As Ben Kolb mentioned we have the Sev1 critical outage case opened for 5 days and we worked with support 3 days on this issue, 2 with lower-level support and 1 with escalation engineer, no update since we worked with the escalation engineer. 3 Things we know, with Apple device you can launch desktops and applications via the gateway, on 13.1 49.13. Windows and Android clients fail. Previous version of code worked fine. No way based on the severity of the CVE rolling back is an option. I've got an Orbi AX4200 RBR750 with OpenVPN configured. I'm trying to use Microsoft Remote Desktop from a laptop over the VPN to a workstation. It all works fine when the laptop and workstation are on the local network, but when the laptop is remote the VPN connects successfully but Remote Desktop can't find the workstation.
With this policy setting applied, users who log on to the local Windows console see an additional option on the Duo for Windows Logon prompt for remembering the device. This option will not display for RDP/remote logins to Windows systems with Duo Authentication for Windows Logon installed, regardless of the effective remembered devices policy setting for Windows Logon.
If you enabled User Elevation in Duo for Windows Logon v4.1.0 or later, you'll see the Duo authentication prompt after you enter your password for a credentialed elevation request. The application you were trying to launch runs after you approve the Duo two-factor request. If you chose to remember the device at the Windows desktop login, then you won't need to approve Duo authentication for UAC elevations made by the same logged-in account either until the trusted Duo session ends.
While Microsoft Remote Desktop is compatible with all versions of Windows 8 and 10, only WIndows Pro and Enterprise users can set up their computers to be accessed remotely. In other words, any computer running Windows 8 or 10, including the Home edition, can be used to access another device, but that device needs to be running the Pro or Enterprise version of Windows.
Similarly, Microsoft Remote Desktop gives users access to files stored on the remote computer, making it easy to print or share documents from any location. You can also set your desktop to stay awake when not in use to prepare for a remote connection. Your admin can publish resources for remote access, including virtual desktops, session-based desktops, and RemoteApp programs.
Microsoft Remote Desktop is unnecessarily complex, with two distinct Windows apps and additional options in both Settings and Local Security Policy. That said, it provides strong remote desktop performance on Windows 10.
Furthermore, it gives users helpful tools like seamless access to remote files, function keys on mobile devices, and remote resources like virtual and session-based desktops. All things considered, Microsoft Remote Desktop is a convenient and powerful solution if you need to access a desktop remotely.
Please note that Microsoft Remote Desktop should only be used for connecting to office computers on campus running Windows. For access to library databases and online journals from off-campus, use the library instructions for EZProxy instead. To access tamba and other file shares (zep, tcdata, tbos) from off-campus, please use Mac Forticlient VPN instead. A staff guide to working remotely is also available.
AWS Directory Service for Microsoft Active Directory, also known as AWS Microsoft AD, now supports Microsoft Remote Desktop Licensing Manager (RD Licensing). By using AWS Microsoft AD as the directory for your Remote Desktop Services solution, you reduce the time it takes to deploy remote desktop solutions on Amazon EC2 for Windows Server instances, and you enable your users to use remote desktops with the credentials they already know. In this blog post, I explain how to deploy RD Licensing Manager on AWS Microsoft AD to enable your users to sign in to remote desktops by using credentials stored in an AWS Microsoft AD or an on-premises Active Directory (AD) domain.
If you have an on-premises AD domain with users, your users can open remote desktop sessions with their on-premises credentials if you create a forest trust from AWS Microsoft AD to your Active Directory. The trust enables using on-premises credentials without the need for complex directory synchronization or replication. The following diagram illustrates how to configure a system using the same steps as in the previous section, except that you must create a one-way trust to your on-premises domain in Step 1a. With the trust in place, AWS Microsoft AD refers the RD Session Host to the on-premises domain for authentication.
In this post, I have explained how to authorize RD Licensing in AWS Microsoft AD to support EC2-based remote desktop sessions for AWS managed users and on-premises AD managed users. To learn more about how to use AWS Microsoft AD, see the AWS Directory Service documentation. For general information and pricing, see the AWS Directory Service home page.
Under PC name, put your TC computer's (your desktop computer at TC that you are trying to access) name or IP address in the PC name box. If you do not know this information, please reach out to the Service Desk. They can help you obtain this information.
Remote Desktop access: You will need to be added as an authorized Remote Desktop user to any Windows computers that you'd want to connect to. Contact Help for assistance with getting authorized as a remote desktop user on a computer.
Private vs Public Networks: If the remote Windows computer network is not set to Private or Work (ie Public), the firewall will block the connection. Change the network location to Work.
Power Management: By default, most computers allow the power management utility to turn off network devices to save power when the device sleeps. Remote access is not possible when the network adapter is powered down. Uncheck the option to 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' in the adapter settings on the remote computer.
1. Utilize the System Information Viewer application, which should be an Orange Paw icon on the desktop of the computer you're looking to remote desktop to. It should look something like RITCHIE.AD.RIT.EDU
