Dear All - Happy New Year I hope!

Just to let you all know, there has been consistant and heavy frosts
at Talacre with the vast majority of vans it would seem suffering from
being frozen solid with no water on New years Eve in to New Years day.

An number of vans close to me suffered damage to their boliers on New
Years Day "night", some vans were completely flooded with water
pouring through the floors and doors, whilst others had more basic
outside bursts.

I've been made aware from others that insurance doesn't cover threse
eventualities. It will be intresting to see if the Haven Hordes who
came up for the New Year and have left because of the "unseasonal"
cold spell get compensated! I do remember them paying out on weather
issues after a a hail storm some years ago, so there may be hope.

Just some quick advice on winterizing.

Always switch your water off at the stop tap outside when you leave
the van for any length of time.
Open taps in the van to release pressure.
Open the drains on the pipes underneath your boiler (outside) and
ideally blow the excess water in the pipe through your shower pipe
(remember tap needs to be on!) or even better through an external tap
(if you have one fitted).
Finally, flush the toliet and put some anti-freeze in the toilet,
header tank and down each of the plug holes.

It could be worth a visit down there to check your vans.

All the best - hope it goes well for you all - and please pass this
message on. Its the power of the forum at it's best.

The Lacker!

Hi Lacker Happy New Year to u too
Thanx 4 that! Luckily (or unluckily) we were also there when it
happened - hairdryers and heaters were out trying to unblock all pipes
and they had to be lagged to help prevent future freezing - once it
was up and running again we had to keep the water flowing on new years
eve in order for it not to freeze up again! Security were no help
whatsoever as usual!!! they were sitting on the fence and wouldn't
even advise what to do in case of comebacks. My friend had to leave
her van frozen so I hope she hasn't suffered any bursts or leaks.

We left around tea-time on New Years Day and got to drain-down in the
usual way so keeping our fingers-crossed that everything has been done
in the proper manner by everybody should there be any need for
insurance claims.

Many people came down on New Years Eve just for the party and had to
return home the same day - For these people - I hope your New Years
Eve turned out ok and wish every1 all the best for 2009!

Good Luck all and see you in March!

Hello everyone.

We had problems too, as did a number of our friends around the park.
Two neighbours had gaskets on boilers go - I think ours is OK (finger
crossed). Our corner was badly hit it would seem, with a number of
caravans seem to suffer the same fate with the joints blowing off
underneath the caravan (underneath the bolier).

Great to get the news first through this forum - great idea for these
type of emergencies. We drained off on the 2nd - down to the letter
from lackers instructions! :-)

I would hope insurance companies see sense on any claims. I know it's
winter BUT the park is still open, the weather was not only
unseasonally cold, but it is a sustained period of cold as well.

Hope all is well with you guys! Happy New Year.

Just noting the issue has been making the national news in terms of
the unprecendented prolonged period of cold rather than extreme low
temperatures causing the issue around Wales and on a much grander
scale.

Anyone struggling with an insurance claim should refer to this.
