alt.atheism atheist list
Michelle Malkin
We are drawing closer to the unofficial end of the list. I say unofficial, since
I intend to continue the list for as long as people want it. Anyone from any of
the newsgroups listed on the newsgroups line is welcome to join this list. The
only requirement is that you are an atheist (strong or weak) or an agnostic and
have posted or lurked fairly regularly in any of these newsgroups. Since many
people from all these newsgroups cross-post to the others, I'm not limiting this
to only alt.atheism.
The list needs only six more names to reach three hundred. I'd like to see it
reach this total by Monday. Anyone who has been putting off writing in to join
the list, now is the time. And, many thanks to all those who have already
joined. Many people have been truly surprised by the number of people who have
joined already. There are a lot more atheists and agnostics in these newsgroups
than many people ever suspected.

Come to think of it - I never did get a number. Now it is possible that
you have already placed me on the list from my previous posts. If that is
the case I would like to know my number. If it is not the case I am
hoping that you'll hold off numbering me until you get to 300. I am not
sure why that is - it has something to do with my ego.
If the numbering is completely arbuitrary I would like 666, only to scare
Saved Soul, who claimed that I was the antichrist. 69 is a good number,
for personal reasons, I am sure you wouldn't understand. Either way I
humbly request my place among the heathens of the net.

I would like to congratulate everyone who responded to Mickey's list,
I am impressed with the sense of community. I was not surprised to
see you hit 300 and if Mickey is willing to keep counting, you will
probably hit 500 by the end of the year. Maybe we could keep track
of it like the DJIA, but I'm not much of a betting man.
Anyway, I just wanted to offer you all a congratulatory slap on the
back. Anytime someone reaches a goal, we should all be willing to
say, good job.

I am a moderate Atheist although I occasionally call myself Agnostic
depending on the person I am talking to. Some people really freak out when I
say Atheist so I call myself Agnostic. Most times they do not know what an
Agnostic is thus giving me a few minutes of confusion them before they judge
me. We all love word games.

so I don't know exactly what this list is. (I'm sure that the
Internet violates causality in a big way!!). Is this supposed
to be a list of atheists posting to a.a? Well, I read talk.origins,

so does that count? If so, count me in.

Michelle, Scott is, by any definition, a fundamentalist, BTW. Given
his posting habits on t.o, I'm not even sure if _I_ would even put him

The list started out in alt.atheism as a reaction to a fundy who said that there
were only three atheists in the newsgroup, since they were all that responded to
him - totally missing the point with true fundy finesse (sarcasm intentional.)
When someone suggested starting this list, I said that I would do it.
The list is open to all atheists (including agnostics) from any newsgroup on the
net. It started in alt.atheism, spread to the above listed groups and now has
been opened to all atheists and agnostics who post or lurk on the net.
The count is currently 325.
Welcome to the alt.atheism atheist list, #326.
Anyone who wants to join the list, please give your name or nickname, whether
you are a strong or weak atheist or agnostic and your home newsgroup.
This list may have started as a bit of a joke, but it has grown into a true
bonding experience for many of us. There is no reason why individual atheists or
agnostics should feel alone when there are so many of us all over the place.

unless you can verify it. I'm afraid you can't verify a single individual
on this newsgroup.
I know that you want people to believe so much that atheism commands the
thoughts of a lot of people that you spent time to construct this list.

very good job. On numerous occassions I have discovered fallacies,
logical error , mistaken assumptions, factual errors and the like.
I'm afraid that you are mistaken in thinking that a list construct has
any validity at all. Since you cannot verify any individuals, what gives
you the right to believe it is not a vanity account? You're acting solely

Spent some time on DejaNews, can't find any such admissions. There have
been, appearantly, quite a few forged posts - spoofing both sides, usually
quite viciously - but nothing I could call a forged post to bolster the
athiest count, not by any stretch of the immagination.

I know of no computers that believe in God. I think the reason is that
they have been made by the devil in an attempt to corrupt mankind.

The list is just one way for atheists to know that we are not alone. Several
lurkers have started posting in alt.atheism since the list began, and they are
bringing new life to the group. I hope that more join in as the list increases.
As far as atheism is concerned, there is nothing to advertise. Becoming an
atheist is something that an individual has to do on their own. They can get
information from people, books, etc., but the final decision is one that has to
be made alone.
There is also a friends list for deists or theists who support our right to
believe or disbelieve as we choose. And, we support their right to do the same.
And, there is a killfile list of theists who came to alt.atheism purely for the
purpose of 'converting the heathen'. Such invaders always fail in their mission
and most just fade away. But, there is a small group of them that refuse to
leave and only remain to act in the most obnoxious ways they can. This last
small group goes into the killfile list. They are also called twits.
Any theist or diest who comes to alt.atheism for the purpose of discussion and
debate is welcome. Several have become regular members of the group. Some of
them go after the invaders just as strongly as we atheists do.

posting from. Please direct questions about the list only to alt.atheism.
