Friends & Colleagues:
Last week, the White House issued a new Presidential executive order on Cybersecurity. The Order, text linked here, calls on federal agencies to develop a plan to quickly boost our nation’s supply of highly-trained Cybersecurity professionals. Yet, just 48 hours later, a group of international hackers released a virus stolen from the NSA that disrupted over 40,000 computers across the globe. This attack held hostage computers in 150 countries and created havoc for leading companies including FedEx. Most critically, the cyber attack crippled hospitals for several hours, forcing them to turn away all but emergency patients.
STEM4US! has been on the cutting edge of sounding the alarm about our nation’s shortage of trained Cybersecurity professionals. To meet threats such as those witnessed this week, STEM4US! is launching a consortium to build Cybersecurity incubators at 107 colleges and universities across the nation (Historically Black Colleges and Universities-HBCUs).
This consortium seeks to engage corporations, universities, and advocates to push for $500 million public and private grants for HBCUs to establish incubators on their campuses. With this funding, our nation can quickly produce a pipeline of "cyber defenders" who can be deployed wherever and whenever threats to our critical infrastructure arise.
I invite you to join this consortium at one of the following levels: $10,000 (large company), $5000 (medium company/university), or $1000 (non-profit/school). Your consortium membership would also cover your registration fee in our 4th Annual Tech Festival and Cybersecurity Job Fair (ETE17), set for Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the Washington Convention Center.
If you are interested in joining our consortium or participating in ETE17, shoot me an email to ta...@stem4us.org, and we can promptly follow up with additional details.
Let’s work together to protect our nation and train our youth for the opportunities and challenges of today and tomorrow.
