Please open an old project and repeat the process which caused the problem (you do not say what was being calculated, I am curious what step this was). If doing this does not trigger the script error we may have a work around to the problem if all else fails.

Also, can you do a system restore to a time before the problem began? I would suggest doing a drive image before you do this in case of a problem but usually system restore is not problematic as you can use the process to come back to the current state if need be. The fact that reinstalling AC did not resolve the problem would seem to indicate that the problem is with the system. Restoring to a previous system state would hopefully solve the problem.

Can you let us know when are you receiving this script error. I assume you must be getting this error while creating a drilling toolpath. Can you mentioned steps you are following leading to this script error?

Alright so I solved one of my own problems already. The issue with the dialog boxes not opening was due to the fact that I did not have the "Tool Settings:" window activated under the Window Tab. That handled those issues. Still have the issues on the script errors when opening the software.

Also for some reason when I am using the text tool and I try to select a font I only get a list of the first fonts that will fit on the screen. I am not able to scroll down and do not have any scroll bar appearing on the side. Not sure if this is a bug or if this is caused by the script error. I can type in the font if I can remember the name and it will come up but I have about 1000 fonts and I don't remember all the names.

As stupid as this sounds, I downloaded ArtCAM 2018 and used it the first day. I cannot for the life of me find the program anywhere on my computer, much less open it. I can uninstall, download again, use it once, and same thing happens. All I want is to draw simple objects to test out my grblcontroller on my cnc router. I have spent so much time fighting this that I still can't do anything but run the samples I recieved with the router. I have Windows 7 Professional and I have a seperate admin account that I use to make sure that my kids can't download anything without my permission. I have zero experience (obviously) with the software and just want to learn the basics for right now.

In the event of a crash, we have configured ArtCAM to store information about its circumstances in a single file. This is known as a MiniDump. A MiniDump file (*.dmp) is particularly useful to the Development Team, as it enables us to examine what was happening at the exact point of the crash; this greatly improves the chance of identifying and fixing a rare or random crash that cannot be reproduced.

I have had a similar problem and I don't think reinstalling or downloading windows updates is the issue. It can be solved by first running the application as Administrator (that is right click "Run as Administrator") and you will see the problem goes away so it is a rights issue. Once you have done this, you can open the programme with the normal double click and all should now be fine.

Every time i open up Artcam i have approx 13 script error i have to go through. When i have finished creating a design it will only save it as a Tap file and not a NC file and when closing the programme it comes up with "encountered a improper argument" Do i need to update the Artcam if so it would be useful if i could be directed the proper link.

I understand that Artcam has been discontinued would i be better off getting a similar alternative to use, we only use the 2d section of Artcam so i do not think we would need anything more complected. Your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Carveco is basically AC. When AD discontinued AC a new company (not with AD in anyway) was formed and the rights to develop AC were purchased by it. The new company is called Carveco. Cavecos latest version (its the only one available for purchase) will open any AC file produced with AC from AC 2008 until 2018. Cavecos interface is the same as AC 2018. In short, it is AC under new leadership. Find out more are carveco.com

When a script error occurs, you are missing vital install fines. Whether this has been unsuccessfully installed or a Windows update has displaced the files, its unknown. But you can correct this by following the uninstall and reinstall so long as your PC meets the requirements to run ArtCAM 2018.

I have been running ArcGIS 10.5 on my PC (Windows 10 Home) since December with no issues. This past week I have started to get ActiveX Security Warnings when I click into a parameter field in any ArcToolbox tool.

I am working through the answers to Why do ArcToolbox tools give ActiveX error?, although there doesn't appear to be an actual answer on that Q&A. Additionally it's back in the Windows XP/7 days with IE 7/8, and I'm running Win 10 with IE 11 (although that's never used). If it matters, the browsers we use are Firefox 53.0 (64-bit) and Chrome 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit).

The issue I am having sounds different as it's happening only when I click on the parameter field - not when I open the tool or, as I read elsewhere, ArcMap. The warning messages on that Q&A also have different text so it may be a completely different problem.

I have opened Internet Explorer (for the first time since getting this PC!) and looked at the Local Zone settings and everything for ActiveX is marked Enabled, including one about running without prompting:

I went through the suggested ActiveX settings from Problem: Issues with ActiveX controls when launching ArcMap, updated all my settings to match (the only one I had to change was the "Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls" one I changed in my testing above).

I found a fix for this on ESRI's web site - axtiveX error warning. A staff member came into the thread and confirmed it is a bug in current versions of ArcGIS (at time of writing, 10.5.1 was the latest).

So far we have only seen it affect our 1703 users. Haven't tested on 1709, but I'm going to imagine it also affects them too. At my org we are not allowed to change security zone's as the other answer's states (policy for this setting is controlled far higher up the chain), but the link above has a workaround (or possibly actual fix?). I hear they are supposed to have this in 10.6.

Some of our users reported this issue to Esri Support a few weeks ago. We have reported this issue as a defect to our development teams. They are well aware and are investigating this issue at their end.

They link to their knowledge base article on how to fix it: Bug: Internet Explorer script errors are generated when running any geoprocessing tool from ArcToolbox on some systems that implement folder redirection

Essentially you need to copy their .xsl files into your arctoolbox folder, which for 10.5 (by default) is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.5\ArcToolbox\Stylesheets. While the link to this page shows an error that looks very different from the one you describe it seems to be the same issue, just an old version of internet explorer. I confirmed it was working for a few of our users.

The one important difference that most suggestions omit, and very possibly this is all that's needed to fix this, is that in Zone 0 a new DWORD 1201 MUST be created if it doesn't already exist. In other words changing all the other DWORD values to "0" will not work unless 1201 is also added.

I see that a few posts were deleted from here; one that correctly identifies the problem as a recent windows update which it was, the other which states that adding the DWORD solves the problem. Perhaps, leaving correcting these posts to sound more like answer and not deleting them would have been a better approach since the actual accepted answer here is incomplete.

No, I really meant January 2018. This turned out to be pessimistic, actually. Remember the AutoCAD release names are a year out of sync with reality. AutoCAD 2018 was released in March 2017, with the Mac version arriving in November 2017, a couple of months before my prediction.

The word security refers specifically to emerging problems in many formats where criminal, mercenary, and state-sponsored hackers doctor data files in targeted software that execute code when opened (using buffer overflow and other techniques). Many of these vulnerabilities have now been closed.

And so can previous versions of DWG. And so can PDF (as you probably know, Adobe hardened this format considerably as a result of widespread and well-known abuse), Microsoft DOCx, and most other software formats!

The key here is (1) the level of criminal or terrorist motivation to execute code in your organization, (2) the level of popularity of the format, (3) the value or sensitivity of the content in the format, and (4) the level of difficulty of doctoring the format.

Regarding DMCS and workflow, I agree with you. Getting the level of control and complexity right is very difficult. Remember Autodesk WorkCenter many years ago? Every change to a document spawns a cascade of workflow items/notifications/ approvals, which in turn spawns set of document changes. The tools available for documentation management range from file systems to configuration management systems. Workflow tools range from email to process management. The big thing now is access control. These tools are often not employed well, resulting in a stifling amount of administrative overhead.
