Thank you. *227# tells me that anonymous calls are now blocked, but it
doesn't lift the block nor tell me how to lift it. 1478 and 1479 seem
to work, despite not being mentioned in Branson's Breakdowns Book of
Stuff that Doesn't Work.

As I just posted in a separate story, you forget that before they let
Branson loose on the phone network, you could dial 100 and make
contact with a competent and knowledgeable human being within a couple
of seconds. For those too young to remember, this is not an
exaggeration: the technology was less reliable than it is now, but the
service was a great deal better than Branson is capable of providing.
Today after 45 minutes of holding on the phone and clicking things on
Branson's website I had not spoken to a human being. Branson is a
menace. They should nationalise the phones without compensation
tomorrow. Just as, before they let Branson loose on the railway
network, you could turn up at your local railway station and be
conveyed to your destination on a train, not a bus. They should
nationalise the railways without compensation tomorrow as well.

Hint to anyone responsible for customer relations at Branson's
Breakdowns: When your customers start establishing Usenet groups so
that they can ask each other how the phones work, resign. You know you
aren't doing your job. Do not wait to be sacked, because Branson
thinks there's nothing wrong so he probably won't sack you.

In that case:

*227# switches on
#227# switches off
*#227# advises whether on or off

*227# appears to work
#227# appears to work
*#227# "The service you require cannot be connected"
