Restoring Whatsapp backup is driving me crazy, it doesn't detect local backups and when I get asked to select the account to choose the box is empty and there is just "add account".
Tried to remove and sync account from that box, nothing happened.
I have a Pixel 4a

grapheneosuser I've performed a local backup recovery absolutely fine the first and only time I needed it, so it's probably not Graphene but something else of your configuration. Do you have Google Services enabled?

[deleted] unrelated, I know, but many times, Meta apps wrongly label specific groups of IPs as chinese, russian or iranian, as people use VPN to connect to internet, but leave their GPS data on. So they start labeling those IPs as from their "real" location instead of their "VPN location". So to speak. Hope that makes sense to you, I've seen this happened hundreds of times for VPN users.

Sounds like you want to restore your Google Drive cloud backup of WhatsApp.
In this case you need to uninstall WhatsApp, install Sandboxed Google Play and login to your Google account.
Only after that you shall download WhatsApp from Play Store and try to restore your cloud backup.

grapheneosuser copy the entire com.whatsapp file, a few levels up from the ones you've copied, and see what happens. It's worked for me when I was having issues before copying and pasting individual folders

I have a pixel 7 and had the same issue.
The local backup must be placed in /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ in older Android versions was directly on /WhatsApp/
I cleared all app data, put all the old files in this folder and then after doing the setup i got the recover prompt

lucaf Hello ! Sorry to dig this post haha
I am currently having these issues. I have tried many things, but nothing works for now. Can you confirm the following path is what you have done, and if not, could you correct me please ? It would really help me ! I can't really try it since I've requested to move my account litterally too many times and I now have like 15 minutes between each new code, and I'm afraid not to be able to do it again haha
0-download the APK from whatsapp.com/android without installing it
1-copy the entire com.whatsapp folder from the old phone into my pc
2-create /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ on the pixel 7 without whatsapp installed
3-copy the com.whatsapp folder into it, leading to the following path : /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/com.whatsapp (that is where I don't really know, should I copy the whole com.whatsap folder or the 3 subfolder into Whatsapp, leading to /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media , /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases, etc ? )
4-install whatsapp by cliking on the APK
5-following the instructions and asking for a new code

You need to replicate the folder structure as it was on the old device, so no leading, copy the 3 folders directly into the WhatsApp folder in Android/media/com.whatsapp. I've also found it necessary to disable backup encryption temporarily (disable Drive backup before doing that) and, oddly, to wait for the backup size calculation to complete when it offers to restore the local backup. It only offers to restore after confirming your number.

vcmj Thank you for your help ! Should I install the apk before ou after replicating the folder structure ? Or I transfer the property of my account into the pixel, and then I delete and replace the folders with my old ones ?

Curious if anyone has tried backing up and restoring their WA accounts recently. I tried the method listed, copying the backups to my new device at /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp but this is not working.

Hello guys, first post. Running BuruSFTP on Windows 10 Pro. I use a folder syncing app that I use to upload files to a drive connected to BSFTP. Almost all folders sync fine, but this "com.whatsapp media Ahmad" is CRAWLING! It started out very fast, but something now is not letting me finish the sync (20 gigs and 1000s of files). I contacted the folder sync dev, he says not much is showing in the logs for his app, but to look at server logs. I downloaded it and I don't see much obvious in there. Can you guys take a look and tell me if I could configure something differently in BSFTP to get past these ridiculously slow processing of files? None of the individual files are especially big and I have a gig wired connection for the BSFTP server machine.

thank you for the log. It shows that the client does some intensive work when synchronizing your folders. There are some delays before next folder is processed. See some delays below after a packet is send back to a client when a folder is closed (this is a confirmation packet that a close folder operation was completed) and when next packet is received from a client to do some other work (opening new folder to process)

Also there is one major issue with the client process. During the synchronization of your folders, the client lists one folder many times. Since it is a folder with more than 10000 files, listing that folder takes about 20 seconds. Your client lists your big folder 149 times in one session! So it takes almost 50 minutes to list it so many times. Listing of a folder happens after each file that is uploaded to the server side.
