PURE IN HEART -- Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

A person who is truly pure in heart… pure in motives… pure in intentions… is a person who sees God.  He sees God in everything around him.  He sees God in every circumstance.  He sees God in everything he does.  He sees God because he continually "seeks God's face".  He is humble, yet free from guilt.  He feels no guilt because he has repented and turned away from his sins and his sinful nature.  He has been forgiven for his sins.  He has made a commitment to be obedient to God and God alone.  In everything he does, in everything he says, in everything he thinks, he seeks God's good pleasure.  When he does err and sin, he is filled with an agony of spirit that is intense, because his true heart’s desire is to please God, so he is quick to repent, beg forgiveness, and get back on track again.

A person who is pure in heart is open.  He is naked and unashamed before God and before those whom he encounters.  He is totally honest about himself and about who and what he is.  He seeks that same openness and honesty in those close to him.  He looks for a pureness of heart in those whom he loves.  And because he is open and honest about his own personal failures and triumphs, he is free to love truly and honestly and unselfishly and without condition.

A person who is pure in heart is not only able to see God, but to understand God, to accept God's infinite love for him and to share that deep, unconditional love with others.  He is self-less and unselfish.  He is not egocentric.  He seeks only the will of God and the good of those around him.

How pure are your motives?  How honest and open are you about yourself?  Do you seek a pureness of heart and an openness and honesty in those closest to you?  Can you see God?
