Not doable. Your neighbour would have to not be around. Far better to bury
them in the desert, where it's dry and far from people.

Bury a couple in Ray, Oracle, Albert or Pim's yards too and be sure to report the
misdeeds of those ruffians <g>.

That I would love to see. Assume average 1/4 acre lot. Including in the
crawl space. Given old sewer lines, cast iron pipes, ect, ect, ect. Right
sure.

Excuse me, but drugs have a distinctive oder. So tell us all, how the metal
of a gun has a distinctive oder that is different from say, that of a 16
penny nail. So far as I was aware, steel smells like steel, smells like
steel. I would love to see a dog that could smell out the difference
between a gun hiden behind the wall, and the nails that hold that wall
together.
Why waste perfectly good guns on them? Give the feds an anonymous
tip that they have unregistered machineguns and a drug lab in their
basement. :)
The feds won't know it was a bogus tip, until they get through sifting
through the ashes (gives them time to come up with a story to cover
themselves). :)
P.S.
Who said anything about "good" guns. What about the $10 pieces of junk you've gotten
for gun buy backs that pay $50 with no questions asked.

They've also already heard all the excuses that someone would come up with for "those
aren't mine..." from the legit gun owners.

Don't have much imagination, do you?
If you happen to live on a farm, you can spread a layer of manure over
a sizeable area. Before doing so, bury some pieces of scrap (old
horseshoes, iron pipe, etc.) in several places. Imagine all the fun
of watching the feds dig up every piece of scrap (standing ankle deep
in sh**). Don't bury the guns there (why should you have to dig
through all that manure, just to get your guns?).

They don't smell guns, they smell the chemicals in the powder and
powder residue. They're called bomb sniffing dogs. Fire blanks in
every room in your house (the residue hangs around for a good while),
and the dog will be finding "gun" smells everywhere it goes.
> Running and hiding wont be a good option.

Those dogs would have epileptic seizures in my house, then. All those are soaked
into my reloading bench, in the vaccum cleaner, spent primers that bounced out of
the reloader that stuck into shoes. Clothing spilled with all of the above that
sat in the laundry hamper for a while or on the floor beside the hamper...

Or, just take used Hoppe's (with all the burnt powder, lead and copper traces) and
pour it into the corners of the house and have a wall cutout that holds the gun of
your choice in a wallpapered room. You'd know where it is and only a piece of
paper would be between you and it at any time. Muslin and paint make a good
painted wall look alike as well.

So then what you're telling us is that if we either clean off all of these,
or seal it so that they can't escape, then there will be nothing for the
dogs to track. I tell you what. Having cleaned numerous guns here, I doubt
if any dog is going to be able to locate anything since the whole place is
loaded with the scent. Opps, but then you didn't think of that, did you?
So tell us again, what scent they would trace. How do you tell the
difference between a positive result and the countless false results that
would occur in any the home that was ever occupied by a gun owner?

Nope, the idea that a dog could track the owners guns based on scent is
silly. Now I'm sure that it would work in places like the convention center
or such other public places were guns aren't normally found, since in those
places the oder would be distinctive, but to claim that would carry over
into homes that have been loaded with the scent and then to ask the dog to
locate a particular item out of that mess of identical scents, is well,
silly. It would be like asking a dog to locate the stash in a crack house.
The WHOLE place is a postive as far as the dog is concerned.

Oh, and what patch of the desert are you going to look in? Especially
sincethere are areas that already have iron deposits and thus would trigger MDs
anyway. And then there's the idea of burying stuff in a junk yard.

Hiding your guns in the walls is a bad idea. They are already working

Just bury your "booty" far from home, near or in a junk yard, in the middle of
a country dirt road, the possiblities are endless!
One man I heard of has a small handgun and ammo hidden in a indoor flower bed

the hotel, retreves his weapon, travels in safety in a VERY anti gun town, then
replaces same when he is ready to fly out again.(Ain't that a hoot!)

Not too often, but sometimes. However, I've cleaned my guns numerious times
here, IF guns were later outlawed the scent from that cleaning would
remain. It wouldn't be eliminated even if the guns were. The only way to be

Are they that stupid? Spending all that money to develop such a

of metal in a wall?
Besides, my entire house is encased in metal (aluminum, which would

I believe the topic is about millimeter wave radar. Your aluminium siding does not
work against that. Just reset the reflection to ignore the siding...
HerrGlock
Why go to all that trouble, when properly adjusted portable thermal
imaging devices (already developed and used for energy efficiency
evaluations) can easily detect a thermal variation from a metal object
inside a non-metal wall? Proper identification of that metal object
is another matter.

Bob,
If the feds ban it and start house to house, having a rifle won't stop an M1
tank. The smart thing to do is surrender the registered weapons, and
pull the unregistered weapons out of storage once the sweeps have passed.
Of course, you can use your own homemade antitank weapons to stop
tanks, but it would be a major PITA. Personally, I like Olin's RAAM grenade.

Yes, they are that stupid. The intention is to allow the police to have a handheld
radar gun to search walls, but also search suspects for weapons.

This presumes that they don't kick down your door and search INSIDE
the home. They'd have to do this, otherwise they can't see anything inside
a metal safe.

Thermal sights are something I have used regularly, so I do know about them.
Unfortunately, there are too many things that throw off thermal, if you heat your house
and have good insulation most everything will be about the same temp. Windows show up
well, but the house construction itself is beyond most of what's out there.
MMWR is very well developed, mostly for weather sensing but can be adapted for going
through layers of metal to see what's in the next layer. It's already caught the eye of
insurance claims people and body repair people to see exactly the extent of the damage
is on a car. It would be almost nothing to use the same thing on a home. They had a
stink about it last year and the 4th amendment, so it's already being developed to
"search" with supposedly non-intrusive techniques.
HerrGlock
I knew there were more advantages to building an earth-sheltered home
than the old energy efficiency and noise reduction claims.
