I'm sorry to say I missed out on the mapping session in the afternoon,
I would have loved to have come along, but as a web developer, I
really did need to attend Nickys course on finding stories.
For anyone who is considering or already using the wonderful drupal
open source content management system, it's got some excellent add on
modules that can really add some life to your pages. In most cases
you'll just embed a map from google maps and have done with it, which
is fine in 99% of all cases.
Every now and then you might want to do a little bit more, and this is
where dupal's gmap and location module come in,
One of the tools available from these add ons is the ability for the
"gmap" module, to work hand in hand with drupals list building modules
"Views".
Every entry in the My Tunstall business directory can have a address
added to it, making use of druapals "location" module, and it offers a
range of fields such as street, town, city, county, postcode. When you
submit your page/node/entry the location module then tries to get a
longitude and latitude value from google's (or other services) API.
Any entry in my business directory database that has been geocoded
will automatically be pulled onto the map.

You'll also noticed that different business types are in set colours.
Another powerful feature is it's taxonomy features (categories to you
and me), which you can assign a colour to.
To set up, you don't need to be a developer either, just a bit of
patience, but if anyone is working with drupal and wants a heads up,
please give me a shout.
Macro Builder
Another tool that comes with drupal's gmaps module is it's macro
builder, that allows you in it's most basic form, to pop a map onto
you page. It also has other tools such as the ability to draw circles,
lines, polygons, pin pricks on a map, and it will give you the code to
pop into your drupal pages.
For instance the map found here was plotted with the macro builder
tool,

Which gave this chunk of code to be pasted into the site, it might not
look pretty, but it works
