Hi all,
The Taipei Hikers group may have seemed very quiet this last few weeks for some of you, simply because most of the group activity is now on our Taipei Hikers Facebook page, which has already proved infinitely more useful than this very inflexible platform; it's been pretty lively so far, and a great success (no spam yet, cross fingers). Among other things, moving to Facebook has meant:
- It's easy and convenient for anyone to post photos or videos from the hikes for everyone to see
- we already have loads of new members (230 plus already)
- We already have a second Hike Leader (thanks Daina) who's already organised a Saturday hike on the new Facebook page
- We can have more than one admin to help keep the group spick and span (thanks again to Daina, our second admin!)
- Members can post (and are posting) questions, useful snippets of info on the page where they can help everyone
- It's (a bit) easier to keep track of everyone who intends to come, as each hike/weekend has its own section
- It's a better place to store useful info - there's already a list of Outdoor Links activities up on the site, and more can be added as needed.
Now I know many have problems with Facebook's privacy policy, which is fair enough, so I intend as best as I can to keep a small Google group going for those who really don't want to be on FB. To get on this though you MUST let me know so I can add your address to the list. (Sorry about the red ink, but I noticed repeatedly in the past that not everyone seems to read the whole email, which has lead to some unpleasant surprises for hikers on a few hikes!)
On the new Google Group list we so far have:
Friedrich
Marc R.
Nick E.
If you want to continue receiving info on hikes and trips please either join the TAIPEI HIKERS group on Facebook or send a quick email asking to be added to this new Google Group. I'll stop using this old Google Group in a week or two, so that those signed onto the Facebook group don't continue to get duplicated info.
Cheers
Richard
