to Take-A-Hike LA
WHEN: Saturday, 9/7, 10am - MANDEVILLE CANYON (Westridge Canyon Trail) - 10am (hike starts at 1015am)

WHERE: MANDEVILLE CANYON to SAN VICENTE PEAK / BRENTWOOD
2652 Westridge Rd
Los Angeles, CA 90049
Neighborhood: Brentwood

WHAT / WHY:
Going to be a sunny, beautiful weekend.  Great hike to get some sunshine, and a good tan.   It will be in the low 80s this weekend, make sure to bring 1 liter of water.

Hey everyone, the group is heading back to one of our favorites - Mandeville Canyon.   This is a dog friendly hike, but a longer one - so please make sure your dog is fit, and bring water!  Great way to detox after Friday nights festivities.  Sweat it out!

This park in the Santa Monica Mountains is located in Brentwood off of Sunset Blvd.  Westridge-Canyonback Park provides more than 1,500 acres of open space bordered by upper Mandeville Canyon, Sullivan Canyon, Mission Canyon, and San Vicente Mountain Park.   We will hike to San Vicente Peak, and an abandoned missile silo. In the 1950s, San Vicente Mountain served as a mountain-top military installation to defend Los Angeles from soviet missile attacks.

The park is accessible from both the San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles. The Westridge fire road provides trail access for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians along the north-south ridgeline. The park is contiguous with the 20,000-acre urban wilderness park known as the “Big Wild.”

HIKE INFO:  Hikers can enjoy a moderate 2-2.5 hour hike. (approx. 6.5 miles)

DIRECTIONS:
From West Hollywood (or the 405), take Sunset Blvd west towards PCH.  You will need to turn right on Mandeville Canyon Road, and then an immediate left turn on Westridge.  Continue to take Westridge approx. 2 miles to the top of the road, and find street parking.   We will meet inside the gate at the trail-head.
