Background on Talib I. Karim for Hyattsville City Council (Ward 1)
Two years ago I ran for the same office I'm seeking today. It was my first time seeking elected public office and I placed second out of a seven-way race.
After that election, I realized that it takes more than one person to bring about change in government, instead it takes a movement (in the words of a certain Senator from Vermont).
So recently, I launched the Hyattsville Business & Civic Association. Our goals are to restructure government in our city in order to create a stronger platform for growing our business corridors and funding parking, roads, sidewalks, parks and other infrastructure to improve our city’s safety and accessibility. I have also made these the priorities for my campaign.
Now, I have to get elected and that’s where you come in.
My campaign team has estimated that we have to knock on 1100+ doors in the next three weeks to get my message out. To achieve this feat, we need to raise $15,000. Already, we’ve raised over $6500. With your help, we can meet our goal.
Let me close with a saying from my father, a legendary civil rights leader and Memphis City Councilman, Dr. Talib Karim Muhammad. My dad died in office 20 years ago. Before his death, my dad instilled in me and my younger siblings that working together is winning together.
Together, let’s build a winning movement for change in our nation, starting locally, in Hyattsville, MD.
