Hello John

Someone told me there is a new Aki Kaurismaki film , Fallen Leaves, out this year. I thought he had stopped making films so I was delighted to see this. Any chance of getting it. Happy to introduce as I love his films.

Hi Steve,

there's no release date as yet. A new trailer appeared online although it doesn't feature English subtitles.

Fingers crossed it'll be out for Film Club at the end of the year. Hopefully we'll have films by Kore-eda,  Joanna Hogg and Kelly Reichardt's new film too. Films pencilled in include Ken Loach's The Old Oak, Past Lives, Dune Part II (maybe dependent on how long it is?), and sci-fi The Creator (from Gareth Edwards who made Monsters, a Film Club film way back in 2011).

Cheers,

John

Hello
That all sounds great. Pencil me in for the Kelly Reichardt. Seen and loved all her films.

Hi John
It looks like a great list so far!
Connor has asked if he could introduce 'Past Lives' please?
He's also putting in a request for the Korean film 'Cobweb', which he'd also like to introduce.
Thank you
Julie

There is a new Patricio Guzman film out as well "My Imaginary Country" which might be interesting. I have enjoyed his other films very much

Hi all,

there are way too many great films coming out. Hopefully we entice the Anne and Alec back with some sci-fi and Korean and / or Japanese films!

One potential Monday film that we thought of holding over (but now aren't) is Eight Mountains, it's coming to the RBC in June. 5 stars in the Grauniad (sic) The Eight Mountains review – a movie with air in its lungs and love in its heart | Film | The Guardian it's coming here on 14th June.

We're hoping to get Nuri Bilge Ceylan's new film About Dry Grasses later in the year. However, too long for a Monday as it's 197 minutes long. We did show his Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (on a Monday too and it was only 2 hours 27 mins long!) and his subsequent films - Winter Sleep and The Wild Pear Tree, both over 3 hours and both slow burners. They're on MUBI and well worth watching.

Sorry I couldn't make the film last night, I have yet another cold / chest infection. I ended up watching Night Moves which was a great contrast to last week's film, same idea, young activists intend to blow up, in this case, a dam and we follow the fall-out from that. Reading up about it I'd forgotten how similar the plot was to The Monkey Wrench Gang by the brilliant writer Edward Abbey.

Cheers,

John

Hello John

You missed an absolute corker imo anyway. Suggest you seek it out. Glad you liked Night moves ,I think Kelly Reichardt can do no wrong, thus far anyway.

It was a very moving, thought-provoking film, my favourite this season - I am still processing it and thinking about the ending (no spoilers, so won't say any more).
I meant to say last night that I thought the music and sound effects were great and also to mention that the large group of cows in the field who were looking not so well (again, no spoilers) were CG'd.
I think the director will go on to do more great films.
