Faster its full-auto rate of fire, faster it runs out of ammo.
Oppressed peoples worldwide would be happy for Washington to adopt

Does the M4 have a "full auto" mode"? I thought all rifles currently in
use had just a "burst" mode of 3 rounds or so.

See if you can catch some combat footage from Irag or Afghan on Military
History. Much of it is rock and roll.

Once met a Marine colonel who had been on a PIP for the M-16. The troopers
wanted rock and roll and the brass didn't want them wasting bullets - ergo 3
round burst. The colonel admitted though that 3 rd blows as it climbs and the
last round is always a flyer. With full auto at least you can recover and
balance the recoil as it's a steady pulse, whereas 3 round burst, especially
the way we implement it, tends to make it choppy.

M4 is semi-auto / 3 round burst, and the M4A1 is semi-auto/full auto
