There are several things but for starters stores lowering prices would encourage shopping adding money to the economy. I also believe keeping as many jobs as possible here in the states would help the US economy by lowering unemployment. Government help for smaller businesses would be very helpful in lowering unemployment. Better tax breaks for smaller businesses, the self employed, and low/middle income individuals will keep more money in the economy.

I think a good way of turning around the economy of a country is to get enough skilled workers.

But since education is very expensive most people can not afford to get a bachelors degree.

Therefore I would suggest a apprenticeship system.

The student signs a contract with a company for 3 years, in these 3 years the student will go 2 days to school
and 3 days to work at the company. The student would also receive 900$ or more as a salary per month.

The colleges would take the part of the common business education. So the colleges will not be left out.

The company pays for the credits at the college, and after 3 years the student will get a college certificate and
a apprenticeship certificate from the company.

I know that there are some company's in the USA that offer this kind of education but only very few people know about it.
I for my self have a 3 year apprenticeship in Germany behind me, and it was a great experience because i would have
real contact to customers and learn first hand how business works.

This system has many positive aspects:
- It eliminates the fear of high fees.
- Colleges have a steady flow of students.
- Company's get "cheap" labor.
- In the end the company's can take the student and employ them as a skilled worker, who does not need any training.
- Students gain real world experience.
- The small salary gives students more motivation because they get money for working and studying.
- The students learn from professionals that work with their subjects everyday.

There are really no downsides except that the company would have to pay the college, but the costs would be still
equal or lower to a normal employee.
It could also happen that company's only use the students as cheap labor forces, but that can be prevented by
having the students write regular reports and have them hand them in to a controlling institution.

What I basically described is the German Apprenticeship System.

For more information and sources check:

And here and article about the problems the system faces in the US:

this is a very unfair question because the economy is SUCH a tricky thing. i could easily come up with a wonderful smart alec answer like "give everyone more money", but we all know that's not how the world works. a better scrutiny is required here.

as we've discussed in class, the 1% of the wealthiest americans are hoarding all the nations wealth while the 99%, us, are left to scavenge for ourselves. on top of that, our national debt is still climbing and just gets worse and worse. so here are our problems, how do we fix them?

well, another smart alec answer; find a way to get the money away from those 1%er's, use it to pay the deficit off entirely, then everyone in the 99% gets a tax break. now everyone has more money! (except the 1%, but they have enough to get by like we do) now that everyone has more money, people are encouraged to spend it, which gets the economy going again. it's a very simple plan, but the end result needs to be more spending money in the pockets of the 99%.

I believe that education is key to a successful economy and growth of our country. I also don't believe money is an issue in many circumstances. We are one of the wealthiest nations, but we are far behind the pack in education. I would agree with the comment below, which talks about having companies pay for students school, and in return they get educated workers that they trained based on their own curriculum.

You are very right that education is a huge key to success. Inmany countries there is education for all. Our country has education for all minors inpublic schools but by no means is all of that equal from one school to the next. The wealthy get wealthier not only because tey have the money but they are also the ones that get the best training and educations.
The US has amazing educational programs, schools, universties, etc but not everyone has access to them. We need to find a much better way to improve the educational oportunities in our country at all levels.

With all the damage we've done to the world, I think the best route to go would be to invest in nature. We have directed our attention so far beyond what is natural to us, and we have received benefit in a number of ways, but instead of using it as an aid we have trained ourselves to rely heavily, if not predominantly, on it. Our nature is what each and every one of us have in common; our nature as human beings, and the natural world we live in. Sure, we live in different areas of the world, and it may seem like a different planet when we're there, but it is the same Earth. We all need the Earth to survive: we need air, water, food, sunlight, all of which we obtain here on this Earth together, regardless of which side of it we're on. We all have the same basic, natural needs, and are in need of fulfilling that need any given day. If that's not room for a global economy, I don't know what is. It's just a matter of getting there from where we are now.

I personally feel the best way to turn around the economy in the USA and across the globe is to increase the pay scale for the lower class and the middle class so, that the standard of living for people is better and as a result of this the economy would be significantly better.

I believe the best way to revive the US economy is to focus largely on welfare recipients. Some people on welfare are using this money to buy drugs. If the government would drug test welfare recipients, i believe the government would force people to not be so lazy and also save some government dollars.

The best way to improve the economy is stop raising college tuition so people can go to college, get an education and a job then most people will become wealthy, being able to buy extra things such as boats, cabins, vacation houses, etc.

There really isn't an easy answer to fix the economy in the USA and taking it to a global scale makes the answer even more difficult to discover or create. With that in consideration, I would start in the USA by lowering taxes.

I agree that education is one of the keys to a successful economy. I understand that not a lot of communities have money for education and the funds for certain school districts are even lower, but that shouldn't stop anyone from wanting a better education for their child or that child wanting a better education. There are a lot of resources out there, it just depends how hard someone is willing to look for them. After school, YMCA, churches,  and public libraries all have programs that could be beneficial to a child's education.

To start off with, we need to make sure we do not waste any of our money.  I learned that our taxpayer money, up to 16 billion dollars in fact, is wasted on animal testing.  Judging from what I saw on the video we watched, some of the richer people may do well to give those who are more poor a good share of their money.  We also may need to start finding new occupations for people to take up that are really needed.

i think that offering people incentives to work and become educated would be a good place to start, many young people are discouraged from higher learning and many older or unemployed people are discouraged by low wages and entry level labor, i feel that by exposing the youth to a college atmosphere and giving them the tools to succeed such as small class sizes and increased one on one experience would have a large effect on turnover rates, likewise, many elderly people are incapable or sensitive to manual labor therfore they should also be given educational incentives that could give them the edge they need to re enter a struggling field, these incentives could consist of  things like paid field experience and training in which they could learn their trade before actually entering the work force.. it is these people we need to contribute most to increase the functionality of the economy, especially our youth because they represent our future..

That is so true! I work at a bar and when one of my co-workers was asked if we accept EBT cards from a customer who clearly smelled like marijuana, I could not believe it. How is that fair?? There definitely needs to be more restrictions for welfare recipients.

I think the US economy would turn around if companies would increase hiring, but in order to do this they would need to outsource less and that might happen if the government increased corporate tax breaks.  Also I feel that the credit score system needs to be changed because it creates more problems for the economy than insuring stability.  As far as the global economy goes with so many different currencies, governments, and trade regulations it becomes a extremely complicated issue.  My best guess would be to start with the imports and exports for all the different countries and try to balance it out more.

reply to the question: "what would be the best way to turn around the economy in the USA and across the globe?"

the only way the economy will ever "turn around" is if attitudes change. we are too divided as a country to have a prosperous economy. people note that others on welfare are 'abusing' the system and lazy, or something like that. there is always someone who abuses any kind of system, but the vast majority of people on welfare.. food stamps, disability, etc. are in a terrible situation. i see people who talk about how they 'can't believe' where their tax money goes, or they complain that their money goes to these families in need. i think, wow, you really have that hard of a time paying taxes to welfare to help someone? that is part of what is wrong; i would give anything to help johnny feed his kids who are literally starving. these people on systems like this qualify for them, and it is near impossible to get on such systems unless you are near homeless. if you have a place to live, money for things like pizza and a phone, a pet, and clothes, why is it so hard to help others? one should be glad that they can make a difference to help someone live another day. unless you've been to the bottom, making no more than 7 or 8 grand per year, you have no idea the struggle and suffering. the depression that kind of life causes, the hunger and the loss of will to even try to carry on. the money you would "save" by not giving (paying these taxes) might get you that new dining room set or pay for your boat or your son's third iphone upgrade this year. but to those on welfare it means they can have dinner today (not breakfast or lunch, just dinner), or they can (just barely) pay their rent so they have a roof over their head. the fact that people don't want to help others needs to change before the economy can.

and if, some miracle were to occur where everyone had everyone else's interests before their own, the wealthy could stop living extravagant lifestyles just enough so that others could at least have a moderate lifestyle. we could use an american robin hood to fix the economy, and with how unevenly the weath is distributed, that is really the only hope. for now. it is a shame that there is so much money out there; and yet so many in poverty. it is very sad.

found online, from the words of mothers in poverty:

When you miss Food Bank day because you don’t have enough gas or bus fair to get there.

When you get a letter stating that you have one month left on your life insurance and think about how great it would be if you died before the month was up and the kids got all that money for groceries.

When you stretch out your epilepsy medication by shorting yourself a pill every few days because you can’t afford the medication and formula.

When your husband needs over 2000 dollars to fix his teeth so they won’t hurt him any more but not having the funds to even fix a couple.

When your oldest child drops out of school and gets his GED. Because he ‘doesn’t like school and doesn’t want to go to college anyway’. Then you find out he did it so he could work and help pay for things the family needed because you were injured.

Being poor is when you child goes to bed hungry because you have no food left to feed her. Or when you haven’t eaten but one meal in the last three days and know you have to eat but don’t want to take that food away from your child.

before someone complains about the money they have to pay to these people, try living like them. educate yourself and watch a documentary. it will bring you to tears. you see these children face nasty, adult issues and problems.. they grow up with a horrible outlook on society mixed with depression. even people "above the poverty line" suffer problems like this but can't get help because they don't "qualify." the poverty line was set so long ago, and costs of living have increased drastically since then. i absolutely hate talking about the economy. humans let down our own kind every day. no one wants to be in that situation. and when you're at the bottom, all you hear is others trying to talk about how they wish they didn't have to help you.

the economy is a lost cause. money was invented as a solution and is now the problem. i don't know any solution other than changing what's inside of us. opinions, attitudes, desire for equality. when that happens, an intelligent decision can be made.

Turning around the economy... pretty simple solution, but its a lot harder then what people think. For starters, they definitely need to start opening up more job opportunity for people that are struggling to find jobs and are unemployed. Also, lowering the cost of goods would definitely help due to more people buying goods and having direct profit for the business which could lead to promotions for the business and opening for more jobs. Another example would be to support the and open more small businesses, which could escalate the economy and create more jobs.

To turn around the economy in the United States, we as a nation need to change our attitudes. Everyone wants change, but many people don't want the cuts to hurt themselves. We need to stand together, and understand that everyone will have hard times. We need to realize that its going to be tough, but cuts need to be done in order to fix this mess. Also, we need to get control of the free rider problem, and make sure those who are taking advantage government social programs truly need them. There are too many people out there that have no incentive to try and find a job, or try and find a higher paying job because the government hands them money. There are people who need this help, but there are also people who are taking advantage of this system. We as a nation need to try harder, and not just rely on our neighbors to do the work, and take the cuts.

plain and simple, keep jobs in the U.S. Sending jobs across seas is putting a major damper on us. Just because its cheaper labor in other countries we the people suffer from it. But it is actually our fault, always demanding more money. We are destroying ourselves and when things go wrong with work, we blame everyone but ourselves. Look at this; 2 people have the same trade, both can lay brick and have been doing so for 20 years. One is a Journeyman the other is an average worker. The average will make minimum wage to $10/hr, while the journeyman will make $30/hr. See the problem?

Nobody is saying here that every individual on Welfare is abusing the system. But I can't count the number of times I have seen people selling their food stamps to get money for drugs. Which is why I agree with the person who commented earlier that a drug test should be mandatory in order to receive assistance through the program. Yes people are on the system who are down and really need the help, and a lot of those individuals are totally drug free. So they should have nothing to hide by a drug test. Your post talks about unless you have been to the bottom you have no idea, well I do have an idea. My income last year for a family of three was $ 6,083. I am not on welfare, and I feel that if individuals really need the help they will have no problem with the drug test unless they are using, in which case I don't feel that the government and our tax money should have to contribute to that. I have been in countless grocery stores where people will use an EBT card, and then go out to the parking lot and get into a Lincoln or a Cadillac. Come on now, really. You talk about the children, well think for a minute about the opportunities those children could have if the people abusing the system were weeded out.

I think that there should be a pay cut for all the government officials. They are so busy fighting between parties, they have forgotten that they have a job to do. If they can't seem to do the jobs that they were put in office to do, why is their pay so high. The average Senator or Representative is $174,000. Cut those salaries, and apply the money from those cuts directly to the national debt.

There are many ways we could fix our economy. One way is to have equal education for every child. Also, for all colleges to be equal in there learning and how people view community college to a big university. Education plays a huge roll in all aspects of society. plus, it would help if there weren't any crooks in our government.
The big part in the worl's ecenomy is all the wars that happen which cause a big issue in every countries ecenomy. so, if there were not any government that thought they were better than another it would be perfect. But, that will never happen. Plus, if a government did not cause trouble in there country, this would be awesome too.

The people will be the ones who suffer in the end if they do not. Look at what the sequestration means for the people. Cuts to the medicare program, to the education for Veterans who have put their lives on the line for us, the House and the Senate have a job to do, and they really need to do it before the economy gets any worse.

I think that the key to turning the global economy around is first and foremost to learn how to get along and tolerate other cultures. We should look at outsourcing as a business relationship. While providing factory jobs in China, we are creating new consumers. Moreover, those factory jobs are jobs that most Americans will not want to do for the pay that is offered. In America, we need to focus on pushing our service economy forward by offering higher education. We have not had an industrial economy for quite some time, yet many Americans are still striving for those jobs with no avail. If we learn to work with other countries and embrace change, everyone will eventually benefit.

The best way to help the economy in the USA is to first stop wasting tax payers money on useless research such as what is the polar bears dominant paw. Did really need to know that the polar bear is left handed? Do we really need to know what animals get drunk? Honestly that money should at least go towards our national debt that is over 16 trillion dollars and rising dont believe me look at this  http://www.usdebtclock.org/ . Its really sad to see what is happening to all of our money and none of it is really makeing it back to the people so that they can spend spend spend to keep the economy rolling.

Well it's not an easy solution at all or else the economy would already be turned around. But what makes the most sense to me would be promoting small businesses which in turn could eventually create more and more jobs. But I also think that Americans are babies. A lot of families I know who are "struggling" still have food on their tables every night. I think people need to realize how blessed we really are as Americans and learn to live within our means whether the economy is great or terrible.

There is no easy solution, and virtually very few of us have any credibility to argue a solution.

In my opinion, at this time, I believe the best solution would be to simplify Federal Agencies. Put forth a flat tax and close all loopholes. Considering the percentage of tax revenue going to the defense department, and local agencies, I would suggest cutting this number drastically, especially with private contractors. With the war closing, there really isn't any point into researching into Sci-fi military tech that will, likely, never be implemented.  Another solution could cracking down on monopolistic competition and cutting expensive regulation; that way small companies can expand and compete more effectively.

i think there are worse things people could be doing than drugs. whether one is legal or not fluctuates through history and time. overall, i just think the main focus should be more on those who do have money than those who don't.

There really isn’t one set way to turn around the economy. But i think one thing we could do in the United States would be to legalize the growing of hemp. By legalizing hemp we could use it for building homes and paper goods. We would save the forests and hemp is much cheaper to grow, which would save people money. You can also use it for food, and clothing, which when sold will yield a profit. Also you need people to turn the raw hemp into all of the different goods which would create jobs. i have also heard that hemp can be used as a biofuel, which would save people some money at the pumps. Overall hemp is pretty useful and in the United States it is illegal. I don’t no if I’m just too far left winged but it doesn’t make sense to why it’s illegal.

I'm really not sure what the best way to turn the economy around would be but making sure people trust in the market enough to spend their money is a theme I seem to hear on the news frequently. Maybe that's all it comes down to really, finding ways to get people to spend their money.

Education. More time and resources should be invested into teaching students how to find information for themselves, think critically, and focus less on memorization and more about actually absorbing information. More hands on learning needs to be incorporated into learning and real life skills like managing money and running a household need to be emphasized more.

I believe that students who are taught to love learning will go on to have a much greater impact on our economy because they are always wanting to experience the world around them and aren't afraid to start businesses, create jobs, work with others, and globalize.

The best way to turn around the economy in the USA and across the globe would be to stop wasting money on unnecessary things that we don't need and stop being greedy and having the mindset that everything is about yourself. We as an society could help so many individuals life's better if a large population cut back on spending money on themselves and help someone else child or family. I feel that if everyone had motivation to do this the economy would be much better because they would be a decrease in poverty.

There are many ways to turn the economy around, unfortunately it may have to start with sacrifice and budget cuts. Our leaders in Washington D.C. need to do their job and lead our country into the future without saddling Americans with debt. We need to stop borrowing money from other countries and take care of our people and protect our resources. As Americans it is our duty to elect politicians who have our best interests in mind... the best way to do that is get out and vote. That would be a good start....

Good Day ,
I often think of this issue about stopping importing from other countries. Problem is, people complain that there are no jobs yet they do not want a factory to built in an area that is close in proximity to their homne due to pollution on many levels. People enjoy buying their products cheap, yet complain that they do not have work..it's like it's a catch 22 scenerio!. I beleive we need to bring production back into our country.

1.      The best way to turn around the economy in the USA and across the globe is entrepreneurship; moreover, these numbers of employers are important and their productivity should help determine the health and wealth of the U.S. economy. Throughout its history, the United States has experienced steady growth in the labor force, a phenomenon that is both cause and effect of almost constant economic expansion.

Good Day Trent,
In order for our economy to turn around education is key, for people in the workforce. However, big business looks for cheap labor and materials. Alot of countries do not go by the laws on many different levels from workers rights to pollution in the air, to place these items on the shelves at the dollar store. We can all say that education is key, but on paper the corporate CEO's that are bringing in the top 10%, want more money in their pockets.
I agree with education we can create and produce new ideas that formulate jobs. Supporting local mom and pop shops, help the small businesses in our community.

Anita,
I think this is a great point. Something else to ponder. How can we turn the economy around when people are too scared to spend their money in the stores, due to thinking they will soon lose their jobs- due to items being made overseas. Banks are too afraid to the small business owner, because if they go out of business the bank is responsible for the money lost.  This is a huge problem.  People do not want to spend, companies do not want to hire employees at minimum wage when they can get cheap labor overseas. When you own a company you want to make a profit. The United States has higher labor costs, land is more expensive and materials are much higher in price. It is a vicious circle.

The Best way to turn the economy and across and across the globe is to increase the real-estate market, create more projects in order to create jobs. increase minimium wage so that more money will be in peoples project. Lowering prices would also help.  I agree with James austin on the lower the prices the more likely would encourage people to buy. Lower gas prices would help with stimulating the economy. I believe that by having a variety of different classes would not only create jobs for teachers but will help with future students become successful and find the American Dream.

Get experienced workers, lower the prices of everything (don't be so greedy businesses!) and things like that. I think one of the best ways of turning around the economy would be by lowering the price of food and gas, by making our standards for American Citizens higher, and by creating more jobs. Another thing that has to be taken into consideration is Americans on welfare and citizens on unemployment. People these days are so lazy, they think that they dont have to work and that they can just sit around and do nothing while the government pays their bills and give them money. I do not agree with that at all. If you work hard and do your best at everything you do, there is nothing that you can not accomplish. Americans need to start finding new ways to make money, and new jobs need to be created so that they have that oppurtunity.

I think the best way to change the economy in the US is for the government to stop handing out so much money in the form of welfare. It's like rewarding a child for doing nothing. If someone wants money, they can go get a job. If an 18 year old, like myself, can find a job so can grown adults. Now, while I understand that some people are just down on their luck, many people just don't bother to work. If you have a job (or two, possibly) and you manage your money wisely, it shouldn't be hard to get back up on your feet.

I think one of the biggest economical problems in this country is the outsourcing of jobs. So many major American corporations are sending jobs over sea's these days to save money, and make the 1% even wealthier.  This is taking away jobs from the working class, increasing unemployment rates, and making the gap between rich and poor wider. If we could get more jobs, with decent wages, not only would that stimulate our economy but others as well.  I think there should be government incentives for keeping or bring back jobs to the US, and penalties for  those that outsource.

If I could cut something, it would probably be to cut welfare.  I get the fact that it is supposed to be a good thing but I feel like there are way too many people who exploit it.
They refuse to get a job and just live off their free handouts because they are lazy.  Like I said earlier, I do understand that there are people who do in fact need it.  I just don't think there are plenty of people that deserve it especially when a lot of people do work for their money and they still make less than what people who don't try make off of welfare.

I believe that in order to help the economy we must reform the education system as it is not an effective way of learning or teaching.
For example, the Finnish way of teaching involves no standardized tests until high school and no regular homework until the age of sixteen. This and a few other things grants them some of the most well-learned and intelligent children around. A well learned and intelligent child is more likely to succeed in life.

Regardless of what we do now to better the US economy, in the long term, we are economically screwed. Ever since the 1950s, defense spending has been ridiculousness higher than it needs to be. The legacy cost of off-duty and reserve soldiers, alongside technological investments and equipment are all components of said spending. However, the majority of it goes to the defense industry in the US. Because of this, the industry has become the largest and most profitable in the world, which has created a term known as the military-industrial complex. It the US were to return to peace time spending, which is significantly less than what the post-2014 defense projections, they the defense industry, which employs or connects in some way to virtually ever other industry, will have to cut back or may collapse, which will lead to an economic recession/depression I don't think we will be able to recover from.

There are millions of things we need to do to turn around the economy, but even know our government knows these things, they still can't come up with a to solve them while trying to keep the majority of people happy. I understand that people cant work but there is a BIG difference between people who "cant work" and people who are too lazy to work. I am a 20 year old student with two jobs and I have been working since i was 15 years old, i'm sure it is possible for people out there to find a job even if its not what they want to do. Second I think it would be good for college tuition to be lowered because people cant afford school which results in not being able to get the degree a person has always wanted. Third I believe that they should raise the minimum wage, more money in peoples pockets results in more people going out and spending money which is exactly what the economy needs.

I think one way to turn around the economy in the long run is to increase minimum wage. There are multibillion dollar companies that pay their workers $7.45 or whatever it is while they are cashing in as the CEOs and other big wigs. More money to the middle class workers means more money is able to be spent and pumped back into our economy. If minimum wage kept up with productivity and inflation, it would be more than $22/hr right now. I think that needs to be adressed and from what I hear, there are steps being taken to raise minimum wage.
