Hi again,
For those without the Technicolor version on FB with all the photos of what we'll be seeing to tempt you to join, here are details of the next three trips coming up (one is already full, I'm afraid):

NEXT HIKE: Sunday, September 29th 7:20 am, Taipei Main Station West 3 Exit

I'm presently working on a long distance route connecting the northeast coast at Jinguashi with Taipei City (all on trails of course), and the last major barrier is the area around Sandiaoling, so this Sunday's goal is to try the long ridge route along those wonderful-looking hills south of the Keelung River between Sandiaoling station and Shifen. I've never done this route before, and although it doesn't look outrageously difficult it could be quite a long hike. This hike is EXPERIENCED hikers please, who can keep up a reasonable pace, as we have a good bit of ground to cover. If the weather goes to Hell in a hand basket again, I'll try and sort out a substitute route further west, where the weather tends to be kinder. Apologies in advance for the early start time, but I want to get down before it gets too late and the crowds at Shifen tying to return to Taipei become completely ridiculous.

Mount Beichatian and Yunei Waterfalls camping trip  (October 19-20) Sorry: FULL

Mount Beichatian (1,727 meters) is famous among hikers in the Taipei area as one of the highest peaks reachable in a day from the city, but it’s just one of several amazing places which we’ll be visiting on this 2-day camping trip (weather permitting!). Below the peak is a grove of ancient red cypress trees over 2,000 years old, from where a rough and adventurous trail runs down to the wonderful Yunei Stream Waterfalls, four in number. The best by far are the top two, especially the beautiful and secluded W…

Chiayi Scooter Trip (November 2-3) (meeting time/place to be decided)

This is the scooter trip postponed from next weekend (September 28th). Scooter trips used to be a regular thing in the group, but apart from once in April this year (when we had to turn back after one morning because of continuous rain) we haven’t done any for a few years now. The emphasis is on exploring the amazing mountain roads (and Chiayi's back mountain roads are pretty spectacular) rather than doing long hikes, but we'll we visiting a few waterfalls and various curiosities en route, and maybe even cl...

Let me know if you're interested in joining any of these trips and I can send more info if needed.

Cheers

Richard
