It is important that we acknowledge this issue for it is a concern to people's health in the US. We must provide a healthier lifestyle and a way for our nation to support this. What are some ways that you suggest to emphasize on correcting this matter?

I think reducing costs for goods is a solution. It is quite expensive to eat healthy. Most Americans struggle therefore the cheaper option is the only option for them. Reducing costs for goods will allow the average American to make better eating choices.

I agree, we need to take some serious measures, because various statistics show that obesity in the U.S. is rising. Obviously, public health experts have been pointing out to the health risks associated with a poor diet for quite some time, but unfortunately this issue seems to be very difficult to control. In addition, obesity rates are a serious burden on our health care system. Recently gathered data shows that obesity costs will grow to $344 billion this year. For the most part, I think we need to change our relationship with food, but also change our society's mentality when it comes to taking your time to prepare and enjoy a healthy meal, without constantly looking at your watch. We need to put quality before quantity and allow ourselves to take a break from the demands that are placed on us on a daily basis.

I thinkth reason why obesity is high in the US is because food is seen as fuel rather than a cultural thing, if that makes sense.

Education. The majority of American's do not know how to eat properly. We are a country who puts sugar into everything. The country needs learn how to eat more fresh food and prepare their meals. This country is based off of speed, everything needs to be fast. We need to slow down though and make time to cook our own meals. It is SO important to make your own food and know what is going into your body. It is not expensive to eat healthy. It might be healthy to eat pre-made natural meals, but if you cook for yourself and meal prep it is reasonable. I don't make a lot of money but I can still afford to eat almost completely organic food. The problem with getting America healthy is that America does not make money off of healthy people. The country wants you to be being medicines and such, it's such a big market.

Obesity definitely needs to be addressed! More and more individuals are accepting the reality of there unhealthy habits, which soon causes health issues. Americans have become so lazy and have told themselves that there not “That fat” when really they are. Eating right can do a lot to the body and mind! It’s so sad that we are the #1 country of obesity.

I love this topic because more people need to be discussing it! Our health should not be taken lightly.  We need programs in schools and companies to educate people.  Not only do we make food that is extremely unhealthy but we eat way too much of it as well.  I think it would be very eye opening if on food menus next to the calorie count they included the serving size as well.  Just because you go to a restaurant and order one meal off the menu does not mean it is a healthy amount of food to eat for one individual.
I disagree with the statement that eating healthy is expensive,  I think It is definitely more expensive if you are doing it wrong.  For example a bag of Cheetos is less expensive than a bag of edamame crisps...but those edamame crisps aren't actually healthy.  Of course this is all relative to each persons reality of healthy eating.  I eat a plant based whole food diet and it is much cheaper than the normal American diet I used to have.

I think we need to focus on educating people on a healthy diet and the benefits of it like disease prevention! The more educated people become the more people will want to pass laws changing how are food is produced.

I agree that we need to discuss the affects of obesity and ways to prevent obesity.  We must have a "State of Emergency" discussion about obesity in the media everyday.  Too many people are dying from diabetes, heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes.  On June 9, 2018, Patrick Pryor, my brother died from a heart attack caused by obesity at the age of 37.  Patrick weighed over 500 lbs and he ate fast food, fried food, and processed (frozen/microwave) food his entire life.  Patrick was an exceptional leader.  He helped so many people in the community with food, temporary housing, and transportation for over 20 years.  Patrick really cared about people.

I believe that obesity is the root cause of most preventable illnesses that can be stopped with healthy eating (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.) and exercise.  Fresh foods should be eaten raw, baked, or boiled.  Stay away from french fries, potato chips, and other fried foods.  These fried foods can cause plaque buildup in your arteries (Dr. Oz Show).  This new way of eating is easy.  We can eat healthy without spending a lot of money.  Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day for hydration (add lemon or strawberries for flavor or another fruit/herb).  Eat 3 small meals and 3 small snacks per day:  chicken & broccoli, fish and asparagus, beans and rice, raisins, celery, peanuts, carrots, apples & peanut butter, salad, tangerines, and bananas (Food Network Magazine).  Do one step at a time and exercise 20 minutes per day.  Eventually, you will add more time to exercise when you're ready. It is time to take care of ourselves.

I agree. This is an epidemic. I don't want to sound like I think there is a consoiracy, but there is so much money on the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry....they both lose a lot of revenue of we all eat healthier. You mostly hear about how to "fix" problems related to obesity rather than prevention.

This is a very good subject to be talking about and trying to change. Obesity is real and very hard to over come and get rid of. I’m obese and have tried diet after diet and excerise after excerise program. But with everyday challenges as a family and work full time and school, how do it get it all to work together. The only solution my doctor has offered is surgery. Surely something I really don’t wanna do.

Obesity leads to diabetes and other illnesses. Surgery is not necessary to lose weight. There are too many risks that can lead to infection or even death after surgery. We can lose weight with hard work and dedication. We need more confidence, discipline, exercise and faith.

Create a nutrition plan and exercise (jog, walk, run, stretch, or yoga). Complete 1 step at a time each day. Remember, this is a marathon and not a sprint. Losing weight takes time and it will not happen overnight. Please keep a positive attitude and do not put yourself down. We are all on different levels and we need to go at our own pace. Drink lots of water, instead of sodas. Eat smaller portions, such as vegetables, grains, and protein. Be your own cheerleader. We can do this!

Actually, I am 41 years old and I need to lose 70 lbs. This is the fight of my life to stay healthy and live longer.  Losing weight it will not be easy, but I am not giving up on myself. I am determined to lose weight this time. One step at a time.
