I believe that most people who really want to drink do it anyway and a lot of them are not even 21 yet. I think the age for drinking should be legally changed to 18. We can do almost anything at age 18 except drink. This will solve issues for under age drinking and young people would not have to hide it anymore. This should be changed however, young people who will do it need to be responsible with it and not abuse it.

I agree. I think if you are old enough to vote and old enough to be drafted during a war then your old enough to drink alcohol.  Many countries in Europe don't have a drinking age and there doesn't seem to be a huge problem with teenage drinking.  I think it set kids up for trouble when they enter into college.  The often binge drink and get themselves into trouble due to a lack of experience or supervision.  Wouldn't it be better to be raised in an environment where drinking was nothing special and you learned how to be responsible with it through your teen years rather than a crash course in college?

I agree with the caveat that members of the military can drink at 21.  I think if you are willing to enlist for your country and put your life on the line then have a beer.  I'm 24, I used to say how stupid it was that I couldn't drink at 18 but honestly I don't think 18 year olds can handle that freedom.  I abused it a little when it wasn't even legal for me to be doing and know many of my friends did as well.  I also know a good amount of people that have became super unhealthy once turning 21, because now they can go out and drink whenever they want, then they get the late night munchies and start making unwise food choices.  Alcohol is pretty much poison, it's fun poison at times, but I think it's a great responsibility to give to an 18 year old.  However, with the military there is such strict rules and punishments that actually exist, not like the soft parenting of today.  This culture and rules set will keep these 18 year olds in check for the most part.  If you go to battle and see your best friends die you will certainly need a shot and a beer.  For the others I say it may suck and I certainly see where you are coming from, although 18 still doesn't get you all the privileges, but it can wait till 21 when perhaps you've had time to mature.  I know 18 feels super mature but you'll look back not when your super old but in your mid 20's and realize you didn't know shit at 18.

Even though the drinking age is already 21, you have to understand that people are still going to drink and think that it is completely ok to do. There are already many present and dangerous occasions that a person before the age of 21 will get caught drinking and becoming intoxicated behind the wheel of a vehicle. That alone is a major issue among teenager accidents, as is texting. However, Teenagers are incredibly ignorant, and lowering the drinking age will not make anything any better, if anything it will make things worse, making it an easier access to give even younger aged kids in high school and even middle school kids more alcohol.

I agree, I think 18 should be the legal age for alcohol consumption. You can vote, go to war, and buy cigarettes at that age and I don't see why alcohol can't be part of that group. If 18 year olds are allowed to drink, they might choose drinking at a bar over a frat house and other similar locations. If they are at a bar they can be monitored better. If they are at a bar then bar owners are making more money, thus helping the economy.

Being this age teenagers are very experimental. Drinking under age is very common. I feel as if the punishment should be less than what it is now because it could really mess up your future. A DUI on your record is very harmful. Maybe court fees and community service or maybe substance abuse classes.

I agree. In my experience, a lot of my friends started drinking well before the age of 21 and we were still responsible about it. You are legal to do so many other things at the age of 18, why not be able to drink.

I think the drinking age should be 18, since most people drink underage. I think there should be serious consequences for people operating a vehicle underage. If someone was caught underage drinking at home or at a party, the consequence should be less severe.
