Peace on Earth??? Aren’t humans amazing Animals? They kill wildlife -
birds, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice and
foxes by the million in order to protect their domestic animals and
their feed. Then they kill domestic animals by the billion and eat
them. This in turn kills people by the million, because eating all
those animals leads to degenerative - and fatal - - health conditions
like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer. So then humans
spend billions of dollars torturing and killing millions of more
animals to look for cures for these diseases. Elsewhere, millions of
other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because
food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals.
Meanwhile, few people recognize the absurdity of humans, who kill so
easily and violently, and once a year send out cards praying for
"Peace on Earth." ~Revised Preface to Old MacDonald’s Factory Farm by

ANKARA - Radikal
Parliament is preparing to take the initiative for animal rights.
Under a new legislative proposal, killing animals would be banned and
a budget created to help homeless and weak animals. Using animals for
gambling and entertainment purposes would be prohibited and animal
lovers who volunteer their services would be supported by the local
government
The scenes of torture from Kurban Bayram, the recent Feast of the
Sacrifice holiday, have prompted not only animal lovers but also the
government to take action.
The ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, is preparing to
extend the boundaries of animal rights by removing the authority of
municipalities to decide whether to kill or protect homeless animals.
AKP Eskişehir deputy Nedim Öztürk has prepared a law expanding animal
rights in collaboration with nongovernmental organizations and is
planning to present his proposal to the Parliament Speaker’s Office in
the coming days. The proposal aims at deterrence and covers crimes
against the natural habitats of animals. The proposed regulations are
listed here:
Budget to protect homeless animals
The definition of weak animals would be extended to protect homeless
animals that lose their physical abilities due to old age, mutilation
or sickness, apart from contagious or epidemic diseases. With the
consent of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, first local
governments, and then other related institutions would receive
financial support to establish nurseries and veterinary clinics for
weak and homeless animals and to conduct maintenance, rehabilitation,
vaccination and neutering services.
Support for volunteers
People who protect homeless and weak animals without seeking financial
profit and while acting with conscientious and humanitarian aims would
be encouraged and their efforts to protect, shelter, maintain,
vaccinate and neuter animals would be supported.
Neutering is an exception
Operating on animals to change their appearance for reasons unrelated
to medical treatment, including mutilation of tail or ears, removal of
vocal cords and tooth or nail extraction, would be prohibited.
Homeless animals, however, can be painlessly neutered if their
physical situation or age are found appropriate for the procedure by
the veterinarian. The procedure is an exception to the existing law.
Financial profit is prohibited
Exploiting animals for gambling and entertainment purposes, earning a
profit from these activities or instigating other people to engage in
such activities would be prohibited.
Killing is prohibited
Treating animals brutally, torturing or beating them, depriving them
of food and water, exposing them to extreme hot or cold, poisoning
them or killing them in an improper way, neglecting their maintenance
and persecuting them physically or psychologically would be
prohibited. Through these regulations, “the killing and poisoning
methods” of the police and the municipalities would also be forbidden.
Double penalty for public officers for violations
People who violate the new regulations on animal protection would be
penalized twofold if they are working for a public office at the time.
Fines would range from 200 to 6,000 Turkish Liras, but would be
doubled for public officers.
