I have been investigating Mary Baker Eddy.
I am amazed to find that she is one of only a handfull
of people in history to actually find out what God is.
How a mere woman was able to do this is astonishing
to me.. knowing as I do the decades of life and death
struggle it requires to discover it.
Beyond that, it is a miracle that she progressed beyond
the stage of explaining this discovery in "parables"... that,
being an eminently practical new England woman, she
explains it in terms of "science". She is the only "prophet"
if you will, who has ever said "God is mind"... a
historic statement given that it is now backed up by
a formal religion and a major church following.
As a man, I certainly am awed and nonplussed by her
bravery, strength and success.
At any rate, my discovery (GOD=G_uv) completely
confirms everything she ever said, and the historic
acconmplishment of her "discovery of God".
As you know CS membership has been declining
since the 1950's, in fact the Church is now facing actual
financial problems. We may suspect of course that the
underlying reason for this is that Mary Baker Eddy (in 1866)
when she wrote Science and Health was primarilly interested
in the "healing" aspect of knowing wha God is. Of
course there have been tremendous advances in medicine
and public health care since the Civil War when she wrote
the book, and today this has probably contributed to
the decline of the Church (which is not a major decline by the way).
What I see now, is a new mission for "knowlege of God"
which is perhaps more important even than physical healing... and
that is the social healing of human progress. The healing
of "social health" on a global scale. As you know
we are now in a religious conflict with a foreign religion.
There is still such a thing as "atheistic communism" in the
world. World society at large is still basically ignorant of
what God is. Therefore, it seems to me that the CS curch
would have a vested interest in determining if the scientific
proof of God that I have discovered is valid. Not only would
in be a scientific confirmation of everything the church teaches,
but it would also point the way to a new need, and a new role
for CS on the world stage. Certainly CS has been aware of this
need for a long time, since their publication of the Christian Science
Monitor is certainly a historic sign of that.
I intend to contact the board of directors of the mother church in
Boston, eventually... Virginia Harris chairwoman, in particular,
and find out if the CS church would be willing to undertake an
"investigation" into this newly discovered "scientific proof of God".
Of course, I wish that I could talk to Mary Baker herself, but
hopefully the current leadership of the church still has her
vision, and won't rebuff me without due consideration.
Meanwhile, I have contacted the local Hebrew Synagogue
and have asked them if they would write me a letter of introduction
to the board of directors. The local Rabbi asked me "why us"
since you're not Jewish? I told him "I didn't know why, exactly"
but felt that they might be the proper people to introduce me to
a major Christian church board of directors (I am a Congregationalist
by birth, but have never attended church regularly).
If you have any less awkward or more appropriate ideas
concerning my attempt to contact the Christian Science Church
in Boston, please advise.
