Under backups, we set up the backup options to Webmin Server, enter the backup destination server details (using the same credentials we set up in the Webmin Servers index).
Note that the login is the default ubuntu user, which uses su to gain elevated root permissions.
It is not the physical root user.
Our destination is /home/backups/servers.

I set the root password on the receiving server using sudo passwd root.
For good measure I also set SSH to allow login by root.
I then set the backup to webmin server and the login as root.
However, I still get the same error as before.

If I set the fast RPC to yes in the webmin servers index panel and try a backup, I get a connection timeout error on port 10001. I can connect without issues using fast RPC enabled or disabled, from the webmin server index panel.

I have a well seasoned Ubuntu server that's been running webmin/virtualmin nicely. But now webmin is gone. Most of the files/folders in the /usr/share/webmin are missing, what remains is only
filemin mount mysql sysstats virtualmin-svn virtual-server

Simply go to /usr/share/webmin folder and run update-from-repo.sh update script. If it doesn't exists fetch it from here, put it to Webmin dir, chmod +x and run it with ./update-from-repo.sh, or just run sh update-from-repo.sh.

My most recent backup was from just before webmin disappeared, and in that time period there were two or three subdomains created for an existing account. These don't show up in Virtualmin. although the web sites themselves are operating OK. How do I get them back into VIrtualmin?

The backup has a Virtualmin folder, and copying it along with the webmin folder handled 90% of the sites very well. But the last backup happened BEFORE the latest sites were added in Virtualmin. The sites themselves are there (apache) but Virtualmin doesn't know about them. So I can't "import" them because there's nothing to export them with. Unless the export feature you speak of is a feature I don't know about. I am thinking the backup/restore feature.

A little background- I recently upgraded my headless Ubuntu Server 18.04 install to 20.04. In that process, webmin somehow was gone from my system. The repository was disabled. So I re-enabled, then re-installed. Most everything was where I wanted it to be (SMB server config) and basically only my menu customizations and custom commands were gone.

Now, on webmin, it will not show running processes. It say's 0. That is the only thing I've noticed that is broken. So I posted on webmin's github page, and got a prompt response that the issue was fixed here. So I guess my question is more of a git question than a webmin question, because I really am not sure how to implement the fix on that page to my webmin install. If anyone can steer me in the right direction I'd be appreciative of that.

That helped me out! I couldn't figure out how to download that as a patch, but the file it is referencing on my system was under /usr/share/webmin/proc/. There I backed up linux.lib.pl then edited it in nano. There I changed the lines noted in the patch (+ for add, - for take away), saved, and it worked. Otherwise if I could download it I would have just used the patch command.

I have an old laptop pentium 4 32bit, 2GB Ram, with ubuntu 16.04LTS 32 bit Desktop with LAMP, Webmin, Virtualmin on a laptop (Genuine Intel CPU T2130 @ 1.86GHz 2, Intel 945GM x86 / MMX / SSE2, 32bit, 12 GB HDD, 2GB RAM) that I have. I have a VPS online with Plesk and all my sites run without any problems. I want my laptop as a test server. I have a No-IP xxx dot ddns dot net domain. The name of the laptop is also xxx dot ddns dot net and normally runs the Apache web page.I created a site on wampp windows 10 and it runs as normal on wampp as on my VPS.I want to make the site run on Ubuntu as well and I have made a xxx dot ddns folder under the www folder. dot net and put the folder inside the website. I made a VHOST but nothing ....Also a directory / xxx dot ddns dot net / site1 and definitions in webmin on the default server this folder as per directory and put as directives:Options Indexes FollowSymLinksAllowOverride NoneRequire all grantedbut nothing...I want under the / var / www / xxx dot ddns dot net folder to access my sites eg / var / www / xxx dot ddns dot net / site1, / var / www / xxx dot ddns dot net / site2 and have access as http: // xxx dot ddns dot net / site1, http: // xxx dot ddns dot net / site2 ...I try to make it run on the Webmin without any effect. I get a difference like 404 not able to access the resource.I want to do it through Webmin. Some help please. So far I have been following Plesk's standard procedure and need to learn Apache2.But in recent years I have been working with IIS and I have a limited time. Also after installing VIRTUALMIN all PHP pages appear white while CTRL + U see PHP code.I followed this guide to anything else: =g8aRby8jeJI

Typically adding software repositories is as simple as adding lines to the file /etc/apt/sources.list. However, since Amazon will, under certain circumstances, overwrite this file, it is advisable to create source files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/. So long as the files end with sources.list, apt will read the sources just as if they were part of the original sources.list file. For instance, when adding Webmin I create a new file called webmin.sources.list in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ directory using Nano.

One solution is to simply create a user in the sudo group with a password. This is easily accomplished with the useradd command. The usera command takes the form of useradd -g . Thus, adding a user named webmin to the sudo group can be accomplished by...

Currently I have installed Pihole on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS and I'm planning to install Webmin.
But I do not have much experience here and do not want to destroy the current environement.
I found some helpful manuals out there, where I could install webmin already very easy on a virtual machine. But this one was without a pihole installation.

long time since i used webmin but it doesn't run on lighttpd which pi-hole does by default.
webmin also uses a different default port (10000 if i remember correctly) and pi-hole uses port 80 so i don't see why they can't happily run on the same system.

I am trying to host Ubuntu on webmin and everything is going perfectly, but I can only join my server when I run minecraft 1.5.2 which I obviously dont want to. I think I have the wrong Minecraft Server Module for webmin. How do I get the right one and cant I just make it update automatically or something?

Judging by the source code in the module provided, this SHOULD work. I'm not a webmin user, but I do know enough linux to understand what is going on under the hood aka 'to be dangerous'.

I also installed webmin on an clean ubuntu 14.04.2 amazon instance and then a clean install (following install description) of iredmail and iredadmin pro.
Works great! Just remember that it is advisable to have at least 2 GB of Ram on server instance.
