On International Human Rights Day, Thursday, December 10, 2010, you are urged to join the struggle for housing as a human right. The protest is a joint action between Right to the City (RTTC) and the Us Human Rights Network (USHRN), which is launching a national Take Back the Land campaign. Combined, RTTC and USHRN represent hundreds of community and issue based organizations acros the US fighting for human rights for all people.

We gather on Thursday, December 10, 2010 at 1:00pm on the South side of Miami-Dade government center, 111 NW First St., in downtown Miami. We encourage participants to take public transportation.

As banks get bailed out and the people get sold out, we protest the billions of dollars given to banks who are allowed to continue to foreclose on and evict families in dire financial situations and the failed government policies that contribute to the housing crisis. This protest takes on greater significance on international human rights day and as we step up the campaign for recognition of housing as a human right.

This actino is iportant for three reasons: first, it represents the best of people power: people imactedby the crisis taking action to address the problem. Second, it is a collaboration between three great Miami organizations: the Miami Workers Center, Power U and Take Back the Land. And third, the action comes as RTTC kicks off its Peoples' Recovery campaign and the USHRN kicks of the national Take Back the Land campaign.

Please join us for this important action.

forward,
