone is fine, and it seems slightly faster, slightly better on battery usage. It also has brought the home button back, which is a pleasant surprise.
It is interesting to set up, and that process took quite a bit of time, as screen sensitivity is more than I’ve been used to. Probably an issue with the iPhone 8 I had.
I want to share a couple of concerns regarding a couple of different areas.
First of all, Apple is getting very squirrely about Apple ID’s. Since i updated to IOS14.5 there’s apparently no more skipping the pass code. I’ve found fingerprint ID the same, typically not working well. I got myself locked out of my account because of not remembering my password. They have it locked up until June 5th, which I think is ridiculous and excessively crappy. And they say support can not fix it. So, I’m pretty unhappy with this seemingly socialist approach to my “service.”
Now for my second concern which is strictly US related:
Under the National Deafblind Equipment Distribution Program, I received an iPhone 8. It states at the beginning of settings that the phone is supervised by a company called Teltech. It directs one to a section called Profile for further information. Figuring I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it anyhow, I ignored that section.
But, last week, with nothing to do, I explored my phone thoroughly, including profile. It turns out that there are 4 entities logging on at any point to monitor my usage.
I have nothing in particular to hide. But, that also seems overly excessive. It also points toward the give and take of our government that we aren’t often aware of. It goes like this: “We take care of you, giving you an iPhone, covering Applecare etc. In return, we monitor where you go, who you talk to, what you do, where you surf, etc...
Sorry to rant. But, this brings to mind the old Big Brother is watching.
I just want people to be aware of such things when you get something from the government here in the good old USA.
Also, IOS14.5 also contains Covid-19 tracking software. I was able to turn off some. But, from what I’ve read, it is built-into the program.
Ok, Not running paranoyed here. Just reporting things as I observe them.
Also, I don’t want to start trouble either. These things just seem strange to me.
Thanks for reading.
Best,
Carolyn Sent from iCarolyn’s iPhone SE

Good afternoon Carolyn, Profiles are a part of how company devices are managed, they can allow installation of additional software manage settings remotly and remotly Inincluding requiring passcode like on your system erase your device. I don't think there is a lot of snooping that can be done with thenmother but I have not read all there is to profiles. I would not expect that this is the Federal Goverment but rather your state that is managing your system.
Good Luck, Jonathan

Hi Jonathon:
Thanks! Yes, it is the state. But, it gets its authorization from the federal program. I get it, that there has to be some control, or people would be selling their free equipment and all sorts of naughtiness. But, to see 4 different websites in there, including one using GoDady just seems a little overzealous.
Anyhow, at least I’m not using that phone anymore. And, I can’t erase it because Apple has my passwords locked up. I usually write them down. But, failed miserably with the most recent. Then they also have me under two differing Apple ID’s, which is how the whole password thing got balled up.
Guess I need to be busier to not worry about such things. <grin>
