Axel Christensen published a number of piano rags, many of which were also published in the Ragtime Review. Jasen and Jones (2000:126) describe his compositions as "musically competent" but "not very exciting." Set out below is a list, in chronological order, of links to sheet music and sheet music covers of compositions by Axel Christensen. Following this table are links to sheet music and sheet music covers of compositions by each of Edward Mellinger, Marcella Henry, Robert Marine and Bernard Brin, each of whom were teachers at Christensen schools. Following this is a link to a compilation in one source of all of the "movie music" published in various volumes of the Ragtime Review. Thanks to Rob Crausaz for providing old scans of the covers below for Press Club Rag, Minnesota Rag, Progressive Rag and Reinette Rag.

Set out below is a link to a single document containing all of the "movie music" samples contained in various editions of the Ragtime Review. Most of these samples were published in the Ragtime Review without attribution as to authorship. Presumably, those samples were composed by Axel Christensen. The samples in the link below are on the following themes suitable to be played to accompany silent movies:

The dance remix version of the instrumental Axel F was created by a duo of German producers. The song has topped the singles charts in several countries and now boasts over 4.4 billion views on Youtube, making it one of the 30 most-viewed videos on the platform.

The La Touche Musicale learning app offers more than 2,500 songs to play easily on the piano. Connect your piano to your device and learn to play them at your own pace while having fun.

To begin your exploration of the notes, concentrate on the groups of two black keys. Start by locating the white key on the left: this corresponds to the note C. The white key on the right is the note E. Now you can easily locate all the C and E notes on your keyboard. Use the same method with the groups of black keys on the diagram to identify the other notes.

On the piano, the right hand is often used to play the melodic notes that make up the theme or melody of the music. In many pieces, the right hand plays the highest notes on the keyboard, giving it a distinctive and often melodic role in the overall composition.

On the piano, the left hand plays a crucial role in harmonization, rhythm and musical texture. Its main role is to accompany the melody by playing the chords, and to provide a bass line to support the rhythmic and harmonic structure of the music.

Indeed, in our daily activities, our movements tend to be symmetrical. However, coordinating the movements of both hands at the piano is not instinctive for most of us. That said, with practice, you can get the hang of it, and the La Touche Musicale application is here to help you in the learning process.

One effective method is to practice activities in which each hand is engaged in distinct actions. For example, you could try bouncing a ball in your right hand while using your left hand to catch objects. This practice will help your body to develop a dissociation between your two hands.

However, pausing frequently on a video to adjust your fingers or go back can be tedious. For a smoother experience, we recommend using the La Touche Musicale application. This interactive application connects you directly to your piano and waits for you to play the notes correctly before moving on. Combined with our guide, it offers you optimum progress.

The main aim of this article was to teach you how to play Axel F on the piano. However, we think it would also be practical for you to have access to a score, so that you can play this music wherever you are. To download the score, please click on this link.
