Dear colleague,
On behalf of STEM4US!, I want to express my gratitude for your support in last week's successful Energy, Technology & Education Festival 2017--- #ETE17. Held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, #ETE17 took place at the Washington Convention Center during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference. We were honored that four of the most senior Congressional Black Caucus members participated in #ETE17 as speakers: Rep. Bobby Scott, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rep. Sanford Bishop, and Rep. Hank Johnson ---- each with responsibility over a key Congressional committee or subcommittee.
Here are some additional #ETE17 highlights (see below for full list of key guests): - #ETE17 Registered Students (K-12 & College/University): 200
- Schools Represented at #ETE17: 7+ (Washington Math Science Technology High School, Lowell School; Bowie State University, Lincoln University, Howard University, George Mason University, University of Maryland, and numerous home school programs)

#ETE17 was inspired by the recent hurricanes and other natural disasters plus the cyber attacks on our nation's health, energy, and banking systems. As such, #ETE17gathered leading educators, innovators, and policymakers to directly engage and mentor youth as well as to offer recommendations for boosting the country's cybersecurity workforce. We also heard from experts on how to protect our children, neighborhoods, and even cultural expressions from abuse in this digital era.
The biggest take-away from #ETE17 was the call for a consortium to raise $500 million in federal and private funding to build Cybersecurity training labs/incubators at community colleges and Historically Black Colleges & Universities. As a next step, we plan to produce a policy report with a complete summary of #ETE17 festival recommendations and other important data.
Also be on the lookout for a #ETE17 photo gallery and survey to get your feedback on how to make next year's ETE festival even better. As we set our sights ahead, I challenge you to be more than a passive supporter. Lend a hand to make our bold vision a reality by becoming a STEM4US! Annual Partner (click on the link below). |
