Fortunately for the mischievous cubs, this is a story with a happy ending... Because despite Shayena's attempts at pretending that everything is totally fine and she has no idea where Simba and Nala are, the truth about their secret outing to the Graveyard got out very fast. It only took Mufasa, who had just returned from patrol, to inquire as to what his son is up to. She couldn't weasel her way out of this one: the king called his niece's bluff, and she had to confess. Mufasa was, of course, angry... But there was no time for scolding, they had to get to the cubs as soon as possible! Feeling terribly ashamed of her lying, Shayena volunteered to show the way to the King, Zazu, and a few other adults to the place where they last saw Nala. Although, they did get a little lost on their way to the Graveyard, but Shayna's old pal Charlie helped them reorient themselves. Mufasa had to reign in his displeasure at finding out that his niece was secretly friends with a hyena. After all, right now Charlie was the only one who could tell them where the rest of the clan was! Help came in the nick of time: by that point, Simba had already found Nala. Both terrified cubs were huddled together on top of a giant elephant skull, surrounded by a crowd of starving scavengers! Fortunately, the lions drove them away fairly quickly. Having given Charlie his dry thanks, Mufasa led the cubs back to Pride Rock... But at about midway there, he stopped and ordered the majordomo to take the girls to the cave. He needed to have a very serious conversation with Simba, and he did not want any spectators. Nala and Shayena went on ahead, guided by Zazu. But unlike the younger girl, Shaye was not afraid or sad over a possible tongue-lashing.
For one, despite everything that happened, she and Charlie were the ones who helped find the young heir and his friend, thus slightly improving Mufasa's opinion of them. For another, she really was glad that Simba and Nala were shaken but unhurt. They weren't friends per se, but Shaye never wished for anything to happen to them. And aside from that... Scar had never been particularly interested in his daughter's affairs, so it's doubtful that he'll scold her over this escapade. For once, Shaye was unbothered by her father's indifference. Even somewhat glad for it.
