The shootings at two Islamic centers in New Zealand during Friday, Jummah prayer service have left Muslims and non-Muslims alike heart broken. These "acts of terror" have left 49 dead and over 20 wounded.
Around the same time of these attacks in New Zealand, Israeli rockets stormed down upon residents of the Palestinian city of Gaza. The total number of those injured and displaced by the Israeli attack is still unknown.
A week earlier, the first Muslim hijabi in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, was confronted with a series of political assaults.
The week started with the revelation that an anti-Islamic poster bearing a photo of the Congresswoman was displayed in the West Virginia state capitol. Mid-week, Omar's own U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning her statements questioning why elected officials were being compelled to pay allegiance to Israel. By that Saturday, Congresswoman Omar was once more attacked by a Fox News Anchor for wearing the hijab.
There is no clear connection between all these incidents. However, its plainly obvious that Muslims are being challenged. And the Academy of Muslim Achievement (AMA) contends that the best way to respond to these challenges is by Muslims working and winning together.
Below are several valuable resources for you and your community. Enjoy them and take this opportunity to take a stand by joining AMA --- the Muslim American Academy. |

AMA was launched in 2013 to protect our community by promoting positive examples of Muslim achievement. There is no 100% guarantee that we can prevent attacks like those yesterday. However, we can, and must work harder to educate the public about the great service of Muslims to our nation every single day.
