Well this is a very interesting question, why would you ask?  I would say it depends on the amount of business they are getting, and if they are having a private party that is another reason because they might not want people crashing their event. There could also be issues with keeping the peace in some cases.
If a person is asked to leave then it could either be a misunderstanding or they could just be acting rude to a person.  I would call a lawyer because they might be giving you free money by doing this.  Some types of people are out to somehow rip off their workplace, something like one in 5 people.  These types of people might have this ideal that they can cause a lawsuit by being rude, while trying to get fired so they can get unemployment.

One of the primary concerns for a manager is to watch out for this type of behavior.  If an employee just does not want to be there then it might be better to just let them go.  Also the random passerby should watch out too because they could be getting a free lawsuit.
President Trump has won over 500 lawsuits.  If you are treated unfairly then you should consider recording on your phone.  Small claims court could be a cheap option for multiple cases if you can spot them all.

This is a very interesting topic but a very good question on how people feel about it. I think after eating your food and have payed the bill you should probably leave. you have came there for what you wanted i don't see the point of sitting around afterwards anyways. i feel that its also a little disrespectful to say at the restaurant they have served you well why should you keep sitting there. the only time i think it is ok to stay if something is going on so you order a few more drinks and maybe an appetizer.  but i would be more in-favor of you should just leave after you eat and pay.

I think once you pay the bill you should most likely leave unless you are still ordering food or drinks then its ok. On the other hand if the restaurant is busy to the point of other customers having to wait a certain amount of time then you should leave after you've paid the bill. By staying at the restaurant while its busy it can set the staff behind and other customers wont be able to sit down as fast as they would like to. Also if they are close to closing time then its better to just leave after you've paid as well so they can clean up that area and close down for the night so they don't have to wait on you.

I think it depends on the occasion, and where you are eating at. I feel like if you are having a larger party you should be able to stay for a long time. But if it’s just dinner then not very long after you are done eating.

As long as you aren't there after they close and they aren't extremely busy where they need more open spot then, I think you should be able to stay as long as you want

I would say it depends on what business you are eating at and how busy it is. If the place is slammed then it is probably not the best idea to stay for hours because you are costing that waitress money.

As a foreigner I noticed that americans leave short after they finished their meal, however as I Brazilian even here we stay and talk for long hours there, many people look to us as we were crazy, however, we payed for the food and the table, we can stay as much as we want, usually eating in a restaurant with friends for us is a moment to be happy and talk, not just have food and leave. So I think you can stay as much as You and your companion desires.
