A new wave of drug testing tech has developed within the last few years. By analyzing the sweat in fingerprints, Intelligent Finger Printing is able to accurately test for amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, and opiates. The fingerprint drug tests that are now being conducted allow for a more hygienic, quicker, and overall more convenient test process.

This efficient test utilizes the sweat residue left behind from the grooves of your fingertips. While many drugs are metabolized by the body in different ways, some are excreted through sweat glands. Cocaine is detectable anywhere from 2 to 48 hours after use, while amphetamines, methamphetamines, and cannabis are anywhere from 2 hours to one week. Opiate-based drugs follow a similar timeline.
This test operates similarly to a standard pregnancy test. The fingerprint sample is placed at one end of a test strip that is then drawn through a membrane that tags the questionable molecules with a fluorescent probe or colored dye. The sample is then coated with antibodies that will only bind with the specific molecules that were tested for (i.e. the substances in question).
In the future, we could see these used on athletes before competitions, on-the-job site to get immediate results, and even for police-use since these are non-invasive tests. This innovation creates a nearly immediate way to test for a variety of the most commonly abused drugs and could end up saving lives by aiding in the prevention of substance abuse in general.
Several types of lateral flow assays exist with minor differences in their details of the operation. Generally, cellulose or paper-based material is used to support a mixed layer of molecules that will form complementary pairs with the analytes of interest in a sample. The liquid sample, in this case, sweat, is placed at one end of the assay test strip, which is then drawn through a membrane containing these molecules by an absorbent pad on the opposite end of the strip.
The molecules are tagged with a fluorescent probe, dye, or in some cases, plasmonic materials such as gold nanoparticles, which will then be clearly visible once they reach the test line. The test line is coated with antibodies that will only bind with the formed analyte-probe complex, demonstrating the presence of the analyte in question.
The researchers say they hope to expand the range of controlled substances that can be detected, which could include methamphetamines, amphetamines, and marijuana. The test can be modified to detect therapeutic drugs prescribed by physicians too.
The fingerprinting process is initiated once an applicant applies and makes the payment for certification through the Educator Certification Online System (ECOS). At the time the applicant pays for certification, he or she will also be prompted to pay for the fingerprint background check. Certificate applicants residing in Texas must submit their fingerprints electronically, Option 1, using the Texas Department of Public Safety's (DPS) approved vendor, MorphoTrust/Identogo. Once payment for fingerprinting has been submitted in ECOS, the applicant will be "pre-enrolled" and MorphoTrust/Identogo will send the applicant an email that includes information to schedule an appointment. The email will be sent from the address - nobody uemail.identoGo.com.
The total fingerprinting background check fee for a certificate applicant in Texas is $50.25, $40.25 of which is paid in ECOS via credit card during the application process. An additional $10.00 is paid to MorphoTrust/IdentoGo at the time of appointment scheduling. A valid photo ID is required at the time of the appointment. Texas Education Agency (TEA) receives the fingerprinting results 5-7 business days after the fingerprint appointment.
Applicants for certification residing Out-of-State can use an approved Out-of-State MorphoTrust/Identogo fingerprinting location. The applicant will choose option 1, the electronic submission during the application process. The $40.25 fee for the fingerprint background check is paid in ECOS via credit card. A recruiter will discuss physical eligibility requirements with you beforehand. The physical is a regular medical exam, similar to what you would receive from a family doctor. Some recruiters may conduct a short physical training (PT) test with potential recruits as well.
