Hi all,
Thanks to the typhoon, the Matsu trip (which should have started this evening with an overnight ferry ride to the islands) has had to be cancelled. The weather should however improve long before Sunday, so I'd like to try another river trace - possibly the last of the season (at least up here in Northern Taiwan) - on that day.
The destination is the Laomei Stream near Taiwan's northernmost point, which is familiar to many of us for the lovely walk to Laomei Waterfall, although a river tracing trip there by 523 a few weeks ago reminded me that it's also a popular river trace, with several fine deep pools (one called the Pig's Trough) and apparently another fine waterfall en route. Once we reach Laomei Waterfall itself, if there's time we can climb (by a trail round the side) up to the head of the waterfall, where there some lovely deep pools, and possibly even trace a little further upstream.
Laomei Stream can be reached by bus from Danshui followed by an hour's level walk along a back lane, so it's not too hard to reach without our own wheels. As usual, you'll need the correct footwear to join us on this trip, and also preferably experience, or at least confidence in doing this kind of thing.
We meet on Sunday at 8 am sharp at Danshui MRT station, beside the main ticket barrier (NOT the much smaller barrier round to the right). As always please let me know (by email) if you want to come II still haven't replaced my cell phone; will try to get online again before the day (in which case it should be the old number - 0921 252 144), but can't guarantee I'll be reachable by phone on Sunday am, so please don't be late!
See some of you Sunday,
Richard
