The book is "so-so," but not all that enjoyable because it spent
too much time in pointless conjecture--- can humans change their
futures after they have seen it? This is an argument against time
shifting, not free will, but the author can be excused. :-) It is
fiction afterall.

Ehh, I don't really see a pattern there as much as an arbitrary
labeling of numbers.
I haven't watched the show, but I think I am familiar with the
premise: Everyone in the world blacks out for 137 seconds and has a
vision of themselves 6 months in the future. They come round to find
that buildings etc. have inextricably blown up, because everyone knows
that the only thing stopping them from blowing up is the sheer number
of conscious human beings around at any one time.
One thing that all of humanity completely fails to see in their "flash
forward's" is their future selves exclaiming: "Oh my deity! Does
anyone else have a really strong sense of Deja Vu?... Hold on! This is
what I saw 6 months ago when all those buildings blew up for no reason
while the whole planet had that 2 minute cat-nap, how very odd!".
Its smacks of "Lost" to me - IE a random, rambling story arc that goes
nowhere and probably changes weekly on the whim of the producers
dachshund.
Am I right, or have I got this show mixed up with some other couch-
potato fodder?

I've been watching the show. I'm not aware of any buildings that
blew up for no reason. There were a couple of buildings that were
on fire because helicopters crashed into them. All planes that were
flying at the time crashed. There were many car accidents. But, the
only thing I remember that made no sense so far, given the
blackout, was that shortly after awakening, the main character
wandered through Los Angeles and saw a kangaroo hop by. In a later
episode, he saw another (or perhaps the same) kangaroo hopping down
the street. I assume they'll explain that at some point.

So far, I don't think this show is at all like lost. Of course
there is alot that is unexplained, but the show seems to be moving
in the direction of explaining what happened.
I agree with your criticism of Lost. I had really wanted to like
that show, but nothing ever seemed to get explained. Instead there
were just more and more weird things happening. I gave up on that
show before last season.
