If, like me, you only have a passing knowledge of the way a real life motorsport team functions, you'll be thankful for the in-depth tutorial. It leads you through the first couple of races with a great deal of assistance, and teaches the basics of scouting new drivers, handling the egos of the ones you already have on your books, and upgrading both your cars and your headquarters. Essential though it may be for newcomers, the tutorial fluffs its first lines, forcing you to play through an entire race before introducing the planning and preparation that make up most of the game. Denying the player the ability even to balance their car on that first outing dooms them to a somewhat tedious opening ten minutes or so, that has ended in disappointment every time I've tried it.
I was terrible to begin with, even though I started as manager of a team that had low expectations in the lowest tier so as to make the learning curve slightly less tricky to navigate than Paddock Hill Bend. My mistakes usually came on race day, indecisiveness causing me to make pit stops too late or too early as I reacted to the behaviour of the other teams and tried to copy it rather than forming a strategy of my own.
I've tried football manager sims but never a motorsport one. Looks interesting and fairly cheap. Right now I'm playing a lot of V Rally 4 so that's scratching my racing itch for now. Maybe in the future I'll pick this up.
and well, if it wasn't meant to be a hardcore manager game, I am afraid that they totally missed the concept of the genre! MM2 would have been more of the same, hopefully this F1 deal will produce a good and modern management game.
"It's the final few seconds before the lights go out..."Motorsport Manager is to Formula One and other professional motorsports what Football Manager is to football. Developed by Playsport Games and published by Seganote who, incidentally, also published Football Manager, Motorsport Manager tasks you with running your own motorsport team in one of several categories. It's up to you to hire and fire personnel, develop new parts, upgrade your HQ, plan out race strategies, and balance the books, all while keeping your chairman and your drivers happy.
Requiring your managerial skills, MOTORSPORT MANAGER has you provide aid and comfort to your drivers as you help them win races. But this isn't really a story-driven game. While some of the action takes place behind the scenes, it's all centered on you running the team and aiding your drivers during races. You don't have to deal with drivers running into problems off the track or personality conflicts with you or other drivers. Instead, you just have to help your drivers and your team win races and climb the standings.
