What would you spend them on?

n1 = Spirituality.
n2 = Intelligence.
n3 = Social skills.
n4 = Happiness.

That depends on what casino. Most of the casinos on the Strip have farily
crappy odds, but some of the Downtown places are pretty good. I'd
probably put some on the pass line, and hope for a good shooter.

This reminds me of the guy who found a genie in a bottle. The genie
could either make him the richest man who ever lived or the wisest man
who ever lived. The man chose wisdom. His first thought was the
realization that he made the wrong choice.

Funny, I thought just the other way round. I go 100% for happiness,
under the assumption that to be happy, you need at least lots and lots
of 2 and 3 anyway, so you get hem in a "buy one get two free package"
and you get lots of other goodies into the bargain, such as ""good
birth, good children, and beauty".

Since, despite the wishful thinking of the envious, intelligence is
how you _attain_ social skills and you use both of those to attain
happiness, I will take intelligence. Intelligent people without social
skills have no social skills because they choose not to have them.
Stupid people can, some of them, be charming in some situations but
they never attain any real social skills. I don't think you use the
same kind of chips to purchase spirituality, so it isn't on this
menu.

<nitpic> You _can't_ bet with the house. You can bet against the
shooter but you still don't get the house's end of the action. I
forget why but I think one of the rolls that loses for the shooter
loses for you also. So you only have a somewhat smaller Negative
Expected Value than the shooter or those who bet with the shooter.
Guys who play craps always say it has the best odds for the player and
then they make "hard way" bets and "field" bets that are as bad as
roulette.

I've played craps on line where I didn't risk any real money, and I've
played real games in casinos in Vegas.

When I've played craps for real money in Vegas, I played lowest bet limits I
could find. ($3 per bet) I don't try the hardway or field bets, as they are
pretty much sucker bets. I play the pass line, and the odds, where the
chances of winning are best. I usually don't make much, but I usually come
out ahead.

I've played roulette a few times, but I only bet on the outside thirds, and
bet two of the three, so the odds of winning something are 2/3. If I win, I
get out when I'm ahead, before the laws of chance catch up.

In Vegas terms I'm a piker.

It mainly shows that I have read Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, where
he names these three as goods that can give you Eudamonia or
happiness, (279a-c), provided you also have intelligence, and whose
absence can destroy it. Someone here must uphold standards, after
all.

I think he's saying if you're smart and have social skills you'll be
happy. I think you could construct scenarios where this wouldn't be
true. So I'd split the happiness/social skills bet. But then I'm a

Strange, since you claim loads of 2, great steaming piles of 1, and
yet seem to have no 3 and a debatable amount of 4. In the casino of

you're annoying all the other patrons by pontificating on the meaning
of liff from your bar stool.

I never go to a casino except to the poker room. However, I used to
ride a bus to Foxwoods and they gave you free play tickets and long
before that I made some decent money counting cards at Blackjack. When
I got those free play tickets I played craps because I wasn't going to
sit at the Blackjack table for any length of time. So I looked up the
numbers for playing "with the house" and it is clear that you can't
really do that. Nick the Greek said that betting against the shooter
got you a tiny fraction of one percent less disadvantage and advised
doing it if you didn't mind everyone at the table hating you. It never
bothered me.

Hey, if they wanted to get rich or even keep their money, they wouldn't
be gambling at a casino, now would they. There are some games that have
winning stratgies for the player, but the house always wants to stamp
them out, even though the house would make even more money by allowing
them. "Jane Roe won a million dollars at blackjack", would bring the
suckers in, they'd scarf up a few free drinks and lose their shirts.

I know middle-level casino executives who say they make _exactly_ that
argument about dealing with Blackjack counters. But the old guard just
can't _stand_ being the marks, even if it brings them in many more
victims, I mean customers. But none of them mind winning poker players
because the winners make their money from the losers and the house
gets its rake every time.

I'd prefer a more practical vehicle, like a 2CV. More fun, too.

The ferrari guy has 2 hands behind his back.

He says "in one hand the can you seek isn't there, in the other a can
you don't want is".

You choose his right, (And Win).

He gives you his can of 10W40.

The Stardust casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, used to have two
Blackjack machines that made card counting easy--- they had one
"deck" in them. I used the Zen system, using my fingers as an
abacus, to fill a gallon pickle jar with quarters. One could let
the wager "ride" up to $20, after which the machine would spit out
$40 on a win. Along the way I explained to my brother what I was
doing and why, until three very violent-looking men got standing
behind me and examined every twitch I made. My brother and I went
for lunch (taking turns carrying the jar of quarters), and when we
came back the machines were gone.

Casinos are no fun these days.

Do you really want to go there, asshole? Who was it that whined about
being teased because he was dyslexic? For instance, above you worte a
word, "nonethe" Is that a new word? What was it that guy said a
couple of thousand years ago, something about "he who is without sin
may cast the first stone"?. Then there was that other guy who said
"people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks".

You want to play that game, I'm up to it. We can waste a lot of band-
width on spelling mistakes. All it will prove is that neither one of
us can spell worth shit. Of course, the difference is, I usually
don't bother with spelling mistakes made by others, since I know I
misspell words, frequently. You, on the other hand, are an arrogant
ass, and feel the need to point out other's spelling mistakes in order
to compensate for the battering your ego takes when your other
bullshit blows up in your face..

That argument is simple psychology combined with mathematics. Art
Linkletter had a long running show called "People Are Funny" about Money
was perhaps a part of the show.

Ah, the marks are not victims, they go to casinos to lose and get rid of
excess money, which would otherwise make them change their life. A
casino is perhaps the only place where if you act like an idiot you will
be treated with the upmost of respect, but thrown out if it looks like
you know what you are doing. Then there are those that come for
entertainment, having decided how much they are going to lose and stop
when they reach the limit.

I assure you that casino management, at least the old-school types,
regard them as marks and victims. This attitude is what sparked the
overreaction to card counting in blackjack. The roles were reversed
and the casino guys couldn't stand it. They were very casual about
someone getting lucky and winning a huge score, for reasons you
mentioned in an earlier post. However, people actually getting a _plus
position_ against them made them the suckers and it infuriated them.

Nah, that's just what the barrel making industry wants you to believe.
