Depending on the source of an image, the file could be quite large. A JPG from a professional DSLR camera, for example, could be dozens of megabytes. Depending on your needs, this could be too big. Compressing this image would be very useful.

Likewise, you might have large images on your phone. These images could be taking up a lot of hard drive space and preventing you from taking more photos. Compressing them could free up more internal storage, fixing this problem.

Our tool uses lossy compression to shrink down image files. It supports three file types: PNG, JPG/JPEG, and GIF. This system intelligently analyzes uploaded images and reduces them to the smallest possible file size without negatively affecting the overall quality.

I was hoping I could simply add an event - before sending the images - from the image compressor that would convert said images to a new list (perhaps a custom state) that could be used by the export pdf plugin.

I have implemented your plugin to load multiple images. I need to store the Base64 in the database. However, when multiple images are uploaded, the Base64 encoding for each image is stored in the same thing and separated by commas. Is this the intended function? If so, how do i separate them to show in a repeating group?

Another alternative could be to seperate where the images get saved from where the notes are saved. Then the notes could be pushed to github, while the images are just backed up to e.g. gdrive/onedrive/dropbox

Keep in mind that Imgur deletes un-viewed images after 6 months. I have lost multiple images that were hosted on Imgur over the last 10 years. I will never use their service anymore unless it is for a temporary image share.

Very cool, and very slick demo to go with it. How many tokens does it cost just to decode and display the image? Even with the 3 second delay, this would be perfect for displaying awesome full-color title screens that don't take up any tile or graphics space. I might (re: definitely will) use this in my upcoming project!

Since my compressor looks for matching bytes, I suspect any logo screens that are custom-made, that is, not a conversion of a 24-bit or 256-color picture, but a true image doodled by the gamewriter themselves using the 16-colors for text/borders and other images and designed to fit within the 128x128 pixel screen - I suspect that will compress remarkably well.

So i made it a whole lot faster by switching all the packing to bit arithmetic and fixing the output length issue. So the image loads from the string just about as instantly as you could hope for, there is no pause at all.

Also, I have updated my compressor (links above). Once I finish working on my game I was going to get back here and convert it to proper _INIT(), _DRAW, and _UPDATE(), and compare it (for space used) with outright hex data.

I'm searching best tool to compress images (png and jpeg) via command line.
After googling I found trimage which is good as it compresses both png and jepeg, but compression ratio is very poor in this case.

To quote what I said in another thread, when you upload an image to Squarespace, the platform does some resizing which necessitates re-encoding and re-compressing. If you compress an image before uploading it, the mandatory re-compressing will usually result in a larger file size because the algorithm won't know the difference between "actual image content" and "artifacts of the previous compression run".

Checked out your gallery, and it looks fantastic! About the image compression, it's a common concern. Squarespace does apply some compression, but it's a good idea to compress before uploading for optimal performance. JPEG Optimizer is a solid tool for that. Personally, I think a little compress image beforehand helps maintain a good balance between quality and load time. It's like finding that sweet spot! Your slideshow is super smooth though, kudos! If you ever want to share tips or experiences, I'm all ears.

Short explanation: large images are resized/recompressed on your device (via javascript) before they are sent to Discourse.

Edit: I dropped composer media optimization image bytes optimization threshold from the default of 524288 to 200000. I noticed, uploading a basic .png file at 1220px @ 414kb only resulted in a file size of 406kb. By reducing the setting above to 200000, the file size was reduced from 414kb to 201kb. The resolution was unchanged.

I'm streaming RGB video from an OAK-D PoE to run an object detector on a GPU, and I'm having some image quality issues. I hope somebody here can shed some light on this for me. We are currently using a different camera for detection. I want to move to the OAK-D, but am having problems with fine scale image texture. Our networks respond strongly to texture, so we have to be careful with image pre-processing.

This is an example OAK-D image of the same scene taken at the same time. This was streamed from the camera as H265 video and extracted as PNG. If you zoom in 3x to 5x, you can see that image looks filtered or compressed. We've seen similar things with JPEG compression, and it has caused problems for our network. However, there are so many things to recommend the OAK-D that I want to see if this problem can be solved.

I believe this is caused by the VideoEncoder when compressing the image. Regarding the ColorCamera and ISP - it's mostly just different frame types (isp=YUV420 / video,still = NV12 / preview=RGB) and sizes, so cropping is applied, so these outputs don't have any additional artifacts. One option would also be lossless JPEG encoding, which preserves about 40% of bandwidth and is, well, lossless, so there won't be any encoding artifacts. Thoughts?

I've tried the different image modes (uncompressed, lossless JPEG) but still see the same artifacts. I also experimented with acquiring a raw image, and the artifacts are not present there. Sample images are attached below. I am showing luminance only because I am interested in texture, not color.

From the color camera documentation, the uncompressed image is processed through the ISP and then the Image Post Processing module. The raw image, on the other hand, is not. When you look at the images as a whole, the processed image is more pleasing. However, the application to which we wish to apply this sensor is a rock detection algorithm, which relies upon the fine scale texture.

The differences among the image types in the RGB image pipeline typically involve various processing stages, including compression and filtering. The artifacts you're observing could indeed be applied during the "Image Post-Processing" module.

I saw the same issues with pixelation when testing out your image, and our team is looking into some other examples of this so your images are helpful for our testing. I'll keep you posted on this here as I have more info to share.

As a more general FYI, I did want to make sure you had our best practices for working with images and other media in Rise. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll share an update here as soon as I can!

Is there any news regarding when this might be solved? We are also experiencing pixelated images, even when uploading images we've used in previous courses that looked great there but now looks horrible when we upload them again. A workaround is a lot of extra work (that obviously shouldn't be needed).

For what it's worth, I've been creating chart images for a module that I'm working on. Originally, the charts were designed in Illustrator and were exported as PNGs. After importing them into Rise, I noticed the big drop in image quality. I have been doing graphic work before using Inkscape and couldn't recall seeing a similar issue, so I exported an SVG from Illustrator, opened it in Inkscape and exported it as a PNG. While there was a bit of a drop in image quality, it was nowhere near as noticeable as when I exported from Illustrator.

Although Inkscape renders the font as being thinner, I made a version with a thicker font to match Illustrator and the compression was still fine. While it would seem the solution is to use Inkscape over Illustrator, there are just some things I can't do in Inkscape and I even had to remove a couple of features/effects from the chart so I could give them an even test in both applications.

Can we have the ability to set the compression like we do in storyline pls. Most of us are professionals and know how to compress the image in the first place, and we don't want the images to be compressed again.

I'd love to take a look at your images, and get them into the hands of my team! As I shared earlier, we saw some pixelation of images and our team is looking into that, so any additional examples would help.

Is there any chance of Articulate changing the image compression algorithm in Rise? My banner looks hideous, even though in my source file it is clean and clear. (I love the clever workarounds posted here, but I cannot use GIF, as my banner has both a photo and icons. I also am not going to replace a banner image over and over in the published output in dozens of Rise courses that will use this banner image.) Whether I upload the image in PNG or JPEG format, too many artifacts are highly evident. Can Articulate please modify the Rise image compression algorithm to ensure better image quality?
