('ausrotten') Jews from German life if he ever came to power.
€ A few months after Hitler came into power Jewish-authored books and works
of art were publicly burned. Jewish shops were boycotted. Those Jewish
families who had the means, like Anne Frank's family in Frankfurt-am-Main,
saw the writing on the wall and emigrated. In 1935 the Nuremberg Laws were
passed, depriving Jews of their German citizenship and most civil rights,
and removing them from the German civil service. In November 1938 more than
90 Jews were murdered at random, more than 20,000 Jews were arrested,
hundreds of synagogues were burned, and thousands of Jewish-owned shops
were torched or trashed in a fit of anti-Semitic frenzy because a 17-year
old Polish Jew had shot a German diplomat in Paris. By this time the
Germans had a nice little racket going: Jews who wanted to emigrate had to
pay a hefty fee for the exit visa and hand over almost all of their
property to the Reich. This was especially painful for the many Jews who,
during the early years of Hitler's regime, had made the mistake of
emigrating to AustriaŠ A few years later it became even more painful for
the thousands of German Jews who had emigrated to Holland, Belgium,
Denmark, France, Czechoslovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia, all
countries eventually eventually occupied and vetted of Jews by the Nazis.
Hitler's anti-Semitism was the core that united the "gut issues". According
to him:
€ International Jewry was responsible for Germany's defeat in WW I.
€ International Jewry had profitted from Germany's defeat.
€ The Jews were responsible for the hyperinflation that followed WW I, and
they had amassed huge profits from it.
€ The Jews had hoarded food when Germans were going hungry after the war.
€ The Jews had created communism and tried to pull off a communist
revolution ion Germany.
€ The Jews infested lands that were righfully German.
€ The Jews were responsible for abstract art, atonal music, and smutty
literature.
€ The Jews were responsible for movies with mawkishly sentimental themes
that dulled the warlike Germanic spirit.
€ The Jews were responsible for introducing jazz music to Germany, and for
bringing Negroes to play it at German nightclubs, thus making some Germans
fond of the music of an inferior race and creating the possibility for
German women to mate with Negro men and defile the German race with mixed
race offspring.
€ The Jews monopolized professions like banking, medicine, law, and academia.
€ The Jews acquired money without working for it by charging interest.
€ The Jews were not loyal to the German nation, but only to fellow Jews.
€ The Jews made no effort to assimilate, but retained their specific racial
characteristics over the centuries by intermarrying.
€ The Jews were not above having some of their number infiltrate and
subvert the German nation by converting to Christianity and attempting to
blend in with the masses, thus establishing a cancerous beachhead within
the national body. For this reason the Nazis defined as a Jew anyone who
had had one Jewish grandparent, no matter how he or she related to Jews.
€ The Jews were over-represented in journalism, which they used as a
platform for pushing their own anti-German agenda.
€ The Jews competed unfairly with Germans by selling goods at lower profit
margins.
€ The Jews led a parasitic existence, sucking the blood of the German
nation, this being demonstrated by the fact that the Jews always became
richer, whenever Germans were becoming poorer.
All of these and many other complaints against the Jews can be found in
*Mein Kampf* and Hitler's speeches. One of his favorite words was *ein
Judenschwindel* "a Jewish swindel".
