A JOYFUL NOISE -- Judges 5 NIV

Judges 5 NIV

"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers!
I will sing to the LORD, I will sing;
I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel

Judges 5:3 NIV

True to her character, Deborah wanted to give God the glory He had given the army of Israel, and she did it with a song.  This fifth chapter of Judges is one of the oldest poems in the Bible, obviously pre-dating the Psalms.  In it, Deborah begins with praise for God in granting them the victory, then she recounts the entire event, naming the players and giving a full account of what occurred.  But the most important thing is, she sang praises to God for what He had done.

God likes to hear songs of praise.  He tells us to make a "joyful noise" for Him to hear.  He doesn't care if we sing on key or not.  He doesn't care if ours is one of the voices He has blessed with beautiful tone.  Any voice raising praises to Him is a sweet sound to His ears.  And a person singing praises to God is incapable of being depressed or sad or worried.  The two just don't mix.

Today, give a blessing to your Lord, and bless yourself in the process.  Spend some time singing praises to Jesus' name.  And enjoy what happens inside you.

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 5:19-20 NIV

Praise the LORD.
   Praise God in his sanctuary;
   praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power;
   praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
   praise him with the harp and lyre,

praise him with tambourine and dancing,
   praise him with the strings and flute,

praise him with the clash of cymbals,
   praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
   Praise the LORD.

Psalm 150 NIV
