(CBS) The new Charlie's Angels movie is out and CBS News Early Show
Contributor Laurie Hibberd spoke with its producer, Leonard Goldberg,
for Weekend Marquee.

Goldberg, who also produced the TV show, said if 25 years ago you
would have told him he would be sitting here talking about a Charlie's
Angels movie, he would have asked you what you were smoking.

"I thought this would be good escapist fun, but never dreamed it would
be a gigantic hit," said Goldberg. "It was the first time you could
see a woman who was intelligent, beautiful, powerful, but yet was
still feminine. And it amazed us. It was a hit from the very first
show."

And Goldberg hopes his updated Angels will have the same impact. His
first challenge to that end was coming up with the right formula.

"It was very difficult, because what was the movie going to
be?...Should we be going back and do it in period?...We said no, that
would be wrong. Should we do a spoof? I wouldn't do that because that
wouldn't be right to the people who worked so hard on it, including
myself. So we had to find the right tone," Goldberg said.

"We're not taking ourselves seriously," said Goldberg. "This is not a
reverential treatment of Charlie's Angels. Sit back, relax, have fun.
This is going to be a blast."

Once the tone was set, casting a dream team of angels was the next
step.

"I was sitting across from Drew, and I was looking into her eyes. And
she had such passion and such excitement, and she brought such a
youthful energy to it," said Goldberg. "I thought, if we're trying to
separate ourselves from the original Angels, Drew would be a good
place to start. And then she wanted to co-produce with me. And so we
met and talked about that, and I said okay."

Goldberg was thrilled when Cameron Diaz signed on without even reading
the script.

"This was the first movie that was going to be a big event movie where
there were going to be no guys. They were going to be the guys. They
were going to be kicking the butt and rescuing the people and looking
great. So all of that combined, and that's how we got Cameron,"
explained Goldberg.

With the addition of Lucy Liu, the angels were set. But this time
around, the gorgeous private eyes would fight crime with martial arts,
not guns.

"We talked about that, and we thought that given the violence that's
going on in our country...The villains have plenty of guns. They have
big guns, small guns, rockets, helicopters, bombs, everything. But we
thought, let the angels show you that you can do it without guns,"
said Goldberg.

A martial arts master, Chon Yan, was brought in from Hong Kong. He set
the rules: six to eight hours training a day, five days a week. No
alcohol, no other substances, no entourages. He said, "I'm an
artist...If you are not prepared to commit, I don't want the job." The
actresses took it very seriousl and got into shape.

But could a new set of angels make it in the new millennium? To make
sure the film's cool factor stayed high, Goldberg turned to his
daughter, Amanda, who was the film's associate producer.

"I was glad that she was working on the movie, because she said to me,
'I'll make it really simple for you, Dad. It either rocks or it
doesn't,' said Goldberg. "So I would look over to her during script
conferences or casting or dailies, and she would go, 'it rocks.'"

I've said that about any number of movies (and books) "Of course they will
win, they have the greatest force in the Universe on their side - the Author!"

Of course, Authors also do tend to introduce people to a story just to bump
them off.

How about the idiocy of perpetuating this myth that good guy without a gun

By Lia Haberman

Old action heroes don't die; they just make sequels.

At least that's the way it's looking in Hollywood, as a slew of '80s
tough-guy icons, some of whom are eligible for AARP membership, have
announced that it's clobbering time again.

Action stars with films in the pipeline include Bruce Willis, 47,
reprising his role as wisecracking cop John McClane in Die Hard 4; Mel
Gibson, 46, hitting the road again in Mad Max 4; Harrison Ford (news),
60, cracking the whip once more in Indiana Jones 4; and Arnold
Schwarzenegger (news), 55,making another killing in Terminator 3

Even 56-year-old Sylvester Stallone (news) is reportedly working on a
script for yet another Rambo sequel.

Whether it's a dearth of new action stars or simply nostalgia for
butt-kickin days of yore, it's tough to say. Willis' reps would not
confirm recent trade reports that the John McClane character is being
brought out of retirement to seal a deal between 20th Century Fox and
Revolution Studios, which is releasing Willis' latest project Man of
War. That film, as originally conceived, was to be part of the Die
Hard series.

In the meantime, Willis is reprising his role as a tough guy mobster
in The Whole Ten Yards with costar Matthew Perry (news).

Though Willis is letting the work speak for itself, Gibson, Ford and
Schwarzenegger have been publicly enthusiastic about reprising the
roles that helped make them action icons.

Gibson, who once said he was too old for the Lethal Weapon franchise,
recently signed a $25 million deal to reprise his role in the
postapocalyptic Mad Max franchise.

Not only will Gibson star in the new Mad Max film Fury Road, he'll
produce through his company Icon Productions in tandem with 20th
Century Fox, which will release the film.

Fox reportedly has high hopes Gibson is just the man who can bring
life to a years-dormant action franchise.

"There are so few roles that define 'big screen action hero,' and this
is one of them," Hutch Parker, 20th Century Fox's president of
production told Variety earlier this month. "This is an event movie,
and we know how to market event movies. It's Max the way you want to
see him."

The Indy sequel was just a matter of time. Or timing. Conflicting
schedules have kept Ford, producer George Lucas (news) and director
Steven Spielberg (news) from filming a sequel, which they've been
promising as far back as 1993. Finally, calendars aligned, and the
Hollywood heavyweights hope to release the sequel July 4, 2005, by
which time Ford will be 62.

The Terminator franchise, on the other hand, may be preparing to say
hasta la vista to star Schwarzenegger after this next film. The
recently released trailer for T3: Rise of the Machines features the
robotic, shades-wearin' Schwarzenegger in his signature role, but it
also gives plenty of screen time to a grown-up John Connor, played by
relative newcomer Nick Stahl (news), who must hold his own against the
deadly factory-fresh fembot T-X.

Does this spell the termination of the Terminator?

Or will he be back?

That one of the things I like about writing. If a character ticks you off,
you can rub them out. You know you are getting character development down
when one of your readers says, "Hey, I LIKED her! What did you kill her off
for?"

I got the tapes from ZBS productions for _Ruby! Galactic Gumshoe!" Oh
yeah, weird stuff, sort of a Sam Spade type. She has a chorus (a voder) which
gives helpful commentary. I.e. when the big dinosaur is chasing her, it is
saying "Run Ruby Run!") At one point, she's trying to figure out who killed
Monet (an Aurorian), and why.
"Who would want him dead?" she ponders. Her Chorus offers "The Author."
"Yeah," she says, the links falling in place. "Authors do that. They
introduce a character and then bump him off. Well, this is one character who
isn't going to be pushed around."

Odd story - she's been hired to find out who is manipulating perceptions of
reality. Oh yeah, right ... like that's not happened before. So we get to
meet android hookers, digital techies like Andor, and the techno witches
Offonoff and Onoffon (they're sisters, and Slavic.) Speaking of sisters,
there's the Android Sisters who are recording stars and have these weird little
interludes. And last but not least, TJ Teru, rock impresario and archeologist
(trigger happy too, he collapses the roof with gun fire three times), and the
Moles of ZeeZeeBoo, who are doing archeology from the underside, except for the
Festival of St Cougat. (Gotta be careful, the moles are not to be trifled
with. They're not moleiscious, nor moleevolent, but ... well, it takes two to
tango.)

[begin excerpt]

A tall, strikingly attractive blue-eyed natural blonde, Cameron Diaz
was born in 1972 in San Diego, the daughter of a Cuban-American
father and an Anglo-German mother. Self described as "adventurous,
independent and a tough kid," Cameron left home at 16 and for the
next 5 years lived in such varied locales as Japan, Australia,
Mexico, Morocco, and Paris. Returning to California at the age of
21, she was working as a model when she auditioned for a big part in
Mask, The (1994) To her amazement and despite having no previous
acting experience, she was cast as the female lead in the film
opposite Jim Carrey. Over the next 3 years, she honed her acting
skills in such low budget independent films as Last Supper, The
(1995); Feeling Minnesota (1996); and Head Above Water (1996). She
returned to main stream films in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), in
which she held her own against veteran actress Julia Roberts. She
earned full fledged star status in 1998 for her performance in the
box office smash There's Something About Mary (1998). With her name
near the top on virtually every list of Hollyood's sexiest
actresses, and firmly established as one of filmdom's hottest
properties and most sought after actresses, Cameron Diaz appears to
possess everything necessary to become one of the super stars of the
new century.

This article is from the June 5, 2000 issue of US Weekly. The article
is about Drew and her mom, Jaid. The article talks about Jaid's recent
arrest for possessing a gun, and how her and Drew have gotten along
over the years and how they are getting along now. This article is
written by Sarah Saffian and is copyright to her and US Weekly.

Pistol-Packin' Mama
With a recent gun bust and a scandalous memoir, Drew Barrymore's
53-year-old mother, Jaid, remains the family wild child

More astonishingly, Jaid sees herself as Drew's protector. The night
of her arrest, Jaid told police that she had purchased her gun in Los
Angeles in 1990, believing that she and Drew were being stalked. "I
hadn't taken it out in years until recently, when I felt I was being
stalked again," she said. she went on to explain that a few nights
earlier, she had been chased by a man on her way out of the subway. "I
actually hurt my arm badly when I fell in my panic to run away from
him," she said, displaying her bruises.
"If Jaid says she was stalked, even if it's not true, I'm sure she
believed it," says Anthony Haden-Guest, the author of The Last Party:
Studio 54, Disco and the Culture of the Night, who met Barrymore when
they both appeared in Whit Stillman's 1998 film The Last Days of
Disco. (Barrymore played the naked Tiger Lady.) "She has an edgy vibe,
which wouldn't make her a stalker repellent, exactly." [end of

The New Charlie's Angels

Clearly, the makers of the new Charlie's Angels had to refashion what
they considered to be the kind of ladies who would know how to mine
their feminine power. Girlpower being what it is, why shouldn't men
love women who can kick their butt?

"These girls are not afraid to take a big chunk out of life, chew it
up and swallow it, and take whatever flavor it is," Cameron Diaz told
news sources, who joins Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu to form the new
trio of Angels. "We really wanted," she continues, "was to create an
amazing world where women are celebrated."

When the Angels fly through the air, looking good and acting strong,
they are a threat to anybody who dares mess with them. As opposed to
the women on the TV show, who were a little less adept at working
through their aggressions with serious muscle, the new Angels are the
James Bonds of the feminist world.

And when it comes to women, you can always expect them to do things
with even greater brain power--these Angels don't carry guns. Claims
Diaz, "We wanted to empower these women with their own strength and
their own capabilities. There's something about being faced with
danger and being able to protect yourself with your own hands rather
than pulling a trigger, which any coward can do."

Quote:That's not to say the movie doesn't retain the voyeuristic
flavor of the TV show. There's plenty of fashion-runway posing,
hair-flipping, gratuitous cleavage and fetching costumes: Angels in
wet suits, skimpy racing gear, belly-dancing outfits, skintight
bodywear, even dominatrix business attire.

It wouldn't be "Charlie's Angels" without such eye candy, the
actresses say. And they expect the movie may draw some of the same
criticism as the TV show, which many critics found sexist and
exploitative.

Quote:The most notable difference is that the new Angels do not carry
guns. Instead, they are skilled in the martial arts, kicking and
chopping in aerial acrobatics that draw heavily on the look of "The
Matrix."

"We know there's a responsibility we have regarding the people who are
going to come see the movie, young kids," Liu said. "We wanted to show
them that if we're going to be seen as role models, which I'm sure
will happen, that we don't have to empower ourselves by using guns."

QUICK TAKE:
Action/Adventure: Three beautiful and sexy detectives are hired to
find a kidnapped software executive only to uncover an elaborate
murder-revenge plot that threatens worldwide privacy as well as their
very existence.
PLOT:
Dylan (DREW BARRYMORE), Natalie (CAMERON DIAZ) and Alex (LUCY LIU) are
three beautiful and sexy private investigators who work for Charlie
Townsend (voice of JOHN FORSYTHE), a reclusive figure they've never
met and who delivers their assignments to them via speakerphone.
Proficient in espionage through their use of various high-tech tools,
martial arts and disguises, the "Angels" - along with Charlie's front
man, Bosley (BILL MURRAY) - always get the job done.
Their latest assignment involves finding Eric Knox (SAM ROCKWELL), the
founder of Knox Technologies who's just been kidnapped. He's recently
designed a voice-identification program that's more accurate than
fingerprinting and Vivian Wood (KELLY LYNCH), the president of his
company, believes that rival Roger Corwin (TIM CURRY), who runs Red
Star Systems, may be behind the crime.

As the Angels begin to investigate Corwin, have various violent
encounters with a mysterious character known only as the Thin Man
(CRISPIN GLOVER), and deal with various significant others in their
lives such as Jason (MATT LeBLANC), Chad (TOM GREEN) and Pete (LUKE
WILSON), they deploy all sorts of disguises and tools while trying to
solve the crime. What they uncover, however, soon puts their, Bosley's
and Charlie's lives in dangers.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
Preteens probably won't (unless they're fans of someone in the cast),
but this hip retreading of the old 1970s TV show will probably have
many teens wanting to see it.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For action violence, innuendo and some sensuality/nudity.
CAST AS ROLE MODELS:
DREW BARRYMORE plays one of the private investigators who's proficient
at martial arts and disguises. She does sleep with Knox and it's
implied that she also slept with Chad.
CAMERON DIAZ plays another one of the Angels who's similarly
proficient at disguises and fighting. She's the more exuberant member
of the trio and enjoys having a good time (and occasionally dances
around - once in her underwear which is also how she opens the door to
a delivery man).
LUCY LIU plays the third angel who has the same abilities as her
cohorts, but is the more serious/intent of them all, and dresses and
does something of a dominatrix bit in one scene.
BILL MURRAY plays Charlie's front man and the angel's immediate boss.
SAM ROCKWELL plays a kidnapped software executive who sleeps with
Dylan and turns out to be a bad guy.
KELLY LYNCH plays the President of his company who also turns out to
be a villain and fights the Angels.
TIM CURRY plays the egotistical owner of a telecommunications company
who's believed to be responsible for Knox's kidnapping.
CRISPIN GLOVER plays a mysterious hit man who constantly smokes and
tries to harm or kill the Angels on various occasions.

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any
artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's
artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly
objectionable material listed below).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this PG-13
rated film. A great deal of action-based, martial arts fighting
occurs, with many punches and kicks (some of them rather brutal) being
delivered to both men and women. Other violence includes some lethal
moments (a helicopter exploding, an off-screen murder, etc.),
attempted lethal ones (several scenes where people shoot at others
with handguns and machine guns) and well as the non-lethal variety
(explosions, punches, etc.).
The various Angels occasionally dress or act provocatively (revealing
outfits and acting in feigned, amorous ways) and the camera often
focuses on their clothed body parts; it's implied that one sleeps with
two different men (we see her in bed the morning after each); some
verbal sexual innuendo is present; one woman is seen completely nude
from a distance as she accidentally rolls down a hill and then later
holds an inflatable pool toy that covers any explicit nudity; and a
couple goes into an airplane bathroom presumably to have sex.

Profanity consists of a few expletives and colorful phrases, while a
few songs have lyrics/subject matter that might be
objectionable/offensive to some viewers. Since many young girls might
look up to the three main stars of the film as role models, the
impressionable ones among them may want to imitate the way the Angels
dress, speak and behave (including all of the martial arts fighting).

Beyond that, the villains have the standard bad attitudes (including
attempts at killing people), while various characters smoke and drink.
If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for
anyone in your home who may wish to see it, we suggest that you more
closely examine our detailed content listings for specific examples of
what occurs in the film.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
Some people have drinks on a plane, including one "man" who orders
Scotch.
People, including Corwin, have drinks at a party/reception where Pete
works as a bartender.
Corwin has a drink at a racetrack.
A man drinks a beer in a belly-dancing venue.
Alex and Jason have wine with a meal.
Vivian has wine (and spikes Bosley's with some unknown substance).
Knox has champagne.
The Angels have drinks while lounging on the beach and they state that
Bosley has had too many drinks (we see him tip over in his chair).
BLOOD/GORE
We see blood splatter out from the front of a man's shirt as well as
the back of a woman's clothing as both are shot, but we then quickly
see that it's just a scene from a movie that's being filmed.
A man has a little bit of blood on his head after being kicked several
times.
Rockwell's face is a little bloody after being in a fight.
DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
A man has a bomb strapped around his chest, presumably to blow up the
plane he's on.
We see brief flashback footage of Dylan as a recruit and she punches
her "drill sergeant" instructor in the face (after tiring of him
badgering her).
Some viewers may be offended by a scene where Alex is dressed like a
stereotypical Japanese masseuse and her two cohorts join her (dressed
the same way) as the song, "Turning Japanese" plays on the soundtrack.
Knox turns out to be a bad guy who tries to kill Dylan (and thinks
he's succeeded), and Vivian turns out to be his criminal accomplice
who fights the Angels. Meanwhile, the mute Thin Man works for them and
fights/tries to harm/kill the Angels.
FRIGHTENING SCENES
It's possible that some viewers might find some of the scenes listed
under "Violence" as tense or unsettling, but most are played strictly
for action and/or laughs.
GUNS/WEAPONS
Bomb: Seen worn around a man's chest (to blow up a plane) and later
detonated in midair.
Handgun: Repeatedly fired by the Thin Man at the Angels.
Knife/Sword: Used by the Thin Man to threaten the Angels and
presumably to kill someone else.
Machine guns: Used to riddle a trailer in an attempt to kill someone.
Explosives: Not seen, but used to blow up a large building.
Fake gun: What Bosley has whittled some material into the shape of
while held captive.
Missiles: Used to destroy a brick/stone tower and blow up a
helicopter.
IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
Phrases: "Bastard," "Crazy bitch," "Jerk," "And that's kicking your
ass" and "Sucks."
Some kids, and in this case, girls, may want to imitate anything and
everything the Angels do, such as dressing/acting provocatively or
engaging in acrobatic martial arts moves.
We see Dylan at a younger age and she gives "the finger" to the
camera.
We see a young couple sneak into an airplane bathroom (presumably to
have sex), but we don't see anything more concerning them.
Natalie dances around in a cropped shirt and her underwear at her
place, often vigorously shaking her panty-clad rear end.
Posing as a masseuse, Alex gets rough with Corwin (he thinks its part
of the massage) by jumping and landing on his back.
We see a human fire breather do his thing at a party (hold a flame to
his mouth and spit alcohol over it to create a fireball).
JUMP SCENES
A building suddenly blows up.
MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
A moderate amount of suspenseful and occasionally ominous music plays
(sometimes in a playful manner) during the film.
MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
The song "Undercover Angel" has lines with wording such as "I never
had a dream that made sweet love to me."
Another song repeats the lyric, "Smack my bitch up."
A song has a lyric something along the lines of "do you do me baby."
Another song, "Baby Got Back," is all about the singer's preoccupation
with women's butts (that he likes them and wants women to shake them,
etc.) and includes the word "hell."
PROFANITY
At least 1 "s" word, 2 asses, 2 damns, 1 hell, 5 uses of "Oh my God,"
2 of "God" and 1 use each of "G-damn," "Jesus" and "Oh God" as
exclamations.
SEX/NUDITY
We see a young couple sneak into an airplane bathroom (presumably to
have sex), but we don't see anything more regarding them.
We see Natalie in a small and revealing bikini.
We see part of Dylan's bare hip (as well as lipstick smeared across
her face) as she sleeps in Chad's bed (suggesting they slept
together). When she gets up, he states that they can have breakfast
and then maybe "a little Chad."
Natalie dances around in a cropped shirt and her underwear at her
place, often vigorously shaking her panty-clad rear end. When she then
answers the door to accept a package from a deliveryman, she tells him
that after she signs a release waiver, he can feel free "to stick
things in my slot" (innuendo from the movie and not intentionally from
the character).
Alex and Jason rehearse some lines from a movie (although we don't
know this at first, thus leading to the following innuendo), with her
stating that it's going to be long, hard and rough and him replying
that he likes it rough and it just gets him there faster.
Alex shows cleavage.
We see Alex in a small, formfitting dress as she poses as a masseuse.
Later, as she gives a massage to Corwin, he says that she's good with
her hands and that he could use someone like her on his staff (of
employees). She replies that her hands aren't going anywhere near his
"staff" (a reference to his genitals that we don't see).
The camera briefly focuses on Alex's clothed butt.
While talking to Pete about this being her first time acting as a
waitress at a party, Natalie tells him that she's like a virgin, and
that it's her first time (more innuendo).
Dylan shows a great deal of cleavage while dressed in an auto racing
jump suit that's zipped down quite a ways in the front (she isn't
wearing a shirt). She then tries to distract a limo driver by stating
that it's "hot" and then suggestively licking his steering wheel.
The camera briefly focuses on Natalie's clothed butt.
We see Natalie and Alex dressed and performing like traditional belly
dancers and then later see the three women dressed in
cleavage-revealing outfits where one of them smacks the clothed butt
of the other while performing a song for a man they're trying to dupe.
The camera briefly focuses on Alex's clothed butt while she wears a
tight, leather miniskirt. She then acts like something of a dominatrix
while addressing an assembly of software engineers who are mesmerized
by her, her appearance, and her repeating cracking of what looks like
a riding crop.
The camera briefly focuses on Natalie's clothed butt as she bends over
wearing a formfitting outfit.
Wearing what looks like a tight, leather dress, Vivian visits Bosley
and then aggressively comes on to him, kissing him and then moving
partially on top of him on his sofa.
We see Dylan get out of Knox's bed with just a sheet wrapped around
her, suggesting that they had sex. When Vivian later spots her that
way and comments on working undercover, Dylan snidely remarks that
hers is a "full service job." Later, Knox states that Dylan was (what
sounded like) "a tomcat in the sack."
Moments later, Dylan hangs from that sheet and then falls to the
ground below and rolls down a hill completely nude (seen from a
distance and without any detail, but you can tell she's nude). She
then picks up an inflatable, donut shaped pool tool that she holds up
to her body (thus covering her breasts and crotch, but we see her bare
belly and the sides of her bare hips from a frontal view) while
knocking on a sliding glass door to ask two boys for help.
Natalie shows some cleavage in a scuba outfit and when she and her two
cohorts begin to remove those wetsuits, we see their bare backs but
the camera pans up before we see anything else.
SMOKING
The Thin Man smokes more than 5 times, Knox smokes a few times, Dylan
does so once in a flashback to her rebellious years, some
miscellaneous/background characters smoke (one uses a cigar), and we
see a still smoking cigar in an ashtray (that belongs to Charlie).
TENSE FAMILY SCENES
Knox mentions that his father was killed in the past when his Green
Beret partner turned on him.
Dylan then mentions that her mom died when she was six and that she
never knew her father.
TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
The way in which the women resolve their problems and the situations
in which they find themselves.
Drew Barrymore's character sleeping with two different men over the
course of the film.
VIOLENCE
A man grabs another man by the neck, moves over to the exit door on
their plane that's in flight, and opens the door. They're sucked out
of the plane and plummet toward the ground, while a bomb is pulled off
the second man's chest and then explodes in midair (no one is hurt).
We see brief flashback footage of Dylan as a recruit and she punches
her "drill sergeant" instructor in the face (after tiring of him
badgering her).
Natalie turns around and accidentally slams into a doorframe.
Dylan playfully throws a rock hard muffin at Natalie, hitting her in
the chest. In turn, Natalie heaves it back at Dylan, missing her, but
it becomes embedded into the door behind her.
We see videotape surveillance footage of someone coming up behind Knox
and hitting him on the head, knocking him out, while someone else
struggles with Vivian.
Posing as a masseuse, Alex gets rough with Corwin (he thinks its part
of the massage) by jumping and landing on his back and then later
rendering him unconscious with her feet.
The Thin Man pulls out his gun and repeatedly shoots at the three
Angels who were chasing him. Natalie then races up and kicks him
backwards into a fence. He then pulls a long knife/sword from his cane
and comes at them, but the women kick him and they then get into a
prolonged fight with more acrobatic martial arts moves and kicks. He
then kicks Natalie and Alex back into or through fences and after
Dylan jumps on his back, he smashes her into a wall, throws her down
to the street and tears out a handful of her hair. They then kick him
in the face many times, but he gets away.
As Natalie chases after the Thin Man (both are in race cars), various
other cars wreck into each other (and become airborne while doing so).
Eventually, the two face each other on a bridge and then race toward
each other in a game of chicken with the Thin Man's car hitting hers,
becoming airborne and then falling a long distance into the water
below them.
While dressed like a cross between an efficiency expert and a
dominatrix, Alex hits one of cohorts with what looks like a riding
crop that she also smacks around on other items.
We see blood splatter out from the front of a man's shirt as well as
the back of a woman's clothing as both are shot, but we then quickly
see that it's just a scene from a movie that's being filmed.
We see the Thin Man raise his knife/sword and it's implied that he
kills a man with it.
A person grabs Natalie around the neck. She then pokes him in the
eyes, and then spins around and kicks him. She then holds her foot
against his neck and then kicks him again, knocking him out.
People shoot machine guns into a trailer where Alex is staying,
ridding it with bullets (but she's unharmed).
Vivian holds a gun on Dylan. Knox then takes it from her and shoots at
Dylan, presumably hitting her as she falls backwards through a large
window that shatters from the impact (but she isn't hurt).
A building suddenly blows up and knocks the three Angels backwards and
against a car's windshield (no one is killed, however).
Vivian aims her gun at the back of Dylan's head.
Natalie kicks and hits several men who tried sneaking up on her.
The Thin Man pulls out his large knife/sword and comes at Alex. He
tries to strike her with it but misses and she knocks him backwards.
They then fight and continue doing so (with kicks, punches, etc.) with
some severe impact.
Vivian throws an ax at Natalie and it sticks in the door/wall next to
her. They then fight (with more hand to hand/foot to body combat,
etc.) and Vivian destroys Natalie's cell phone.
A large bell falls down through a bell tower, ripping through some of
its structure and nearly hits two women.
While briefly tied to a chair, Dylan fights several men, kicking and
hitting them with the chair (and even kicking a bucket that strikes
one on the head). When she's done, she's knocked out all of them.
A helicopter-fired missile hits a brick/stone tower, causing it to
explode and nearly kill several people.
After dangling from a helicopter with her cohorts, Dylan climbs inside
and hits the pilot (causing Alex to nearly fall off the landing rung).
Dylan then kicks the pilot several times in the face and in turn, he
elbows Dylan in the gut. He then fires a missile toward a house.
A missile blows up a helicopter, presumably killing the person inside
it.

ONCE UPON A TIME...
Charlie's Angels on television
- 108 episodes, from 1976 to 1981
overview by Donald Morefield and Rob Marshall
What started as the story of three little girls (ex-LAPD meter maids,
filing clerks, phone operators - we are told) became a hit show
running five years, and was sold around the world by Aaron Spelling -
creator of 1970s' rather sexist phenomena of 'jiggle TV'.
It concerned private detective agency, Charles Townsend
Investigations, whose reclusive owner was never seen - but voiced by
actor John Forsythe, who issued assignments and instructions via
desktop speakerphone. John Bosley (David Doyle),
a comically grouchy, bumbling fall guy - as far as the action was
concerned, ran Charlie's office. There, our three beautiful heroines
got together to look serious and interested during episode intros, and
laugh about their adventures in closing scenes. The original line-up
for Charlie's Angels way back in 1976 was - Farrah Fawcett as Jill
Monroe, Jaclyn Smith as Kelly Garrett, Kate Jackson as Sabrina Duncan.
Fawcett was instantly famous as the all-American blonde poster girl
with a lion's mane of tumbling curls. Later, when she married Lee
Majors (star of The Six Million Dollar Man), her film and TV credits
were as Farrah Fawcett-Majors, but she reverted back to Fawcett after
they divorced. If you preferred brunettes, Smith was better looking
(with a very sexy voice, too) and, by the time Charlie's Angels was
eventually cancelled in the early 1980s, she was the only one of the
original stars still with the programme. Though, undoubtedly, the best
actress of this threesome, Jackson was the skinny but smart one with
an irritating vocal whine, and (it must be said) without the legs for
short skirts, so she wore the trouser suits.
Angels delight...
Despite having acquired a decidedly naff reputation, Charlie's Angels
was actually very popular indeed as family rated TV fare during its
first run - providing largely wholesome values and uncomplicated
action entertainment, throughout an era of hard-edged violence in The
Sweeney (1975-82), paramilitary gunplay in S.W.A.T. (1976), and macho
posturing of The Professionals (1977-83).
A regular feature of the show throughout its five seasons was
episode titles that, well... here's several examples - Angels In
Chains, Angels On Wheels, The Blue Angels, Angels In Paradise,
Unidentified Flying Angels, Angel Baby, Angels In The Backfield, Angel
On The Run, Angels In Vegas, Haunted Angels, Pom-Pom Angels, Angels
Belong In Heaven, Angels On Vacation, Counterfeit Angels, Disco
Angels, Marathon Angels, Angels In Waiting, Avenging Angel, Fallen
Angel, Caged Angel, Angels On Campus, Cruising Angels, One Of Our
Angels Is Missing, Catch A Falling Angel, Dancin' Angels, An Angel's
Trail, Angel In Hiding, Waikiki Angels, He Married An Angel, Chorus
Line Angels, Stuntwomen Angels, and Attack Angels...
See what we mean?
A typical assignment for the beautiful detectives involved
undercover work in designer clothes, catwalk gear or bikinis - and any
excuse would do for at least one swimsuit scene per episode (virtually
a contractual obligation!), while the ladies pretended to be tourists,
secretaries, reporters, press photographers, drivers, cocktail
waitresses, dancers, singers, models, strippers... or whatever
role-playing could get one or more of them into the most trouble with
bad guys in the shortest time frame. Guns were always a last resort
for Charlie's Angels, but they had their fair share of shootouts,
especially during rescues.
In 1977, new girl Cheryl Ladd replaced Fawcett-Majors on the show,
as Kris Monroe (Jill's sister), although Fawcett (whose character left
to be a racing driver!) returned later to guest star in a couple of
episodes. By 1979, tall model Shelley Hack took over from departed
Jackson (who left to start a family), playing debutante Tiffany
Welles, but she only lasted one season, and so redhead Tanya Roberts
was recruited as tough New York girl Julie Rogers to complete the new
trio. And it's this particular aspect - three girls with guns - that
most clearly refers to Charlie's Angels today. Have you ever really
noticed that whenever three young females (pop or TV stars, movie
starlets, models) are asked to stand together, they will almost
invariably strike that classic Angels' pose?
The Angels format continues to influence TV programming, even
today. Remington Steele (1983-84), with its initial premise of a
female investigator working for an unseen male boss, owed a
substantial debt to Charlie's Angels, while shows such as the blandly
innocuous BayWatch Nights (1995-97), and the blatantly derivative VIP
(1998) or Britain's own C.A.T.S. Eyes (1985-87), would certainly not
exist without the memorable example set by Charlie's heroines.
Michael Mak's Asian Charlie's Angels (2001) is pilot film for a TV
series starring Christy Chung as 'gutsy journalist' Chung, who teams
up with private investigators Cindy (Kelly Lin) - nominal leader,
Annabelle (Annie Wu) - martial arts expert, and Betty (Qu Ying) -
reportedly the smartest of this trio so, naturally, they made her a
computer hacker. It's supposedly about a serial killer who preys on
Asia's young, rich socialites, and promises fast-paced, glamorous
action. We haven't seen this, so no comment from us as to whether it's
better or worse than the lacklustre American cinema outing that was
directed by someone who calls himself simply 'McG'...
Charlie's Angels (2000) stars Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy
Liu - as Natalie, Dylan and Alex... All fine performers but,
unfortunately, wasted here - as this popcorn film is quite lacking in
hoped for gunplay department. Perhaps this is because co-producer
Barrymore decided early on that she wanted the heroines to practice
kung fu instead of shooting people? This may have been in imitation of
Teresa Woo's two 1995 Hong Kong action movies, Angels (aka: Iron
Angels) and Angels 2, which starred Moon Lee and Elaine Lui, and were
obviously inspired in part by the original Charlie's Angels. Perhaps
the US filmmakers will correct that unforgivable error - in time for
sequel, Charlie's Angels 2, due for release in 2003 (with the same
cast as McG's spin-off) to be a proper girls with guns movie!

Cameron, like many Hollywood types, is an emptyheaded sockpuppet who
wouldn't know what to say unless someone put a script in front of her.

No surprise that you get your information from them.

FEATURE/Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz Implore Voters to Go to the
Polls Tuesday for Gore/Lieberman

Statement of Leonardo DiCaprio
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--Nov. 5, 2000-- It is incumbent
on all Americans to vote their conscience next Tuesday. For me, there
is just one choice -- Vice President Al Gore. As an environmentalist
and chairman of Earth Day 2000, I met him several times, and after
reading his book ``Earth in the Balance,'' I became convinced that he
is deeply committed to improving the earth's total environment. Al
Gore's encompassing over-view makes him the best candidate to deal
with the complex global challenges of the future. The theme of Earth
Day 2000 addressed the problem of global warming, which I believe to
be the greatest threat to the future of our planet.

George W. Bush, as Governor of Texas, has given environmental concerns
the lowest priority. Although leading scientists throughout the world
agree that global warming is caused by the accumulation of greenhouse
gases emitted by automobiles, refineries, and manufacturing plants,
Bush maintained during the debates that ``the jury is still out'' on
the causes of global warming. He is relying on the advice of people
who are using big industry-funded ``junk science'' to form his
opinions rather than using the worldwide consensus of respected
scientific study. If Texas is Bush's example of having an
environmental conscience, it is an extremely poor model for the rest
of the country.

Please, I urge everyone, especially the first time voters, to think
about the environment of our future and vote for the Gore/Lieberman
team on Tuesday. Thank you.

Statement of Cameron Diaz

This election is the most important election that has come upon our
nation in recent history and will effect not only our current
economics but the planet we live on. I'm talking about the actual soil
from which we take our food, the water that gives every organism its
gift of life, the air that we...well, I am sure I don't have to tell
everyone how important oxygen is to our existence. But wouldn't it be
nice to have someone who actually cares about the quality of our one
intangible lifesource. We need someone who will not be swayed by big
business into compromising our environmental integrity. We cannot
ignore this issue. Nor can we ignore the fact that we are dangerously
close to losing the basis of our nation's greatness. The right to
choose. The right to have a choice. Having a choice is something we
cannot take for granted. This country was built on the fundamental
idea that all humans should have a right to choose. Our history shows
that it has been a great struggle to make that statement true. Why do
we want to move backwards? If we take away a woman's right to have
safe abortion, we are doing every American a disservice. If that right
can be taken away, what other rights are we endangering? We must trust
that the decision not to have a child is not a thoughtless one. That
the women and men who are faced with the decision will make the right
choice. It is our right inherently, the government protects that right
and I think it is insulting, degrading and violating for anyone to
tell a woman what she can do with her body. If there is any one reason
why a woman should vote, it should be to protect her body.

And for the future of our children, the only way to ensure that not
only our country, but our planet will be able to sustain their lives
and the lives of their children, is to educate. Why not strive to be
not just the strongest country, but the smartest? We must give every
child an education that they can use. One that equips them not only
academically, but gives them the ability to function as productive
members of society. Taking the federal government out of education
leaves education up to local means. Meaning the wealthy can take care
of the wealthy and the poor are still left without resources. It is
important that no child is left to fend for him or herself just
because they are not privileged enough to live in an affluent area. We
cannot make the quality of education an issue of class.

It is very difficult to state every concern in such a minimal amount
of space and time, but as election day is literally upon us, it is
clear that something must be done. I can only hope that by stating
these few concerns, I will reach others who care about these issues
and help them realize the importance of their vote. You absolutely
make a difference. You must find a way to go out and vote on Tuesday.
No matter what it takes. Vice President Al Gore has been an integral
part of the success of our nation for the past eight years. He has
proven himself on these issues. The environment has always been a
priority, he vows to defend the rights of women, and his concerns for
a valuable education are shown in his persistence to build and to
nurture our public schools. We need an experienced leader. We must
vote for the most qualified candidate, not for the guy you want to
have a beer with.

Betty: Cameron, can you tell us what you'll be thinking about when you
go into the voting booth to pick our next President?
Cameron: Yes. I will be thinking about our rights as women and our
environment. We want everyone to vote.
Lucy: We're not saying you have to vote for...
All: GORE!!!
Lucy: But you should just go out and vote.
Cameron: But voting for Gore is the best choice you can make at this
time. People don't think that their choice makes a difference.
Drew: They also think they'll always be protected and that's not true.
Lucy: God, we could possibly be really screwed if we don't pay
attention and wake up.
Cameron: But the issue is that there is a man out there [BUSH] that's
going to take the rights away from women and tap into our natural
resources.
Drew: But there are people out there that think "What do you crazy
Hollywood girls know?" We just have to vote at this election!

Betty: Okay! I'm going! I'm going!

http://www.reel.com/reel.asp?node=features/interviews/charliesangels/2

Q: Are we allowed to talk politics? Who will you be voting for?

DB, CD, LL: Gore!

Q: Why?

DB: Because he cares about the environment and he doesn't want to take
the rights away from not only women, but human beings. I was having
this insane conversation last night, and we were talking all day
yesterday telling every person that we interviewed with, to please
vote at the end of [the interview]. And really, in only maybe five out
of 80 interviews, did we say who we would vote for. When asked, of
course, we give our honest opinion. But everybody is entitled to their
opinion and that's what life is. You're all entitled to not like this
movie or like it, or to choose the president of your choice. But the
choice and the opinion itself are the coolest part about it. It's a
very interesting election time right now, and I think the world is
really going to change dramatically considering which man wins.

http://www.eonline.com/Features/Features/Charliesangels/Qa/interview2.html

Something Drew insisted on was that the Angels not use guns in the
movie. Point being?
Barrymore: What I wanted to do with the lack of guns was replace it
with so much fun--skydiving and speedboats and race cars and physical,
primal, sexy, amazing hand-to-hand combat, dancing, optimism--all of
these wonderful things.

I wanted women who were not afraid to go in and take on life with
their hands and who didn't believe in the cowardliness of flicking a
finger and you're dead. How stupid that is, how ridiculous. There is
nothing less powerful that you could possibly do in this world!
Diaz: If you look at kung fu, it's an art form. It's learning how to
kill someone with your hands. That, to me, is much more honorable. If
you study your entire life to learn how to hurt someone, from breaking
their fingernail to literally taking their head off, that, to me, is a
badass.
Liu: Imagine what international warfare would be like if everyone had
to put down their weapons and just fight knuckles to knuckles.

Sure, yeah, that could change the world. Have you let the presidential
candidates know about that idea?
In unison: Vote for Gore!

The UPS man always rings twice: Diaz's brief encounter.

Okay, enough political enlightenment. Was it difficult getting in
shape and learning all of these martial-arts moves?
In unison: Eight hours a day! Five days a week!

It is said that she's a real heartbreaker. She's now dating Jared Leto
(actor). Her last relationship with Matt Dillon lasted for two years.
As far as we know, Cameron broke up because Matt was foolin' around
with Mariah Carey. Altough they looked very happy at the start, now
Cameron wishes she never met him.
Before Dillon there was video producer Carlos de La Torre; their
relationship held strong for five years.
Further more my resources do tell me that she is really beautiful even
without the make-up, but that she also has a very weird laugh. It
seems to be a mixture between Beavis&Butthead and a air-raid-alarm...
About her beauty she claims that her mother and two of her friends are
more prettier than she (how modest). *And what about drugs? She's
very liberal on this subject: "It's all a matter of personal choice
and everybody reacts different on it. I haven't tried everything and I
would never start with heroine, but a good joint or XTC-pill can't
hurt." (VARA Magazine 1997/43)*
