Earl and those like him want to take away ALL your firearms because of
an accident like this. The guy who mishandled the gun should be
charged if appropriate.

Police: Accidental Shooting Kills Woman
Witnesses Say Gun Fell From Man's Belt, Discharged

POSTED: Monday, October 19, 2009
UPDATED: 10:38 pm EDT October 19, 2009

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –– Jacksonville police said a woman was killed
Monday afternoon by what appears to be the accidental discharge of a
concealed firearm.

Police said a man with a concealed weapons permit went into the Allied
Veterans Cyber Center Internet café on the Westside in the 5800 block
of Normandy Boulevard just east of Lane Avenue.

Police said the man's gun was mishandled or dropped and discharged,
striking a woman in the back. Witnesses said the gun fell from the
man's belt.

Police said a woman was accidentally shot and killed at the Allied
Veterans Cyber Center after a gun fell from a man's belt and
discharged.

Officers said the woman in her 40s, whose name has not yet been
released, died at Shands.

Police said the accidental shooting happened around 3:30 p.m.

Video: Man's Gun Fell, Discharged
They questioned several witnesses and the man who dropped the gun.
Police said the man has not been charged.

George Clark said he was in the back of the room at the cafe when he
heard what he thought was nothing more than a balloon bursting.

"We all said, 'Oh, that ain't nothing, just someone playing a game,'"
Clark said. "So we got up and we heard someone say, 'Oh my God, help
us, help us.'"

Clark said by the time they got near the front doors, the woman was on
the floor covered in blood.

"It was shocking," he said. "It got us to the point we don't even want
to come up here no more."

"There were several people in the business," JSO Lt. Larry Schmitt
said. "Whether they saw it or heard it, we're still trying to sift
through now. Detectives are interviewing several witnesses."

Signs of what is and isn't allowed inside the business are plastered
all over the door. And according to those who go there often, there
are more signs on the inside that say no firearms are allowed on the
property.

While police believe it appears to have been an accidental shooting,
some say even so, it won't keep them from coming back.

"Nah, it's not going to stop me," one person said.

Where in your world is it "appropriate" to have a gun,Earl?

I added talk.politics.guns to the "mailing list" simply because your
post was not relevant to this group and because I think it's always a
good thing to bring in other interested individuals into a discussion
to create some balance.

I've added it back. What does a gun control story have to do with
alt.activism.death-penalty?? Maybe we'll see some fresh faces in this
very peculiar group, huh?

Sleep well tonight,

Let's see if I have this healthcare thingy right. Congress is to pass
a plan written by a committee whose head has said he doesn't understand
it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it, signed by a president who
hasn't read it, with funding administered by a Treasury chief who didn't
pay his taxes because he didn't understand TurboTax, overseen by an obese
Surgeon General and financed by a country that's nearly broke.
What could possibly go wrong?

Hunting with handguns is an American gimmick, a bit
like bow and arrow. Why not a spear?

I have not looked for it, but is there no criticism
of this absurd practice?

Yes, John, there are people who do this in the USA.

I don't what the probability of making a 400 yard kill
of a deer with a handgun is, but I would say "null".
Even 50 yards would be doubtful. Hand guns are close
up weapons.

I had a semiautomatic pistol and have fired at rabbits without
ever scoring a hit. Ever. Rabbit hunting is generally done
with a shot gun. If you hit the animal with a 45 there would
be no eating it because it would not be there.

Here is some comment from the web.

"Disadvantages of handguns versus shoulder firearms

Handguns are often considered self-defense weapons for use under 50锟統ards
(46锟絤). While a handgun in the hands of an experienced shooter may be
effective at distances greater than 50锟統ards (46锟絤), a handgun cartridge is
much more limited in its energy capacity than many long gun cartridges.
Many rifles are able to achieve bullet velocities of over 3,000锟絝eet (914锟絤)
per second, but rounds for handguns are rarely capable of achieving
velocities over 1,500锟絝eet (457锟絤) per second. Thus, long guns are generally
more powerful at any range, and especially more effective at longer ranges
than handguns.

A shooter is generally able to achieve considerably greater accuracy with a
long gun than with a handgun. This is due partly to the longer distance
between the rear and front sights, partly due to a more stable hold
attainable with a long gun, and partly due to the higher muzzle velocity,
which reduces the bullet travel time and thus reduces external effects on
the bullet such as gravitational drop and wind.

A gimmick? Thousands of Americans use handguns all the time to hunt
small AND large game, as well as the Bow and Arrow.
Spear use is re-growing in popularity as well.

That's because you aren't allowed to own one, and you shake like a dog

Not many folks even attempt a 400 yard shot on a deer.

Handguns are useful for hunting out to about 200 yards depending on the
handgun.

Rabbits are hunted with .22s or a .38. They are not shot at 400 yards,
more like 30 yards or less.

That is true.....one reason why a handgun hunter needs to close more with
the game animal than a rifle shooter does.

Hmmm, some years ago Elmer Keith (responsible for the S&W .44mag)
pulled $600 from his pocket and told someone who was saying the same as you
to take 350 long steps out into a field and stand there while he (Elmer)
shot at him w/his 4" bbl .44mag revolver. After the sixth shot, if he still
could, the guy was welcome to walk back and collect the money. The guy
refused.

Now, admittedly, not everyone is capable of using a handgun at such
ranges, but it has been done often enough by enough people to thoroughly
debunk the lack of long range accuracy of handguns.

The fact that someone without a gun successfully defended himself and his
family against someone who had a gun. The armed citizen philosophy seems to
consider such an event impossible. You should ask the armed burglar about
that. But wait... I forgot. He's dead. Strangled.

The .44 Magnum cartridge was the end result of years of tuned handloading of

writer and outdoorsman of the 20th Century.[8]

Elmer Keith settled on the .44 Special cartridge as the basis for his
experimentation, rather than the larger .45 Colt. At the time the selection
of .44 caliber projectiles for handloaders was more varied, and the .44
Special case was smaller in diameter than the .45 Colt case. In revolvers of
the same size, this meant the .44 caliber revolvers had thicker, and
therefore stronger, cylinder walls than the .45. This allowed higher
pressures to be used without risk of a burst cylinder.[4]

Keith encouraged Smith & Wesson and Remington to produce a commercial version

For 54 years. I thought that loyalty to one's husband was one of those
conservative family values. I guess I was wrong.

Your whole classification of the two of us is based on nothing but ideology
anyway, so I don't know why I bother to bother with explanations for you. I
could instead do as you do, base the "retard" definition on ideology, but I
prefer not to do that. That is because all I know about you is what I see
here on the Internet. In person, you may be totally different. Just as I
may be.

I have learned from personal experience that meeting real life people who
are different than you are, in background and belief, changes your whole

Of course you are and were wrong.

It's done. Who brought us this load of crap, anyway? Was it Mr.
O'Phonyname?

I believe that if we do not respond further to them, they will crawl back
into whatever hole they came from.

Typical Leftist French cowards, who resort to filters to ignore the facts.

No wonder "Earl" is "old and ill."
He posts twice, than has his "Wife" take over the next day to post the
exact same stupidity for the next week.

Then there is this "John Rennie" who comes outa nowhere, with a nose so
brown, his entire face smells like porta-potty.
