I'd quite like to do a session (if that's okay) about hyperlocal sites
with elements local character and colour that bring out the
personality of a place. There's some really amazing sites out there
that are telling a community's stories, such as http://spitalfieldslife.com/
and http://www.biglittlecity.com/

It'd be quite nice to discuss ways of drawing out these elements -
such as creatively exploring places like Jon Bounds'
'psychogeographical epic' http://11bus.co.uk/ and ways of telling
these tales.

Cheers, Nicky

would be good to see a session on this - hyperlocal is about much more
than local news and events - narrative, story telling about a place
are vital and often much more interesting than the news

I think that this session is a very good idea and this is a proven way
to drive traffic to the site as well as establishing its charactor.
Would be interested ti hear some ideas on the sort of topics and the
best platforms to portray them

Drimnagh has great character & personality and would love to find out more on how to convey that onto a hyperlocal site. Interested in the storytelling side and you probably know Nicki, Irish people love to tell a great story.

So count me in on this one for defo.

This sounds a great idea - although I assume lots of 'character' can
be portrayed through content and multi-media portrayal of local
communities, locations, colour and slang?

Hi Ray, yes definitely. One of the bet multi media portrayals of
local slang I've ever come across is Mr Caulkhead's Isle of Wight,
whose podcasts were featured by Ventnor Blog. Absolute genius:

http://ventnorblog.com/topic/history/isle-of-wight-words/

We can chat about different local character and ways to portray for
colourful content on a local website.

Cheers, Nicky.

I'd be really interested in this session too. We just had our opening
night for our Some Like It Too Hot project, that aimed to tell the
story of "How Leiths Homes Are Leaking Heat" This involves lot's of
thermal images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/greenerleith/sets/72157623804306062/

And some audio stories like this one: http://audioboo.fm/boos/114596-keith-and-kaori-energy-story

As well as a physical exhibition: http://www.greenerleith.org/greener-leith-news/2010/4/12/its-open.html

Whilst this might get a bit beyond what most people consider
"hyperlocal," it's certainly opened our eyes to how a local site and
the wonderful free social media tools out there can be used to tell
andf share stories about a place.

Would love to hear about other projects in other places, and their
experience of doing stuff like this.
