Should Michigan raise the speed limits for certain highways (i.e. Southfield Freeway and the Lodge which are 55mph)?

I believe that the speed limit should be raised, first and foremost as a citizen who regularly commutes using these expressways, I am very aware that very few people actually abide by this law. The speed limit is currently at 55 because back in 1956 the state of Michigan did not have any statewide legislation, and so The Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act lowered Michigan's speed limit to 55 mph. That's over 60 YEARS OLD! I just feel like every 10-15 years we should go back and review old laws/ policies and just give them a refresher to make sure that things are still safe but respectable as well.

I believe that the speed limits should be raised. The new speed limits would help to prevent accidents. Many people who travel on these highways do not follow the speed limit and drive faster. Many accidents are caused by people swerving around slower drivers, who are normally driving the speed limit. An increase in the speed limit would hopefully prevent these accidents from happening.

I would agree to raise the speed limit on roads that are still a Fifty-Five miles per hour. However, on highways such as I-69 which have raised to 75 mph, I have a different perspective. Southfield is a fairly populated area so i would agree to raise the speed limit, but not to speeds around 75 mph.

Yes, I believe the speed limit should be raised in Michigan. For example 696 I believe should be 75 because people are bound to go above 70 and 75 is still a safe speed. Also, I believe the Lodge should be raised to 70 because it is a very fast moving area and people break the speed limit all the time anyway.

I support raising the speed limits. People are already doing 5-10+ the speed limit and driving safely. I think these rules need to take into account current cars and advances when making these decisions. I do think that if speed limits are raised there should be stricter enforcement on distracted driving and driving under the influence. I would be in complete agreement for the 55 mpg highways. I don't think I've ever seen someone actually drive 55 on one of these highways.

I personally would love for the speed limits to be raised but I don’t think it would do any good because people already go 5-10 over the speed limit, so if it’s raised they are going to think they can go 5-10 over that new speed limit and then drivers who aren’t comfortable at a fast speed will cause even more accidents because people will be swerving around them. If people already drive slower at the speed it’s at right now, then there’s no way they will go faster then what they are comfortable doing.

I'm good with going a little faster, but it'll take away from the whole getting to go 5 to 10 over thing.  I know if I'm a cop and speed limits get raised to 75 or 80 I'm not allowing for cars to go 90.  So if it goes up I think tickets will go up as well.

I don't think so because it could be a safety issue. They made speed limits for a reason and I don't thinking raising the speed limit is a good thing because that can lead to more accidents and they would be more frequent.

I think we should make the car makers put more technology in cars like all of the safety features like collision alert, lane assist or other features and increase the speed limit because i think more speed with more safety features is good.
