Ihave searched for a way to add the ENG to the end of the subtitle file name systematically via MCEBuddy, but can not find that option. Is that available? In the conversion task settings, under Audio and Video, I have audio language set to only keep the english audio track, but would be nice if the ENG could be added to the subtitle file as well.

Thank you so much! I was messing around with the script above, but am a bit confused. It is written specifically to delete the SRT and EDL file (I need the SRT file) and my files are formatted in MP4 format rather than MKV. After a little bit of googling I realized that my command line skills are quite minimal. So this is what I came up with for an MP4 file:

MCEBuddy will now detect the language name from the SRT file name (e.g. filename.fre.srt) from the metadata inside the file if the subtitles is being extracted from the original video file and use this 3 digit language code in the final SRT filename.

It also include the language tag in the MP4 and MKV files metadata for the subtitle tracks. If there is no language code detected then it will use the 3 digit code from the language selected in the MCEBuddy settings page.

So I managed to get it working with just exporting the subtitles as Goose said. Embedding them seemed to be the issue. Just so happened that closed captioning was off on the TV itself so thats what was stopping that. Never thought to check. Its working fine just extracting them and saving them in the directory as a .srt though. Im good!

Peloton appears to be beta testing French subtitles in their classes. At least two classes on the Peloton platform contain French subtitles that appear automatically, even if the subtitles setting is turned off.

The classes members have reported seeing French subtitles are a 15 minute Morning Mobility class with Ross Rayburn from May 4, 2023; and a 20 minute Full Body Strength class with Callie Gullickson from November 6, 2023. There could potentially be additional classes displaying French subtitles as well.

Adding French subtitles could help Peloton in a number of areas. First, they could further expand into Canada with French Canadians, particularly in Quebec. In addition, Peloton could expand further into additional western European countries in which French is prominent.

Back in 2021 Peloton indicated that French language classes were on the way; however, well over two years later this has not come to fruition and there have been no new indications that French language classes will launch anytime soon, if at all. Thus, French subtitles would be a way for Peloton to reach French speakers without having to add French language classes just yet.

Peloton recently surveyed members about the subtitles feature (or closed captioning feature). Peloton occasionally sends out surveys like this to members to gather feedback on certain features, and to get ideas for improvements or future changes on features.

Peloton has been building their closed captioning capabilities over the past few years. In 2022 Peloton added a feature enabling members who utilized closed captioning during a class to rate the accuracy at the end of the workout. Peloton also launched closed captioning & subtitles on live classes back in 2021.

I had the same problem and then come up with an open-source cross-platform subtitle player, Penguin Subtitle Player. It works in the same way as greenfish but it works well also on Linux and OSX so one can play srt files on top of a web browser (or whatever).

VLC will play the stream if it has access to the real URL of the video, which is not so obvious on all websites.To get the proper URL stream, take a look at the answers under this question. To just start a video in an external player like VLC (using a Firefox addon that finds the proper URL), take a look at this answer here.

It's easier than VLC since you won't have to worry about finding the stream URL. If the video player on the web page is supported (and it supports many common video players used in streaming), then it's just easy! Once it is loaded in the video, you can directly search and load your subtitles from it. If needed you can even synchronize your subtitles with a slider, in live, while watching.

To enter the requested URL, please utilize the The Subtitles website: find the requested subtitles for the movie (eg Flight (2012) on the The Subtitles website and click the button Copy Url. As soon as the copying is completed, you will see in the right upper corner the notification Url Copied.
