Happy weekend!

Before this weekend ends, I have two recommendations.

First, register yourself and/or your company/organization for #ETE17---the 2017 Energy, Technology, and Education STEM & Cybersecurity Festival.  Our festival is planned for Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW, Washington, DC 20001.

Through Monday (at 11:59 pm), you can get 30% off of all #ETE17 tickets using the discount code: ETE17-30PDiscount.  And those who are already registered, we have an even better deal for you.  Look out for a separate email with a discount code that allows you to save 75% on #ETE17 tickets!

So what is #ETE17?

#ETE17 is a cybersecurity-focused STEM festival.  At #ETE17, guests can:

  • Network with representatives from companies, government agencies, universities, schools, and after school/summer programs

  • Learn about cybersecurity scholarships, jobs, grants and contracts

  • Listen to cutting edge discussions with leaders in the energy, health, and finance fields

  • Shop for deals with innovative artists and other entrepreneurs among our exhibitors

As an added attraction, #ETE17 plans to include a Cyber Gaming Zone complete with free computer games to underscore the important role of computer gaming and science fiction in exciting youth and adults alike about STEM and the cybersecurity field in particular.

Plus, sign up for our #Hack-Race-a-Thon---a venture competition inspired by the tragic death of one of my Bowie State University students slain in an apparent hate crime this spring while waiting for an Uber.

Make sure your children get a chance to come by encouraging their schools to take advantage of our free and discounted tickets for students. To register or for more details, click on the box below.

Next, I encourage you to check out the movie Detroit. For sure, the movie is not a documentary and thus, not a literal account of the 1967 Detroit riots.  However, as a product of Detroit and former engineer at a Detroit-area Ford plant, I can say the movie did right by me.  It paints a tale of human brutality in the 60s, that is sadly reflective of what we still see today.  And, if we have any chance of hacking racism, we must confront this evil and commit to healing ourselves and those around us.

Like similar films, such as The Birth of a NationDetroit has received some (but not all) bad reviews and has only generated half of what it cost to produce.  So, I encourage you all to see it for yourself and help spread the word. Since most of the subjects in the film are teens, the film also provides a teachable moment for your own teenagers.

If you require additional information about the movie or our STEM & Cybersecurity festival, feel free to email or call me at 202-256-0499.

I look forward to seeing you at #ETE17!
