Personally I'm not interested in a Quant degree because, given I'm not looking for a job in the field, then the cost/time involved to jump thorough the hoops required to pass a degree seem to me a waste of effort. I'd rather spend the time learning techniques that might be useful for trading on my own account.
But I can see if one wants a career then the right quant degree probably helps. That said I suspect Quant jobs are few and far between right now...
