Supporters of Good Health Care Reform with a public option:
I am desirous of organizing a letter writing campaign for the NE
Georgian in which we base our objective on breaking through the barrier of
Republican denial on the health care issue. Hopefully, it can help us in
Habersham County in making a beginning of re-establishing some truth here.
Using the health care issue as described in my letter to the editor below,
individuals would choose a date, write a letter on any aspect of health care
you'd like (presenting the facts of the benefits of the public option for
health care, increasing understanding in any way you like) and somewhere in
your letter include the statement that "American government-run health care
is good (well run, excellent, etc)". If we stick to health care (and to our
focus statement), not allowing Republicans to divert us (particularly onto
cultural issues where we have diverse views), we can put up a united front
and hopefully force acceptance in our community of this well established
truth which is a beginning of breaking down their system of lies on the
subject.
We don't have to state whether we support Obama's plan (since we don't know
what it is), but I think it's best if we sound supportive of Obama's efforts
and positive - having faith and trust in a good final product in order that
ours be a positive campaign with good prospects of successfully changing
minds. That can probably be accomplished by choosing some member of Congress's
bill and being supportive of that. Pointing out some aspect of Obama's
presidency which has been successful is another way of sounding supportive.
Even if we fail in this particular specific goal, we will have surely
changed some minds on important aspects of health care. If it works as it
should, it will have enormous positive consequences. It is a win-win for us.
Please check the dates and email back with the date you choose for a letter,
if you decide to participate. Then:
- Submit a letter by Monday noon for Tuesday's edition, Wednesday noon (I
believe) for Friday for the date you choose..
- Treva Bennett's email address is ne...@thenortheastgeorgian.com
- The limit is 350 words.
We can start again for September if this is going well and worthy of
continuing. Thanks for doing your part if you are willing to help out with
making the public option a reality in our nation. Email me back if you are
willing, letting everyone know what date you choose.
I've enjoyed this present email discussion and have bee highly educated by
it and by the links and opinions and facts given there.
Thanks!
Bette Hinesley

Although Republicans are fond of saying that most Americans are happy with
their health care, our present system is not working for the majority of
Americans. The current system will bankrupt America by continuing our
present means of caring for those non-insured, particularly with the needs
of Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans needs now being added to the system.
However, breaking through the well-built Republican wall of denial on
this -and on all issues - can happen.
In the current health care discussion, a way exists to begin to move
Republicans toward sobriety. Focusing on one truth and compelling
Republicans to accept and acknowledge it is the way to begin to re-establish
a common ground for truth. This common ground can begin with the
acknowledgement that Medicare and the military health care system are well
run. Therefore compelling acknowledgement that American government run
health care is good is a good basis for breaking through the truth barrier.
Another truth - a corollary not as easily proven (not as obvious) is the
fact that change must happen now. The cost of doing nothing far exceeds the
cost of doing something. Republicans must be forced to admit these truths.
Working on this corollary, but continually going back to the first,
establishing that common ground, keeping discussions on track, not allowing
Republicans to go off track into places where they will try to take them, is
the way to force sobriety. For changing the subject is the alcoholic's way
of avoiding truth. Continually bringing the discussion back to the original
question until an answer is established is necessary for forcing the crack
in that wall of denial.
Breaking through is the necessary first step. We will have a long way to go
in re-educating, challenging the falsehhoods and misconceptions of decades
of deceit by the Ultra-Right Wing, but opening the door is the beginning.
Making one step at a time, Americans can do this. And with divine help, we
will be successful. Health Care Reform is essential in moving America
forward.
God Bless our President Obama as he works for the greater good, a public
option for health care reform. God Bless John Conyers and others
Congressional leaders who support this public option. May all Americans of
faith put health care reform in divine Hands in order that we receive the
best health care for all Americans. .
God Bless the United States of America.
