(for creationists).

1. If God existed forever what was he doing for that eternity before he
created "the word". He was all by himself after all for what is essentially
eternity. Did he have a plan way back to create the universe but just didn't
feel up to it yet? Man what a boring existence that must have been.

2. Why is everything in this universe finite? Why make things (eg: suns)
that will eventually cease to exist? Is that not proof that all things are
meant to be finite (ourselves included)?

3. Creationists always point to the fact of the man makes things analagy
therefore a man type of god must have made everything that is natural. How
did god make something out of nothing? We at leat combine things..he cannot
do that when there is nothing. Why make it so we have to eat? I mean if we
do not we die. Seems like an unnecessary dependency does it not? Not to
mention breathing, shitting etc. So many people die due to these
dependencies! Why not make our skin harder so sharp objects cannot
penetrate it and kill us (knives, bullets etc).

4. With #3 in mind. What is the point of existence on planet earth? Is it
just for a morality test? If so why do we have children die of cancer or
some other means..i mean they weren't exactly given time to do the test were
they? Why have all these potential ostacles to "the test?" Create viruses
and other pathogens...terrible ways to die such as cancer. Hell we cannot
even go out into the woods and eat whatever plants are there as we may die
from it? Why is he trying to prevent us from doing the test which is the
ultimate reason we are here (besides praising him but that is another
issue)?

5. In genesis the FIRST creation order shows vegetation was created before
the luminaries were (mind you the moon is not a luminary btw..its reflective
light). Did vegetation grow without photosynthesis?

6. Why would God irresponsibly choose one people because Abraham was such a
nice guy and neglect everyone else? Isn't that negligence?

7. Religious people always talk about the need of religion otherwise we have
no moral and ethical guideposts. But as far as I can tell God's morality is
not universal but based on his whims..which means its also "relative" in a
sense. He changes his mind (old vs new testament) and hence has no real
conernstone of morality or archetype of goodness. Also it seems that the
highest morality is onces "Acceptance of Christ". All other morality
(stealing, murder, genocide) are subordinate to this?

8. Why does Jesus come and say he came to fulfill the law and then 20 years
later Paul states the law is unnecessary? Did god not see that coming?

9. For old earth creationists. Why does it take longer than 6 days to create
the universe. Does he need to plan? Do things carefully? Does he have limits
that make him take longer period of time?

10. For young earth creationists. Why does it take 6 whole days? Why not 6
seconds? Or 6 miliseconds? Why so slow? Limits?

11. Why let billions of humans suffer for the sins of adam and eve? Why
does jesus die for our sins..should we not take responsibility for our own
actions?

12. Why doesn;t god just come down right now..arrive in front of the UN, do
a few magic tricks to prove he is who is he (on live tv..CNN perhaps) and
then say he is here to help. Why hide and then after death either reward or
penalize us? Why do we need faith (belief in absense of evidence) in him to
survive? Why are people murdered or sent to hell based on their
philosophy..not their actions?

13. Most important question. If you believe that gods punishment is
righteous for differences in philosophy what does that say about you as a
human being?

The usual line is "God works in mysterious ways." Most religions
aren't something that a person would ever arrive at logically from
observing the world, but a cultural thing they believe in spite of
logic.

These are not "puzzling and general" questions. You are trying to make
an atheistic point that 1) There is no God and 2) If there is a God he
is an unfair, unjust and dumb God.

If you should ever come to the point in your life that you want to
make a serious inquire to your questions, then maybe you will find
serious answers.'

The traditional answer as to what god was doing before the creation of
the universe was making up punishments for people who ask smart-ass
questions. :)

Wouldn't this be more appropriate for a religious newsgroup?

And the questions make such a good point that you cannot answer _any_
of them?

Why is it that when people look at the stories in the bible
critically, instead of just blindly accepting what they are told, that
these kinds of questions invariably show up?

I had a similar one when I was eight or so: once everybody got off the Ark,
wouldn't the predators start eating the pairs of prey animals and making
them extinct? (I imagined the only two lions chowing down on one of the
only two antelope, specifically.) I think I asked it in Sunday School but
since we were Methodists at the time, I didn't get in trouble.

There is one question that is very much on topic for this newsgroup.
If there is a creator god, why would he make the world an illusion?
E.g. if Adam and Eve were our ancestors, why does it look like we are

from a common ancestor with all life before that?

Why should we reject the evidence of our senses?

If we *do reject the evidence of our senses, why should we accept your

This may seem like several questions, but it is really one: why should
we reject scientific methodology?

He is making serious inquiries, you are just clearly incapable of
answering them. The questions aren't mocking or sarcastic, they aren't
funny, but are very much poignant and relevant.

You are so transparent, ASI. So totally predictable and empty. That
you would dismiss such a list of questions as you do without so much
as a hint of a response on any of them is very revealing of your
position indeed.

Aren't cosmologists a religious group...I mean, it's really a "cosmic religion", based on
The Origins..talk.origins.

And to answer the first question, He was building a Hell.

It's in the bible, isn't it? I know some girl before Eve was having a lot of babies with Adam that were demons...
so..I guess God had a Hell for her kids...Lilith was her name..
so Hell had to come before Heaven.

So, the good book should read, In the begginning, God created Hell...then he created the Heavens and Earth.

(but then cosmologists would called Hell the Big Bang..)

The universe was created according to your desire to be independent from
God. That is why you have to take full responsibility for everything. It
was your choice to reject the real God and try to usurp His position.
Unfortunately, since you are not God, and cannot become God, you are
failing in every respect. Thus you have disease, old age, death and all
the other problems of material existence. When you stop blaming God for
what was your own mistake, then you can begin to return things to their
normal, eternal state, full of knowledge and bliss.

if the existence of god can be disproven by some fairly
straightforward, simple questions, then why bother with serious'

It's really a case of the hardcore unemployed. It takes them
forever to get a job, and once they do, they quit after the first
week, and don't do anything but make trouble after that.

You need to look up the term "collateral damage".

Apparently you have never had a steady girlfriend. Mine can make
something out of nothing and not let go of it for a week, and
it's hell to pay at the end. God seems to operate pretty much
the same way.

It took him a couple of passes. Give the guy a break. He's
one of the hardcore unemployed, remember from #1.

Oh, come on. Abraham obviously was tremendously fun
to torment. Promise the guy a kid forever, and then just when
he get's one, tell Abe that he has to sacrifice the kid. Then
send an angel-lacky to say that it was all a joke. It may have
taken God 6 days to make the universe, but it may take forever
before He get's the kinks out of his sense of humor. You
saw what he did to that Job guy.

You think what he did to Abram was cruel, well, being the Son of God
apparently is no picnic either.

Obviously, the law was unnecessary after it was fullfilled. But
that doesn't mean you get out of paying your taxes.

The hardcore unemployed often have difficulty with time management.
You give them eternity, and they will screw around for most of
that, and then do six all nighters and still take the day off on
Sunday.

Well, somebody has to pay for the fruit tree. Haven't you heard
of the "deep pockets" rule of civil law? Don't sue the irresponsible
but poor drunk who ran you over, go for the bar, because they have
the dough. Adam and Eve didn't even have clothes, for pete's sake.

Why do t.v. news magazine shows always have the spicy lead
story at the end of the show? It's so you will stay through the
commercials. Come for the original sin, stay for the damnation.

When I was born again at nine, I thought these were religious
mysteries that would be revealed to me as I got older, or perhaps
after I died. Unfortunately, as I got older they just seemed sillier.
This was enhanced by demonstrably false things the adults around me
were saying. If the pastor's son-in-law said men had one less rib then
women do (on the let side, because that's where the heart is), then
were his other claims sublime mysteries, or just the stupid
inconsistencies that they seemed to be?

By the time I was thirteen, I figured that *all adults were insane. I
was much relieved later to discover that some of them were instead
jazz musicians, or scientists.

where does god tell us this? it's a meaningless statement

Not so much (speaking about the scientists) as not being insane, but
at least a more interesting grade of insanity.

I'm especially interested in hearing Ben Stein's answer to that one.
And Michael Medved's, and David Klinghoffers. And of course Harun
Yahya's.

Actually millions of "evolutionists" have much the same answers to
that as creationists.

In fact, while they'll never admit it, most creationists do not think
faith is enough. They desperately crave evidence of God. If not for
themselves, for the "masses" they see as going astray. So they reduce
God to this pathetic character who hides in "gaps" and brag of being
the ones who caught Him red-handed.

The usual answer is that God exists out of time. He created
time, but exists independently of it.

However, I think there is a problem with this answer. Consider
this idea from God's point of view: Once He creates the universe
and all that exists in it, He is instantly aware of the entire history
of His creation. After all, He exists outside of time, right?

But the notion of eternal bliss implies that we, when we get to
Heaven, will continue to exist forever. That is, we will exist in
time with God. Oops! God doesn't exist in time. Back to the
drawing board.

So we are left with a somewhat paradoxical view of God's
creation. Time must have had a start (else Vanman's argument
cannot be answered), but will have no end (else what is this
idea of eternal bliss?).

If the Christian mythology is to be taken seriously, then we must
posit that God created time so that He could "step into" time and
then create the universe in which He could lay down all these
commandments in order to separate the saved from the damned,
thus determining who would spend eternity with Him.

Conclusion: The idea that God created time and is not bound by
it is just not tenable, at least not within the Christian mythology.

Same goes double for jazz musicians.

Wait, are you saying that God created the universe according to
*Vanman's* desire to be independent from Him? And that Vanman is
responsible for disease, old age, death (which ~99% of science-
literate theists will tell you existed for billions of years before H.
sapiens came along)?

Well I don't blame God for anything, but it looks like I better watch
what I say or do around Vanman. ;-)
